Lunatick Cosmetic Labs Multipurpose Contour Palette Review Swatches Looks

I swatched this palette with the left half on eyeshadow primer and the right half on bare skin. I used Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I used my finger to swatch, rather than a makeup brush. Using a finger seems to make for a much more even application of color, regardless of primer. Below I’ve included my thoughts for how to use the colors, but don’t let my suggestions limit you!

Lunatick Cosmetic Labs Contour Palette Swatches Review

1 White
Semi sheer white matte (I expected this to be sheer). This can work as a base shade for eyeshadow or a highlighter shade around the face.

2 Light Grey
Semi sheer light grey matte (ok pigmentation, I wish this was more pigmented). This can work as a lid shade for eyeshadow or a highlight shade on the face.

3 Dark Grey
Dark grey matte (excellent pigmentation). This can work as a contour or an  eyeshadow. It could also be used to fill in brows. I have to use a very light hand with this as a contour shade.

First and foremost, the packaging is awesome. I love that has a creepy Necronomicon feel to it. Plus, it’s purple. You know I love purple.

So let’s talk about size. The pans in this palette are huge. Each one is the size of a Sugarpill or Saucebox eyeshadow. Each pan holds 4 grams / 1.7 oz of product (compared to 3.5 grams / .12 oz for Sugarpill). Yes, these are REALLY BIG! You can pop these pans in and out easily, so you could swap them into a custom palette or a Sugarpill or Saucebox palette if you were so inclined.

This palette breaks down to about each shade costing $6.16. I know many people thought the price of the palette was high, and so did I until I looked at the amount of product you’re getting, the versaility of the product, and the price per pan. To give you an example, the 4 pan Sugarpill palettes break down to $8.5 per shade. The LE Edward Scissorhands is 6 pans and $6 per shade. The Saucebox Etude 8 pan is $6.25 per shade. So after looking at these numbers I feel like the price is in line with the product.

I found that I needed to use a very light hand with 3 Dark Grey and 4 Dark Grey Taupe to use them as contour shades. I would have liked to have seen a lighter grey shade for a contour. 2 Light Grey was too light for a contour on me. So for me personally, it’s easier to use this as an eyeshadow and blush palette, rather than as a cheek contour palette.

I do really appreciate that this product is so versatile. You can use it to highlight and contour the face. You can use it as blush or eyeshadow. You can also use it to fill in brows. So if you are buying this as a multi-purpose palette to use all over the face for contouring, blush, and eyeshadow, I think you’ll be happy with it.

  1. I got this pallet a few months back and now it is my every day go to! I suffer with finding cool toned contour shades as I am way too pale and completely cool to pull off the orangey bronze that I see everywhere. This is definitely the best palette for those of us who are beyond pale. As in i buy the lightest shade that sephora offers and have to add a white base haha.

  2. This is amazing!!! I love that ALL of the colors (including the corals, pinks, etc.) can be used as eyeshadows! *o/* I was hoping for a gray shade that would work well for contouring fair skin too. It would have been something darker than color 2 but much lighter than color 3. I love the multi-purpose possibilities – eyes, brows, cheeks, contour, highlight, wow! It’s great that there is a nice white matte in here too – there are some areas I just have to go matte when highlighting and nothing but white will show up on my fair skin tone. This is such a great palette – it is an investment but ITA that the price is great when you look at size and price per color. I hope I can get this! I think it would work great for me! Thank you so much for the awesome review, swatches, and photos! <333

  3. I fell in love with this palette immediately and I had to have it. So I’ve been using it for a couple weeks now and I started breaking out really bad. I have these nasty pimples I haven’t had in over ten years and I’m devastated that I think it could be this. Anyone else have this problem?

    1. I’m sure you could 🙂 You’re super talented! It has a great mix of shades to use as eyeshadows and blushes, in addition to contouring.

  4. What is that totally gorgeous green you are using on your eyes! It looks amazing.
As for the palette, sorry, no – it’s just not my colours although I appreciate that it would suit many others.

  5. My first thought was “oh another contour palette…” but this is different!! I love that it has unique shades, and the fact you can use them as shadows and blush makes it even better. This looks like a really fun palette to play around with!!

  6. This looks like an amazing palette. I love those bright peachy cheek shades, and it’s nice to see gray-toned contours. Looking at the swatches, I was also thinking like you that there needs to be a shade in between 2 and 3. The packaging is utterly too cool.

    1. Yeah the packaging is amazing, the color choices are pretty good, except for that missing shade. So happy you like it too 🙂

  7. Great packaging and I generally love the shades (those peaches!) but agree a lighter gray contour would be good. Still a beautiful and versatile palette!

  8. I absolutely adore their packaging! I’ve been eyeballing their coffin shaped eyeshadow palettes for some time. i should check to see if you reviewed them at some point.
