Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadows Review and Swatches

New Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadows Review, Swatches and Looks

Urban Decay has recently released a new type of eyeshadow called Moondust Eyeshadows. There are currently 7 colors in the Moondust collection:  Moonspoon, Diamond Dog, Intergalactic, Space Cowboy, Glitter Rock, Zodiac, & Stargazer

What Urban Decay Says
These dazzling eyshadows have a super-refined and incredibly sophisticated feel. Instead of chunky glitter, there are microfine bits of iridescent sparkles paired with intense hues and lush 3-D metallics. Moondust has a luxe, upscale vibe and a gorgeous, diamond-like effect that can’t be beat. We recommend you apply these eyeshadows with your fingers. For extra intenes payout, try them wet.

Price & Availability
$20 from Sephora, Sephora.com, Ulta, Ulta.com, Macy’s, macys.com, beauty.com and UrbanDecay.com. Urban Decay is cruelty-free.

I applied all of these eyeshadows with Jesse’s Girl Eyeshadow transformer, using the wide brush side and the thin brush side. I wanted to try and capture the multi-dimensional nature of the eyeshadows, as well as apply them the way I would wear them, which is why I applied them wet. I will typically only wear sparkly shades like this wet, with a mixing medium, with Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy, etc because I want to get the most color payoff and sparkle from the formula with the least amount of fallout.

To me, Space Cowboy is a slightly-peach toned beige champagne. I really like this shade. I absolutely loved the old Space Cowboy. Diamond Dog is a deep brown sparkly shade. Glitter Rock is a shade I didn’t expect to like but it’s so pretty! I will be doing a look with it all on its own because it’s so pretty. I definitely feel like it’s got extra depth and dimension going on.

Stargazer is a gorgeous duochrome that looks like it as a gold base with lime green shift. Moonspoon is a gunmetal grey with silver sparkles. Zodiac is the star of the show. It’s got a black base with blue and green sparkles.

I had Atmosphere, Retrograde and Space Cowboy in the Stardust eyeshadows. I did assume that the Moondust were based on the old Stardust, which were prone to fallout. However, I could and did wear the Stardust, I just prepped properly to wear them.

After applying primer, I immediately used Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy on my lids and waited for my lid to get tacky, then gingerly patted the Moondust eyeshadows onto my lid. I had minimal fallout, which was surprising. I didn’t experience fallout during the 6 hours I wore the eyeshadows. They came off easily with my makeup remover, but it did take a bit to get all the glitter off my face.

If you’re only going to get one of these, get Zodiac. It’s seriously gorgeous. Wear it on its own, wear it on a black primer, wear it wet, I think you’ll love it. I think you’ll get best results with a sticky base or a sticky black base. However, a close second would be Glitter Rock, followed by Stargazer. I really like Space Cowboy (I know, I know, a neutral??), but it can be nice for a pop of light at the inner corner. The only color I’m really not crazy about it is Diamond Dog. It’s just not my sort of color. Moonspoon is nice. I always like greys with my eye color.

  1. I love Diamond Dog and Space Cowboy! These shadows are all gorgeous! And now with Sephora’s sale for 15% off everything, I’m going to pick up a few of these!

  2. Oh i love these! Have always been a fan or urban decay and their eyeshadows are amazing. I love love the Zodiac! I think it would compliment any eye color!

  3. I want Zodiac so bad!  It’s the most stunning thing I’ve seen all year!  Space Cowboy is also really nice.

  4. I got to play with these the other day!  I agree with you about Zodiac, it was my favorite too.  But the glitter-holic in me wants to smear every shade all over my face.

  5. Thanks for the review!! I was looking at UD’s site just now trying to figure out which I was going to get 🙂

  6. Is space cowboy in the Stardust formula similar to the moondust formula? I mean are the glitter particles distinguishable? I’m a little confused with all the cowboys Urban Decay has but I really like the space cowboy shade I’m pretty sure there are other cowboys can’t decide which to choose. I like dewy “wet” look from these they look very flattering
