How to Dye Hair Extensions

How to Dye Hair Extensions featuring Irresistible Me

Hello, beautiful creatures! Today I’m talking about how to dye hair extensions featuring Irresistible Me. If you’re new to this blog, you’ll be happy to know that I love rainbow hair and I’m savvy about the different ways you can achieve rainbow hair. I’ll be sharing top questions and answers surrounding Irresistible Me and hair extensions.

Sometimes you work somewhere that your worth is based on the merit of your work and they don’t have ridiculous dress codes regarding tattoos, piercings, and hair color. But for those of you who work somewhere with outdated rules, if you’re looking to add some fun color to your hair, I recommend checking out hair extensions.

Thanks to Irresistible Me for sponsoring this article.

About Irresistible Me

Irresistible Me is a hair extension brand that launched in 2012. They make playful, easy to use quality hair products for everybody. If you don’t know where to get started, you can try their recommendation quiz or message them directly.

About my hair

Cordelia's natural color treated hair is stick straight

I’m 45 years old and my long hair currently touches my hip bones. My color is black and Manic Panic Pink Warrior mixed with Pravana Magenta that colormelts into Pravana Violet at the tips. I’m planning to stick with the neon pink and black mix for the foreseeable future. I wear Pink Warrior in honor of my double mastectomy that I had earlier this year. My hair is stick straight and stubborn, it’s often difficult to get it to hold a curl.

Why do you like extensions?

I love clip-in extensions to add extra volume and color to my hair, which is why I thought it would be fun to create a guide on how to dye hair extensions. In the past I used tape-in extensions to add length to my hair.

If I worked at a job where I couldn’t dye my hair fun rainbow colors, I would absolutely want to buy volume clip-in extensions and dye them a rainbow of colors to wear when I wasn’t at work.

Irresistible Me sent me their 24″ Front Lace human wig in platinum blonde to try out in addition to their clip-in volumizer. I’ve been waiting for the next moment that Mickey and I can find together to play with makeup, as he’s had a look he’s wanted to do on a blonde version of me. This wig is perfect for that moment!

The Irresistible Me 24″ Front Lace human wig is the only platinum blonde wig in my wig collection. Because it is human hair, it can be dyed, just like the extensions.

This wig retails for $799 and it’s currently on sale for $449.90.

Irresistible Me Clip-in Volumizer

Irresistible Me Clip-in Volumizer

The Irresistible Me Clip-in Volumizer comes with one single volumizer weft with four clips and a tester piece. It’s perfect for adding volume to thin hair. The tester piece is helpful so that you can dye it first and see the results before you do the entire weft of hair.

This style of volume clip-in extensions is perfect for creating a rainbow. You can easily dye this red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple, or your favorite color.

The clip-in volumizer retails for $269 but it’s currently on sale right now for $169.90. If you join the Irresistible Me VIP club, that price drops even more, to $134.50.

What types of hair extensions does Irresistible Me offer?

Irresistible Me offers quite a variety of hair extensions that includes clip-in, tape-in, ponytail extensions, wigs, and other accessories. I’ll be featuring the volume clip-in extensions and blonde wig I was sent.

Is the hair used in Irresistible Me extensions real human hair?

Irresistible Me clip-in volumizer platinum blonde (#60)

Yes, Irresistible Me uses real human hair for their hair extensions. It’s Remy hair, which is the highest grade of human hair available for purchase. Remy hair is longer lasting, has gorgeous shine, and is easier to style and maintain than synthetic hair. While I do have some lace front synthetic wigs, my preference is for Remy hair whenever possible.

What is the return/exchange policy?

At the time of me writing this article, the Irresistible Me exchanges and returns policy is pretty generous. Exchanges and Returns are free for US customers, but international customers will have to cover the cost of shipping fees of their exchange or return. Irresistible Me states that there is NO restocking fee or charge to return your product, and they will fully refund you. You must contact them within 30 days.

Do they ship internationally?

Yes, Irresistible Me ships to countries around the world. In addition to the USA and Canada, they also ship to Australia, Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong SAR, Hungary, Iceland, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Mexico, Paraguay, Peru, and Uruguay.

Are Irresistible Me extensions easy to put in and take out?

Yes, Irresistible Me clip-in hair extensions are designed to be easy to put in your hair as well as to take out of your hair. I recommend using a comb to part the hair properly above where you will install the extensions, then clipping in your extensions, and then laying the hair down on top of them. You can also tease your hair at the roots to add volume to help hide the wefts.

How do I choose the right color and length?

How to Dye Hair Extensions - Choosing the Right Length of Irresistible Me Clip-in Volumizer

How do you choose the right color and length? It depends on the look you’re going for. If you want to match your current hair, you need to choose the color and length of extensions that are closest to your own.

I have very long hair, so I chose the longest clip-in volumizer in stock when I was contacted for this collaboration, the 24″. They also have a 28″ available, which is longer.

The 24″ length is ideal for my hair as it is a bit longer than my current length when applied around the base of the skull. When I hold the weft up to the crown of my head by my roots you can see it’s around the same length as my own hair.

I selected the color #60 Platinum Blonde because I knew I was going to dye the clip-in-volumizer to match my hair. It’s easiest to dye to match your hair if you choose the lightest level of blonde available. And yes, my hair is multiple colors, but I want to dye the extensions to be Pink Warrior, since it’s a beautiful, bright neon pink. I highly recommend choosing #60 Platinum Blonde to dye for hair extensions.

