Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoat Lip Swatches

I did all of these lip swatches quickly without a lip pencil, so they’re not as neat as they would normally be. I recommend using a lip pencil when applying lipstick for longer wear.

As I say in the video (and Urban Decay says as well), the Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoats are meant to be layered on top of lipsticks, liquid lipsticks and lip pencils. They’re not meant to be worn on their own. It’s even in their name ‘topcoat.’ If you put these on by themselves, you’ll be disappointed. So don’t do that. Pair them with your favorite lipstick.

Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoat lipsticks feel almost cooling and tingly when you apply them. The sensation is not painful, just unusual. I typically can’t handle anything that burns or tingles on the lips.

I found that it was best to dab these on initially, then spread them out. You can use your finger tip or a brush to help spread them. Once they dry, they won’t budge. You may get a bit of glitter off of shades like Litter, but only if you really rub at it.

I love the Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoat and I think they’ll be tons of fun for lip art. If you’re looking for lip art inspiration check out my friends Mutokki and Lipstickittty.

What do you think of the new Urban Decay Vice Special Effects Lip Topcoat? Will you be using them for lip art?

  1. For nudes, try the following combos:

White lie over twitch (or white lie over pretty much everything!) :).
Fever over backtalk or other pink nude
somebody was saying they would like a Solstice in a lipstick form, Circuit over Roach was close (or maybe close to the eyeshadow Lounge, whatever it’s pretty!
Found the differences between Reverb and Monarch was Monarch has a blue sparkle and Reverb was pinky gold and seems more sparkly. I was thinking from the adds that Monarch was darker, but it’s the sparkle and not the shade of purple. I’m still trying to decide if I like Reverb after getting Monarch with my skin color since Monarch seems to go better with the lipsticks I’ve got. Like it over Pandemonium pencil and wearing it with WSM.

I ordered from Urban decay and expected to send what I didn’t like back, but finding I like pretty much all of them (the only one maybe is Reverb since the color is not always flattering or having trouble mixing the shade with what I’ve got)

  2. These are beautiful! Are they drying at all? Another slightly off-topic question – your eyelid color, My Pretty Zombie Gangrenous, how did you get the color application so light? I love the way the color is on you and we have similar eye color with mine being slightly darker. I went to the site it was so bold/dark and described as a dark blue-green with some lavender hues so I’d love to do it the way you have!

  3. hey Courtney!! thanks so much for the shoutouts on your blog and YouTube <3 means a lot to me and I appreciate it. (sorry it took so long for me to sit down and read+watch, I wanted to give my full attention!)

  4. I absolutely am loving the combos with Bruja , Fever and on you, Monarchy is soooo stunning. I really love the dimensional impact they make. I am a person who is new to it-but ever since I got the Kevyn Aucoin Lip Kits that include the lipstick, pencil and gloss for the ‘3D lip’ it opened me up to it-I’m like you I’m not a gloss person, but this is different, love that it dries down matte. Speaking of Kevyn Aucoin, they have the Molten Lip Colors which are liquid lipsticks, like Vice, but with a Molten effect-and the most recent too are in shades like Litter and White Lie(one has an opalescent blue) But these are soooo amazing. Gorgeous xo

  5. It’s like they made these for you especially since they fit in with your beautiful makeup looks. These colors are just beautiful.

  6. Hi, I believe this is a cruelty free site and Urban Decay is no longer cruelty free.

They were bought by L’Oreal and when I wrote asking if they were still cruelty free, they responded and said that they are unless the country they are selling in requires them to test. Translation: We are cruelty free when it’s convenient, but if it stops us from making money we are no longer cruelty free.

Therefore, they are no longer cruelty free.

    Hope this is helpful. 🙂

    1. Hi, Urban Decay is cruelty free and Leaping Bunny Certified. L’Oreal is their parent company and they are not cruelty free. Please see my Cruelty Free brands list where I explain what cruelty free means to me in detail
      https://phyrra.net/cruelty-free-makeup-brands-list.html

I support companies that are cruelty free even if their parent company is not cruelty free.

      1. Understood on parent companies. But, they wrote to me about Urban Decay. They are selling Urban Decay in China from what their letter said.

I had only asked them about Urban Decay as I’d never use L’Oreal and they responded saying that if the country demands animal testing they comply.

I’m sad. I used to like Urban Decay.

        1. Hi, according to my contact at Urban Decay, this is not true. They’re still Leaping Bunny Certified. They’re not selling in China. They have never sold in China. They state on their website “Urban Decay is a cruelty-free brand and is committed to ending animal testing. We do not test our products on animals, nor do we allow others to test on our behalf. Additionally, we require our suppliers to certify that the raw materials used in the manufacture of our products are not tested on animals. Our Brand is certified by both PETA and The Leaping Bunny Program (CCIC) as cruelty-free.”

  7. These are absolutely GORGEOUS. It’s good to know that they aren’t wear-alone lip glosses, and that they should be worn as toppers! They add such gorgeous dimension to your lipsticks! I need to pick up Fever because it will be perfect with my favorite pink and peach nude lipsticks! Thanks for your beautiful swatches!

    1. It’s even in the name that they’re meant to be toppers with the word topcoat 🙂

    2. Hi,

Thanks so much. I’d be happy to send you the email I received if you’d like to see it? Perhaps forward it to your contact?

If your contact and their website is correct, then this information should not be mailed out to customers!

      Thank you! 🙂
