You know Halloween is my all-time favorite holiday. I even got married on Halloween! Halloween is a favorite holiday for many kids, too. Not only do they get to play dress-up and pretend to be one of their favorite characters, but they also get to go door to door asking for candy. One of the best ways to celebrate the holiday with your family is to enjoy a Halloween movie marathon. Check out this list of Halloween movies kids of any age will love and start planning your Halloween celebrations today.

Hocus Pocus

When a pair of unknowing siblings conjure the spirits of three silly witches from 17th-century Salem, they must work together to save all the children in the town before the witches eat them in Hocus Pocus. With a talking cat and some dancing zombies, this classic Disney romp is the perfect Halloween movie for children of any age. It’s quite possibly my favorite Halloween Movie ever!

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Combining two beloved holidays for children, Halloween and Christmas, The Nightmare Before Christmas tells the story of Jack Skellington the pumpkin king of Halloweentown. When Jack becomes bored of scaring children each Halloween he stumbles upon Christmastown and decides to kidnap Santa Claus and take the holiday for himself. This creepy animated classic from Tim Burton is a wonderful option for families looking for a new take on the traditional Halloween film. This is Ray’s all-time favorite Christmas AND Halloween movie!

Goosebumps

When Zach accidently sets the characters from the popular Goosebumps book series free on his town, he must work together with author R.L. Stine to save the town and return the beasts back to the pages of their books. The scary scenes of ghosts and monsters are softened by Jack Black’s goofy brand of humor in this family-friendly Halloween flick. Ray, Dave and I really enjoyed watching this one!

Hotel Transylvania

Hotel Transylvania is one of the cutest Halloween Movies kids and adults can enjoy together. Dracula (Adam Sandler) runs Hotel Transylvania, a lavish five-stake resort, where monsters and their families live it up, but no humans are allowed. So of course, a human stumbles into the hotel and runs into Dracula’s daughter, Mavis.

Toy Story of Terror

Join the cast of toys from Toy Story as they go on a spooky adventure at a roadside hotel in Toy Story of Terror. When Mr. Potato Head mysteriously goes missing, the toys must band together to escape the evil hotel manager before Bonnie and her mother check out. Toy Story fans of any age will love this spooky tale of friendship and determination.

 The Haunted Mansion

In this film based on the popular Disneyworld ride, a workaholic real estate agent brings his family on vacation only to stop on a work errand along the way at a mansion he is tasked with selling. During their stay, the family must assist the butler and servants in breaking a curse on The Haunted Mansion. Your kids will love the fun special effects and silly comedy provided by Eddie Murphy.

Casper

When a paranormal specialist and his daughter arrive at a haunted mansion in Maine, they find a couple of troublemaking ghosts, along with a friendly surprise – Casper. The nice apparition quickly falls in love with the young girl in this story of acceptance and friendship.

Monster House

Kids of any age will enjoy Monster House – it’s a cute animated Halloween adventure. When a group of kids believes a house in their neighborhood is actually a living, breathing monster, no one believes them. They must work together to destroy the home before Halloween approaches to save all the neighborhood trick-or-treaters.

It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

This classic cartoon is a must for any list of Halloween movies for kids. Follow Charlie Brown and his pal Linus as they wait for the great pumpkin to make its appearance, while all the other children enjoy traditional Halloween fun like a party and trick or treating. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will take you back to your own childhood memories of Halloween, making it a great choice to create new Halloween traditions with your own family.

Halloweentown

When a young girl follows her grandmother home to Halloweentown, she finds out she comes from a family of witches. The creepy town is the only place where supernatural people can lead a normal life, but when an evil being threatens to take of the world, Marnie and her family must conjure their power and fight to save the town. This fun Disney Channel film is full of laugh out loud moments and a few scares along the way.

Monsters, Inc.

Not all Halloween movies need to be scary. Sometimes, you just need a couple of monsters to make a movie perfect for the holiday. Monster’s Inc. fits this bill. The movie follows monsters Sully and Mike as the try to get a real girl safely out of the monster world and back to her own bedroom. Along the way, the monsters learn that they don’t need to be scary to make their world a better place.

ParaNorman

ParaNorman follows a kid who can speak with the dead, a talent he actually enjoys. But when Norman finds out that an old witch’s curse on his town is about to come true, he sets out to stop the zombie apocalypse by using his paranormal gift. As an animated comedy thriller, ParaNorman is a great choice for Halloween because it offers tons of family-friendly scares with some silly moments along the way.

Spookley the Square Pumpkin

An adorable tale of bullying and friendship, Spookley the Square Pumpkin is a fun Halloween story about the challenges of being different. In this animated feature, Spookley works to overcome his feelings of inadequacy with the help of his friends, the scarecrow and spider. With a story that’s more sweet than scary, this film is a great choice for a younger audience looking for a cute Halloween movie.

E.T. the Extra Terrestrial

E.T. the Extra Terrestrial is one of the classic Halloween movies kids love. It has a sweet story about friendship across galaxies. When Elliott is on his way home one evening, he stumbles upon a friendly alien who is stranded on Earth. He takes the extra terrestrial home and introduces him to his brother and sister, who work together to keep its existence a secret.   1. What about “Coraline”? While it may be a little intense for children under 9, I think it’s a really outstanding work of animation.
