Kat Von D Shade + Light Glimmer Eye Palette Review

Kat Von D Shade + Light Glimmer Eye Palette Review - See if this neutral palette is a hit or miss for me. Is it a must-have makeup palette for you?

I love that the Kat Von D Shade + Light Glimmer Eye Palette has updated packaging from the original. It feels very sturdy. I dislike that the new palette does not have the names of the colors printed on the inside of the palette. Instead, they’re printed on the back of the palette. I hate having to flip the palette over to look for the names.

I most definitely need to combine the Kat Von D Shade + Light Glimmer Eye Palette with the original Shade + Light palette. I need mattes in my crease because I personally think it looks better on my hooded eyes. I found the super sparkly shades had fallout for me. The shade with the worst fallout was Onyx. For the super sparkly shades, I recommend you use a product like Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy or Too Faced Glitter Glue.

I love Kat Von D Beauty. I think they make a lot of great products, such as their Metal Crush eyeshadows, eyeliner, liquid lipsticks, foundations, and the original Shade + Light Eye palette. They’ve had some mixed products like the Studded Kiss lipsticks, some of which were great and others were patchy. Overall, I love their aesthetic and creativity. I also love that Kat is moving to make everything in her line 100% vegan.

Now, I’m going to share what is probably not a very popular opinion. I understand that the majority of the market share of people who buy makeup want neutral palettes and go crazy over them. That’s why there are so many new neutral palettes released all the time. However, I feel like Kat Von D Beauty is sort of counter culture, and I wish that she would continue to make more palettes like Pastel Goth, Alchemist, and MetalMatte, rather than cater to the neutral lovers. The Kat Von D Shade + Light Glimmer Eye Palette is just not for me. (Oh how I wish Pastel Goth & MetalMatte were permanent for those of you who missed out on those palettes, even though I raved about them!)

If you don’t like neutrals, you’ll want to skip this palette. This is not a palette I would personally buy for myself because 1. I don’t like warm browns (5 out of 12 shades translate to warm brown on my skin), 2. I don’t like all shimmer palettes 3. I’m drowning in neutral palettes.

If you are someone who loves neutrals and wears them day in and day out, you’re going to love the Kat Von D Shade + Light Glimmer Eye Palette. If you’re new to makeup and don’t own a lot of neutral palettes, this would be a good one to start your collection.

  1. Awesome review….i would love to try this palette…thank you for your reviews!!

  2. Your swatches look beautiful, but I’m with everyone who wants COLOR from KVD. I missed out both times on Metal Matte, and that’s my dream palette!

I have enough neutrals that I can pass on this.

  3. If you have one or more of the UD Naked palettes, you have all the neutrals you need. I agree that KvD needs to go their own way. Bringing back Pastel Goth would be awesome because I was unable to get it and oh am I sad!

  4. It’s pretty, but I completely agree with you about it. It’s not something I need. I agree with Alison, we need a Pastel Goth 2 palette.

  5. But your swatches are so gorgeous!! I agree that there are only so many neutral palettes one can own, but this would be great for someone who’s just starting out in makeup. I also think of Kat Von D as not the place I would expect to find a palette like this.

  6. For the reasons you don’t need the palette that’s why I do want it. Other than Onyx which seems to be pure glitter the rest are colors I wear and like. I’m sure I wouldn’t wear every shade in the palette since anything that pulls orange on me is a no but there are enough that would justify it. I love that KatVonD is great for alternative colors but it’s nice that there’s a variety to purchase too.

  7. I just… REALLY don’t need an all-sparkly neutral palette. I can understand colorful ones like the UD Moondust, but I don’t really need any neutral glitter, except maybe the black. If I want to do neutral makeup, it’s generally going to be a matte/satin finish anyway. I get why this was made as a companion palette to the original, but I don’t think most of us who follow the KVD brand are going to really be interested in it because we follow the brand for its unique, edgy style, and (to me) this just isn’t it.

  8. I am in total agreement with you. How many neutral = brown palettes do people need, for goodness sake? I would love to see a second edition of Pastel Goth with a different mix of colors and more shades in the pastel mauve to pink to blue lavender range. How about that?

      1. We should start a petition. I would even buy a backup!

As a side note, I was trying out some earrings and the artist who made them said, “i am sure you don’t wear pale purple eye make-up every day, but these really look great with your purple eye makeup.”

And I said, “Well actually I TRY not to wear pale purple eye makeup every day, and most likely I don’t succeed in NOT wearing it.” LOL.
