Urban Decay Heavy Metals Palette

Urban Decay Heavy Metals Palette - I've got my Urban Decay Heavy Metals Palette review, Afterdark comparison, makeup tutorial and video to share with you today!

Urban Decay Heavy Metals Palette

Today I’m excited to be sharing the Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette with you. I’ve got a review, swatches and demo of the Heavy Metals palette. I also did comparison swatches between the Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette and the Uban Decay Afterdark Palette. The Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette is a limited edition palette for Holiday 2017. I’m grateful that Urban Decay waited until October to release their Holiday collection. Too often I feel like I’m reviewing Christmas in July!

PR sample.

Urban Decay Heavy Metals Palette Review and Afterdark Comparison

The Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette was a pain to photograph. The packaging shows fingerpints like crazy. I’m not a fan of the design. I dislike the mirror in the middle. It’s just awkward and I don’t see how you can easily use it. Urban Decay says this palette was inspired by modern art. And while I like the purple outer case and the wave design, I dislike that it’s so easy to get dirty.

Urban Decay Says
Urban Decay has developed a whole new formula—bumping up the foiled effect to create their most metallic shadows ever. The formula was carefully crafted to make sure every shade has a velvety feel for the perfect application, provides insane color payout and shiny metallic effects, and blends like a dream.

I’d say this is true! I found the shades very easy to work with. They had great pigmentation. I am _here_ for this finish! It’s so gorgeous. I had no issues with blending or application. I think these eyeshadows work best if you use them damp or with a sticky primer.

I also need to mention that I really liked the color names. It’s cute that Urban Decay stuck with the music theme. I don’t think there’s a single color name in the Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette for someone to side eye.

I love the purple look I created with the Urban Decay Heavy Metals palette purples Spandex and Metalhead. It was so easy to build up the color on my lid and blend it out in the crease. I used UD Laced as my transition color. Angel Fire is an amzing inner corner highlight. It captures the light, almost the way a Moondust eyeshadow does. It’s beautiful!

With this palette, I was immediately drawn to the fact that it’s really easy to think up color combinations with it. I can see myself using Laced with Punk Rock, Metalhead, Spandex, Angel Fire and Scream. I could easily use Tease with Glory, Starfire, Afterparty, Bass, Demo, Roadie, Acoustic, Maiden, Twisted or Mullet. I can use Desperation with Ground, Dive, Amp, Glamrock and Aluminum.

Urban Decay Heavy Metals Palette vs. Afterdark Palette

Row 2 – Lounge – Backfire – Off Duty – Supersonic – Sinful – Paralyzed – Druggie – Fringe

The Urban Decay Afterdark palette has similar but not exact dupes for the Heavy Metals palette. If you’re a teal and purple fan, I think you’ll love the ones in the Heavy Metals palette. Between the two, if you already own Afterdark, you may want to skip Heavy Metals. It just depends how many of the colors you think you’ll use. I will probably never use Bass, Demo and Roadie.

Urban Decay Heavy Metals Palette Video

I hope you enjoyed my review and comparison in the video, as well as the makeup tutorial at the end!

Overall, I love the eyeshadows in this palette (except the browns). I dislike the packaging, just not to my taste with the weird layout. But it’s totally worth overlooking the packaging for the beautiful eyeshadow formula and colors.

The Urban Decay Heavy Metals Palette is available now at Sephora. Will you be picking it up? What do you think of it?

  1. WOW this and the Coloured Raine look that you did are two of my faves that you’ve created! At first glance you really can’t tell how pigmented it is, and the quality of the pigments/saturation etc, but when I saw the swatches, and when I see it on you I’m wowed-that gorgeous rich deep amethyst smoky that you created is beyond! I am going to skip it right now because of the ND palettes I’ve bought, but you’ve given me such gorgeous inspiration(especially for LILA) It really is beautiful, I may get it as a gift for my dear friend though….:)

  2. I am currently listing after this palette I thought the palette mirror might get dirty as well I have 3 kids including a son with autism so Mom life I have to wait but omg your swatched just made never want it more lol thanks!

  3. There are a lot of colors to choose from in this palette. I love most of them but probably wouldn’t wear them. I love the colors on your eyes. So pretty!

  4. Thank you for doing the comparison swatches with the Afterdark palette. The colors are similar enough for me so I can skip this one. No FOMO here.

  5. Thanks for such a thorough review. It’s nice to know if the shadows are powdery or don’t show up as pigmented after application.

  6. I just got done watching the review. This is such a beautiful palette! Thanks for getting a review up so quickly.

  7. The shades looks beautiful but you are right about the packaging. Not a fan of it either.