If you don’t know what to order, you can also reach out to Irresistible Me’s customer service for help in selecting the right color and style.

Can I style Irresistible Me hair extensions?

Yes, you can style Irresistible Me hair extensions. However, you need to treat your Irresistible Me hair extensions like fragile, color treated hair.

You must always use heat protectant on your hair and the extensions before you heat style them. Heat will damage them. Do not heat style above 320F/160C.

Don’t bleach your hair extensions, as they’ve already been lightened. If you try to lighten them again, it can compromise the integrity of the hair and cause them to break. I recommend using alcohol free hair products if possible.

When I brush my extensions, I always start at the ends and carefully work my way up to the roots. I wash my extensions in my favorite moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I always recommend using sulfate free shampoos and conditioners.

When I heat style my extensions, I put them in my hair first. I make sure I’m happy with their placement and that I’ll be comfortable wearing them out for hours. Then I use my favorite curling iron or deep waver.

How do I care for my Irresistible Me extensions?

I highly recommend that you keep the bag that the extensions are sent in for storage. That will let you keep your extensions in a safe container when you’re not wearing them. Use sulfate free and alcohol free hair products whenever possible. This is to help protect the integrity of the hair. Brush your extensions carefully to avoid damaging the hair wefts.

Avoid sleeping in your extensions. Much like it’s a bad idea to sleep in makeup, it’s a really bad idea to sleep in false lashes and hair extensions. You can damage your own lashes and hair by sleeping in them.

With proper care, hair extensions can last anywhere from six months to a year. It depends on how frequently you wear them, the products you use on them, and how you treat them.

How to Dye Hair Extensions

Prep the Work Area Beforehand

Before you begin, make sure you put down protective coverings on your work area. Wear clothing that you don’t mind if you spill dye on it. You don’t want to get dye on your countertops or clothing. Make sure you have gloves and a tint brush for easier application.

Work from Roots to Tips

Cordelia demonstrates applying hair dye to hair extensions

I like to put my clip-in volumizer on aluminum foil and use the tint brush to apply my Manic Panic Pink Warrior hair dye. The clip-in volumizer is very thick, so I found that the best way to ensure thorough application of color was to lift up around one third of the hair and saturate it with color, then lay the hair down and saturate the next one third.

Cordelia makes sure to thoroughly saturate the hair with dye

I also used my hands to rub and distribute the color around because I wanted to make sure the hair was fully saturated. Two bottles of Manic Panic Pink Warrior were used to dye the clip-in volumizer. It’s an extremely full weft of hair and it’s thirsty!

After the hair dye was applied to all of the clip-in volumizer, I covered it and left it overnight. If you don’t want to wait overnight like I did, you can wait two hours and then do the next step.

Rinse the Hair Dye Out

Rinse the hair dye out of the extensions

Next, I rinsed out the hair dye from the clip-in volumizer. Then I used my favorite moisturizing shampoo and conditioner on the extensions. I let them air dry.

Dry the Extensions

Once the clip-in volumizer was dry, I took it outside for a quick color comparison. The purple tones are way more evident in the lower half of my hair.

The hair extensions have some natural wave to them, unlike my hair. However, that will make them easier to style!

You can see how vivid my Irresistible Me clip-in volumizer turned out! Using high-quality platinum blonde clip-ins as the base gives me vibrant results. I hope you find this guide on how to dye hair extensions quick and easy to follow.

Here are the easy steps to follow on how to dye hair extensions:

  1. Prep the area and yourself so that you’re protected from hair dye
  2. Put down aluminum foil and apply the dye from roots to tips
  3. Saturate the hair fully with dye
  4. Leave it for 2-4 hours or overnight
  5. Rinse the hair dye out with cool water
  6.  Use your favorite sulfate free shampoo and conditioner on it
  7. Dry the hair. Let it air dry or use a heat protectant if you’re going to blow dry

Section your hair up around the level of your ears, around the base of your skull, and pull that hair up and out of your way. I like to use a comb to create a clean line. Then you clip the four clips of the clip-in volumizer on the hair to your skull. I prefer to clip the center two clips first and then do the outer clips. Then flip that top section of hair back down and you’re ready to heat style.

Heat Styled Hair

I heat styled my hair with the clip-in volumizer in the photo above. You can see how my hair is stubborn and struggles to hold the waves, while the extensions look perfectly waved.

  4. First of all, you look absolutely stunning in that platinum blonde wig. Second, I have the same hair type as you, pin-straight, stuggles to hold a curl, even with tons of hairspray. I’m definitely going to have to check out these volumizers, because I have very thin, fine hair, and they would make my hair look SO much better without me trying to struggle with curling irons and hair product and all of that nonsense. 1. Oh my, thank you so much! I was told that I never suited blonde hair, but I find this wig beautiful. If you have thin hair, that volumizer will be amazing for you! I thought I had thin hair for years but once I fixed my diet to include healthy fats (avocadoes, olive oil, macadamia nuts) my hair filled out and became fuller. The thick volumizer weft will be a breeze for you to add volume to your hair. And you can dye it exactly the color you need! I’m so happy you find this helpful! I hope you have an amazing Halloween!

  5. I miss my long hair so much. It’s just below my shoulders now but I used to have it as long as yours. These extensions would bring my long hair dream come true.
