Urban Decay Basquiat Gold Griot Palette
The Urban Decay Basquiat Gold Griot Palette was a surprise hit for me. It’s an edit of the best neutral shades with an awesome mix of mattes and shimmer. It has grey, deep navy, terra cotta, brown, bronze, gold, and peach. It makes my blue-green eyes look amazing. It’s limited edition and on sale right now, so it will be gone soon! Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette
The Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette is one of the most versatile neutral eyeshadow palettes available. If you have hooded eyes, it will be your best friend. You can create office friendly daytime looks as well as sultry smoky eyes for the night. See my Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics Palette review.

Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette
The Urban Decay Naked Heat Palette is made up of peach, copper, orange, terra cotta and brown tones. These colors make blue, green and blue-green eyes pop. If you’re neutral to warm toned and love these hues, you’ll adore this palette. See my Urban Decay Naked Heat First Impressions.

Urban Decay Naked Palette
The original Urban Decay Naked Palette is the palette that started it all. Everyone knows about this palette. The colors tend to be best suited for warm skintones.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette
The Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette is filled with cooler-toned shades than the original. It looks great on cooler skintones.

Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette
The Urban Decay Naked 3 Palette is filled with rosy pink neutrals. UD says it looks great on warm, neutral and cool skintones. I think it also makes blue-green eyes pop. See my Naked 3 review.

Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette
The Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette makes it easy to create a smoky eye with its mix of cool and warm shades. See my Naked Smoky review.

BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Deluxe Palette
The BH Cosmetics Carli Bybel Deluxe Palette is an affordable neutral palette. It has peaches, pinky plums, browns, golden bronzes, and highlights. See my BH Carli Bybel Deluxe Palette review.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Palette
The Kat Von D Shade + Light Palette is another all-matte palette made up of neutral, warm and cool quads. You can create countless looks with this palette. See my Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Palette review.

Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Quads
The Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Quads are great little palettes. Each quad has a different color story – Plum, Smoke, Rust, and Sage. Plum is for green eyes, Sage is for brown eyes, Rust is for blue eyes and Smoke is for all eye colors. See my Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Quads review.

Stila Eyes are the Window Mind Palette
The Stila Eyes are the Window Shadow Palette – Mind – has a mix of 12 mattes with shades that are both cool and warm toned. They’ll help you create the perfect, understated neutral look.

Tarte Tarteist PRO Amazonian Clay Palette
The Tarte Tarteist PRO Amazonian Clay Palette is a huge palette that has 16 mattes and 4 shimmer shades. It’s the most colorful palette that I’ve ever seen tarte create. Despite that, the palette gives you the flexibility to create perfect work-safe looks as well as fun night-on-the-town looks. See my Tarte Tarteist Pro Palette review.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance Palette
The Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance was a huge hit last year and it shows no signs of slowing down. It’s the perfect mix of neutrals with pops of red for those wanting to dip their toes into color. See my Anastasia Modern Renaissance Palette review.

Indie Neutral Palettes

Makeup Geek MannyMUA Palette
The Makeup Geek MannyMUA palette is an excellent set of neutrals with a twist. Mars, a deep cherry red matte and Insomnia, a warm reddish brown with blue shift, make it a very exciting palette. It also has rose gold, terra cotta, peach, champagne and brown shades that are on trend even now. Makeup Geek has very few of these palettes left. See my Makeup Geek MannyMua Palette review.

Saucebox Etude Palette
The Saucebox Etude Palette is a favorite among many of my makeup artist friends for its mix of cool and warm tones. It’s also an amazing value for the size. See my Saucebox Etude Palette review.

Lunatick Cosmetic Labs Contour Palettes
While the Lunatick Cosmetic Labs Contour Palettes say they’re for contouring, they’re truly multi-purpose. You can use them for eyes, cheeks and brows. See my Lunatick Cosmetic Labs Contour Palette review.

Drugstore Neutral Palettes

Flower Beauty Cool Natural Palette
It’s rare to find a truly cool-toned palette but this one is great. They also make a Warm Natural, Golden Natural, and Intense Natural. Cool Natural has pinks, peaches, plums and a deep navy.

Nyx Ultimate Shadow Palette
The Nyx Ultimate Shadow Palettes are supposed to be great palettes. They have a cool neutral and warm neutral version. The warm neutral is very orange and brown while the cool neutral has more pink and cool brown tones.

Luxury Neutral Palettes

Viseart Eyeshadow Palettes
For those who love luxury palettes, the Viseart Neutral Matte, Cool Matte or Warm Neutral Matte might be a great option.

  1. I’m preparing for a move next week and that means packing up the vast majority of my makeup. Eye shadow-wise, I’ve reserved my UD Naked palettes (1, 3 and Smoky) for the coming days, because they’re just so versatile, and I still have stuff I need to do outside the home, where it would help to look decent. Absolutely agree with you that these are top of the line when it comes to neutrals.

  2. I was so surprised by UD Gold Griot. It’s an excellent neutral palette. It really has everything I need for a daily look all in one place + great quality.

  3. My favourite neutral palettes are Naked 1 and 2. The orangey -red shades that a lot of brands are bringing out now are not really suited to my colouring, but they look lovely on others.
Natio, a cruelty free brand in Australia, has a beautiful neutral set called “Golden” and that is divine as well.

  4. Great points, as always–thank you!

Is there any way you could do a post on making eyes pop behind glasses? I can’t wear contacts, and I love to highlight my eyes the most… but I’m not very good at it. :p

  5. You have some great picks here. I’m really glad you put UD x Basquiat Gold Griot on the list. I was completely caught by surprise with how much I ended up loving it.

The Tarte Rainforest of the Sea is another one that surprised me.

I can’t wait to try the UD Naked Heat.

  6. I didn’t like the original Naked Palette on my very fair and neutral/cool complexion so I gave it to my mom! I actually LOVE theBalms meet matte palettes for a nude option. Very versatile and great quality. I also like the UD Gwen Stefani palette for a simple look.

  7. I always appreciate how thorough and honest you are! You make such beautiful eye looks and also some great points on makeup products. I think I will pick up the Modern Renaissance palette soon.
