Each Deck of Scarlet palette comes with all the products you need for one daytime and one nighttime look – 3 eyeshadows, 2 cheek colors, 2 lip colors, 1 lip pencil, and 1 eye pencil. The palettes are a mix of powder products together with cream ones. Each palette has 8 or 9 full size makeup products that differs with every box.

The palette is black and much like a NARS palette, picks up finger prints and dirt easily. It drives me crazy. The names of the products are not printed on the palette, nor are they printed on the back of the palette. The product names are printed on the paper sleeve that slides off of the palette.
Deck of Scarlet Value
Deck of Scarlet claims that the value of each palette is $150. Here’s how it breaks down:
Eyeshadows $16 / .04 oz each
- Irresistible (peachy brown shimmer)
- Lucky (warm brown satin)
- Loot (warm green shimmer)
Lip Colors $14 / .035 oz each
- Jackpot (peachy beige)
- Flush (red brown)
Powder Blush/Bronzer $20 / .33 oz
- Bluff – light matte bronzer
Cream Blush $20 / .35 oz
- Playtime – pink nude
Eyeliner $17 / .01 oz
- Lust & Chocolate – dark brown matte
Lipliner $17 .01 oz
- Oh So Nude – peachy nude
I personally feel like they’re over-valuing each of the products since they’re made at their labs. They’re putting the pricing almost on par with Urban Decay, which is surprising.
Deck of Scarlet Makeup Palette Swatches
Row 1 – Oh So Nude Lipliner
Row 2 – Flush – Jackpot – Playtime
The lip color formula is very wet, closer to a solid gloss or a gloss lipstick hybrid. It does work well with the lip pencil. The blush is less wet. I’m still not a fan of cream blush.
Now, I personally hate it when palettes mix cream and powder products. You’ll inevitably get kick up from the powder into the cream and that becomes a hot mess. That is my least favorite thing to deal with in a palette. I think it’s far better to include lip crayons or lip pencils, not lipstick in the pan.
L to R – Bluff (finger swatch) – Bluff (brush swatch) – Lucky (finger swatch) – Lucky (brush swatch)
The powder bronzer Bluff is nice for a nude blush or matte bronzer / contour shade. Lucky is just that unfortunate shade of brown that goes super muddy on me.
Row 1 – Lust & Chocolate
Row 2 – Loot (finger swatch) – Loot (brush swatch) – Irresistible (finger swatch) – Irresistible (brush swatch)
Loot is a really gorgeous green. Irresistible is a pretty peachy brown. Lust & Chocolate is a very nice brown liner that is extremely difficult to remove without makeup remover. I think it’s a pretty good liner.
I swatched the eyeshadows on Urban Decay Primer Potion. For the brush swatches I used the Urban Decay Moondust brush.
Deck of Scarlet Makeup Palette Look
For my eyeshadow look I tested out the LA Girl white eyeshadow primer. My eyes have been tearing up because I’m sick, and the primer wasn’t able to hold the eyeshadow in place on me at the outer corner. Because I’m currently sick I found it hard to do makeup at all. I did put on Ardell Demi Wispies since I’m not getting my lash extensions refilled and I wanted to have some lashes.

The first Deck of Scarlet Palette was made in collaboration with Kelly Strack, also known as MakeupBarbie. The products are perfectly suited to her coloring. She chose warm, fresh and natural shades. I do not find the eyeshadows to be flattering shades on me when worn together.
I thought the eyeshadow texture was nice, but I do not find browns fun to work with on my coloring. They go muddy on me far too easily. I tried to create three looks with the eyeshadows, but only have one to share because the others turned to mud.
The eyeliner and lip liner were very long wearing. The lipsticks had good texture and felt lightly hydrating on the lips. The cream blush had a nice consistency and good pigmentation.
The powder blush / bronzer was very easy to work with. I used it on my cheeks to lightly contour and I felt like it was flattering. I also used it as a light matte transitional shade on my eyes.
I felt like the lipsticks, blush and bronzer were flattering on my skintone. I could probably find a way to make each individual eyeshadow color work with other colors outside of the palette, but I could not find a way to make them work together on me.
I’m very excited by the idea of a makeup palette subscription box. That said, I would definitely be choosy over which palettes I would buy, since I find some color combinations easier to work with than others. Brown and green? No thank you. Grey and silver? Yes, I’d do that.
I think the Deck of Scarlet Makeup Subscription Box is clearly a good value for the price of $29.95, even if I don’t think it quite stacks up to the $150 value it claims.

This is an interesting idea but it needs to be better thought out. I never like lip products in a pan and putting creme and powders in the same palette makes me nuts because it never ends well. I lo like the look you did, you made those shadows perform.
Yep, cream and products together never seem to end well.
I love the idea of this! The palette design looks really interesting and I give them major points for protecting the lip products.
I wish they’d split the cover with cream blush and lips on one side and powder on the other.
This looks like a really wearable palette!
I find it hard to wear because of my coloring but I think it would work for fair to medium skin tones.
While I think this looks great on you I don’t think I’d buy this. I don’t like the mix of cream and powder plus I have to reapply my lips and wouldn’t want to have to take the whole palette or find a substitute lip. I love cream blush though so that’s something I’d enjoy.
Thank you Marcia!
I really like your make-up here and I think those shades look great on you . The shade names not being printed on the actual box would drive be crazy. I haven’t heard of this subsription service, seems like it may be worth keeping my eye on it.
It’s a brand new service 🙂 Thank you for the compliments on the makeup.
This is a very pretty neutral palette, and I absolutely LOVE the look that you created! While I love the bright colors that you often wear, I have to say that you can really rock neutrals as well! This seems like a great subscription box!
Oh thank you! I hated all the eyeshadow looks I tried to create with this palette. I felt like none of them were flattering.
