About the Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams

The Half-Magic Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams make the following claims:

  • Soft blur effect
  • Whipped, airy texture that never looks or feels dry
  • Nourishing matte coverage

About the Packaging

The Half-Magic Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams packaging is nearly identical to the Chromaddiction Shimmers & Matte Eye Paints. They’re short and rectangular and I like it. The size is perfect for any makeup bag or organizer.

The above photo was taken outdoors in direct sunlight and I was trying to capture the iridescent shimmer of the Half-Magic Beauty Magic Drip Glitter Lip Gloss in Frosty B*tch, which I bought mostly because of the name and partially because I was curious about their gloss formula.

The photo above of the Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams was taken indoors in indirect natural light. The swatches are from left to right: Self Help (true red), Excuse Me Sir (cobalt), Angel Rave (lilac violet), Invoice Attached (neon hot pink), Mr. Chic-y Pants (warm beige), and Frosty B*tch gloss (icy peach with multi-colored reflects).

Magic Drip Glitter Lip Gloss

Spoiler alert, I’m also a fan of the Frosty B*tch Magic Drip Glitter Lip gloss. I love the iridescent sparkles in it and find that the soft peach is flattering on me. It’s not sticky and has a nice slip to it. It only comes out of the container sparingly, so you never have to worry about it gooping on you.

I’m not the biggest fan of gloss, as older formulas used to get all over my face, teeth, and in my hair if the wind blew the wrong way.

The lip glosses I’ve liked the best are the Lime Crime Wet Cherry Lip Gloss, the discontinued Marc Jacobs Beauty glosses, Aromaleigh Lip Glosses, and Silk Naturals Slicker Sticks, which are a gloss/balm hybrid in a tube! I tend to prefer a non-sticky formula that doesn’t slide all over my face.

About the Lipstick Formula

The Half-Magic Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams have a very soft, sort of mousse-gel like feel when applied. I always use a lip pencil first to outline my lips with any lipstick, then I apply my lipstick. It’s comfortable to wear throughout the day.

The soft blurred matte finish is gorgeous and looks great on its own, though I often top my lipsticks with a multichrome eyeshadow from Karla Cosmetics.

This formula is similar to both the Kaleidos Cloud Lab Lip Clays and the Nyx Smooth Whip Matte Lip Creams. However, I find myself reaching for the Half-Magic Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams over all of my other lipsticks in my extensive collection because I adore how comfortable they are on my lips. And the shade Invoice Attached is so stunningly beautiful and bright!

Sadly, they will leave a mark if I kiss Dave on the cheek, unless I blot and powder them to minimize transfer.

How to Prevent Lipstick Transfer

I do find the need to touch up after I eat, and it does transfer to my cup when I’m drinking. Here’s how I mitigate most of the transfer:

  1. outlining my lips with a matching or slightly deeper lip pencil
  2. applying the Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Cream
  3. using a single ply of tissue paper, a translucent loose setting powder, and a fluffy domed brush, lightly put the tissue paper over your lipstick
  4. dust some of the loose setting powder onto your lips

I love how a deep, vivid blue looks with my skin tone and eyes! I outlined my lips with KVD Poe lip pencil, which has been discontinued, so I recommend Nyx Saw a Ghost Pepper or Nyx Jet Set or Half-Magic Watch Me Fly and Try to Stop Me. Then I filled in my entire lips with Half Magic Beauty Excuse Me, Sir Mouth Cloud. Such a stunning shade of blue!

Half-Magic Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams Review

Half-Magic Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams Review and Swatches on fair skin

Initially, I did not have a very good impression of the Half-Magic Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams. I started with Angel Rave (lilac violet) and Mr. Chic-y Pants (warm beige). Angel Rave was way more muted and lighter than I was expecting and Mr. Chic-y Pants is a very unflattering orange on my skin tone.

I decided to give the formula one more try when I ordered Invoice Attached (neon hot pink) and fell in love! This color is perfect, the formula is amazing, and it looks fantastic with my skin tone. That led me to nab Excuse Me Sir (cobalt blue) and Self Help (true red) in the Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams.

Once I found Invoice Attached and fell in love, I saw how well it wore for me. I loved the finish and feel of it on my lips. Edward’s Fantasy (red wine) is on my wish list. I would love to see a black and deep violet in the Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams formula.

This formula is closer to a bullet lipstick than a liquid lipstick in the sense that you will have to touch it up throughout the day, but I find the colors and finish worth it! Invoice Attached and Excuse Me Sir are my favorite shades out of the bunch!

In my experience, Half-Magic Mouth Cloud Soft Matte Lip Creams live up to all 3 of their claims, earning a 5 out of 5 rating from me!

  1. The blue and purple caught my eye! Disappointing that the payoff on the violet/purple wasnt as expected though.

  2. The color payoff is terrific. I love the idea of these though the colors wouldn’t work for me.

  3. I got the blue one to try and I’m actually wearing it for the first time today! I love how comfortable it is and I love the color but it isn’t the longest wearing when I try to eat or drink, even though I’m being very careful. I have used the powder trick to set lipsticks before but it’s a little labor intensive for me to deal with doing that while out of the house. But I’ll put up with re-applying because the color is so great, and the formula is comfortable. I have a blue Vampyre Cosmetics lipstick that I love the shade of but I never wear it because it’s painfully dry.

    1. I’m so glad you love Excuse Me Sir! It’s so stunning! I hope I properly conveyed in my review that it’s more like a traditional bullet lipstick than a dry down liquid lipstick. I love how it feels on the lips.

I’m so sorry to hear that you didn’t like Vampyre Cosmetics lipstick. Their formula isn’t drying for me, but it’s not as comfortable as Sugarpill or Black Moon, in my experience.
