Monster High Draculaura Costume

Monster High Draculaura Costume by Cordelia Frost of Phyrra.net

Hello, Hex Squad! Today I’m sharing my Monster High Draculaura Costume with you. I put this Draculaura Cosplay together with pieces that already existed in my wardrobe, plus a few fun extras. I regularly wear black and hot pink, so it wasn’t too much of a stretch to put together an outfit. One of my friends, Mia, is an expert in everything Monster High and has multiple versions of Draculaura, so I ran my costume ideas by her and she made tweaks to make it perfect!

Everything purchased by me except where marked *PR. All opinions my own.

Eyeshadow How-To

Here’s a quick little step-by-step of how I created my eye look for my Monster High Draculaura Costume.

  1. After applying my eyeshadow primer, I used a Sigma E27 brush to apply VE Quantum Prime for Rebellion Base  to my lid and lower lid.
  2. With a small blending brush, I used Blend Bunny Baited Lure Palette to blend out the edges of the pink all over.
  3. I used the doe foot applicator to put VE What We Imagine Multichrome Liquid Pigment on the center of my lids and blended upwards.
  4. I lined my eyes and created a small wing with VE Ankh Stamp n Seal Liner.
  5. Using a small angled brush, I patted Blend Bunny Black Sea Lure Palette on top of the liner.
  6. To brighten the lower waterline I applied Nyx Quartz Queen eyeliner.
  7. I finished my look with Thrive Causemetics Brynn Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara, but you could certainly add cluster lashes for more impact.

Heart

Don’t forget the heart goes below the left eye.

  1. I used Stila Sting Ray Stay All Day Smudge & Set Waterproof Gel Eye Liner to draw the heart.
  2. With a small angled brush, I used  Blend Bunny Black Sea (Lure Palette) to set the heart.

Complexion How-To

I like light to medium coverage complexion products and I love to glow! I layer powder products on top of cream to get a more natural looking effect. Here’s what I did for this Monster High Draculaura Costume.

  1. Auric Morganite Glow Lust Luminizer is what I use as my primer/base to add glow and a tiny bit of coverage. Make sure you let it set for at least 60 seconds after you finish blending. I also applied this on my neck and decolette.
  2. Iconic London Cool Fair Super Smoother Blurring Skin Tint was used as my foundation, first applied with finger tips, then I went back over with a brush to smooth it out. I made sure to  bring this down my neck.
  3. Silk Naturals Nougat Contour Stick was dotted behind my jaw and blended down and under my jawline. I also took it around the edge of my cheekbone and down the sides of my nose.
  4. Persona Bubble Cream Blush Stick was dotted on the outer part of my cheekbone and blended with fingertips.
  5. Danessa Myricks It Girl blush was carefully tapped on with fingertips on top of Bubble.
  6. VE Witch Please contour powder was blended on top of where I put the Nougat contour stick.
  7. Haus Labs Rose Quartz highlighter as blush was added on top of It Girl to add more dimension.
  8. Huda Beauty Pound Cake Easy Bake Loose Baking & Setting Powder was lightly patted all over my face for the blurring effect with the It Brushes Airbrush Tapered Powder Bronzer Brush #150.
  9. Kaleidos Moon Cruiser Highlighter was used strategically around my face in the C shape around my eyes, a tiny bit above the middle of each eyebrow, and the tip of the nose.
  10. I added glow and locked things in with Iconic London Prep-Set-Glow Spray on my face, neck, and decolette.

Lips How-To

Here’s the quick instructions on how I did my lip gradient for my Monster High Draculaura Costume. If you have larger lips than I do the gradient will be more visible on top.

  1. I outlined my lips with Black Moon Sleepwalker Liquid Lipstick and used a small stiff brush to feather the black towards the center of my lips.
  2. Urban Decay Shockwave Glossy Liquid Lipstick was applied to the center of the lips and I used a brush to feather it on top of the black.
  3. I finished the look with VE Innocent gloss for the iridescent effect.

WHAT I’M WEARING

Jewelry Breakdown

I wanted large, you can’t miss it, earrings for my Monster High Draculaura Costume. When trying to determine what would work for a necklace, I decided a spiked choker was classic and would work with many outfits. I adore both and love that they’re handmade. It can be difficult to sift through all the junk on Etsy to find handmade gems, but it is truly worth it! The earrings in specific are great because they’re on a huggy style hoop that’s easy to put in even with my long nails.

I like the Kreepsville 666 Hot Pink Bat Outline Headband design but I don’t find wearing hard headbands like this very comfortable. I might switch this out for my black bat hair clip.

Bag and Shoes

Draculaura is known for having fabulous shoes and handbags, so I knew I really needed to go all out for both of those pieces.

Hot Chocolate has so many cute shoes available, but the Lilith Mary Jane Pumps were my pick because they’ve been on my wishlist for a while and the colors matched my vibes. I love their iridescent pink hue and design. I purchased a size 39, which fits me well. I’m happy to have these shoes now available in my wardrobe for anytime I want to wear them. They look so cute with all my black and pink clothing!

I struggled to find a really cute oversized bat bag, but finally stumbled on the Trickz n’ Treatz Bag Enigma Mega Tote. It’s very cute but made of vegan leather so I don’t know how long it will last.

I prefer to buy things secondhand made from real leather vs. vegan leather since vegan leather tends to disintigrate quickly in my experience. I’d rather purchase something that will last longer than have to rebuy something every two or three years that might end up in a landfill. In the past I was not as mindful about what I purchased, but now I pay more attention because I don’t want to promote overconsumption, fast fashion, or fast furniture, etc. I’m more interested in slow, sustainable, high-quality, eco-friendly products whenever possible. From everything I’ve researched, buying secondhand and thrifting is the most eco-friendly option.

Count Fabulous

No Monster High Draculaura Costume would be complete without Count Fabulous! He’s her serious little bat buddy. I picked mine up secondhand from ebay. I plan to attach a loop to him so that I can make him a handbag charm.

Shopping my Closet

I already own several Sunzel Hot Pink Crop Tops because I wear these shirt as a light everyday bralette and for less intense yoga practice. They look cute under my button down shirts. They’re currently on sale on Amazon.

I have several G4Free Hot Pink Ruffle Yoga Pants because they’re a fun, flirty, more feminine take on yoga or workout pants. I love the ruffles and that they have pockets.

The Hot Topic Black Velvet Coffin Flocked Sheer Button Down Shirt  was a shirt I bought a few years ago from Hot Topic because I loved the black velvet coffin design. Here’s a somewhat similar sheer shirt from Amazon. You can also find my exact shirt used on Poshmark.

Final Thoughts

Hot pink and black era vibes from Cordelia Frost

I love my Monster High Draculaura Costume and being in my hot pink and black era. It’s fun to wear bold hues that work with my Bright Winter seasonal color analysis and help to flatter my skin tone and eyes.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how I put together this costume from items I already owned, plus a few key pieces I purchased. I encourage you to shop your closet to see what you can use to create a costume.
