Best Cruelty Free Mascaras

It’s time for another Beauty Top Tens! This time I’m sharing my Top 10 Best Cruelty Free Mascaras. I’ve rounded up 10 of the best cruelty free mascaras for you to to check out. So if you’re looking for a new mascara, I’ve got one for you!

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

1. Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara – $23
This is my hands down favorite mascara right now. I’m on my third tube since it came out. It’s amazing for my lashes. I apply it using a metal lash comb so that I don’t get clumps. The formula is seriously volumizing and long wearing. See my review. If you’re not prone to clumpy lashes like I can, you can achieve some really amazing results in two or three coats. I’m happy with what I can do in one coat!

I love the formula and brush on this mascara. The bristles are made in such a way that you can use the tip to get your inner lashes.

3.  Tarte Lights, Camera, Flashes Statement Mascara – $23
I got this mascara in my Tarte Stop & Stare Kit and really like it! It’s ultra black and lengthens my lashes. It’s also supposed to curl lashes. It doesn’t flake or smudge off. The brush is really cool. One side is short and dense and the other is longer.

    1. Hi! Urban Decay is cruelty free AND Leaping Bunny certified. Please see my ‘Cruelty Free List’ which gives you my break down on brands that are cruelty free and are not cruelty free. Thanks!

      1. I tried to provide a link in my earlier comment that shows the ingredient list — It contains beeswax and stearic acid.

As of a couple years ago, only selected UD items are vegan. Maybe they’ve changed the formula since your original posting?

This is an extremely helpful article though, by the way. I’ve been vegan for 15 years and still haven’t found a mascara brand I love. I’ll be buying several of these to try out. Thank you!

        1. Hi! Urban Decay still has a vegan section on their website. However, one thing that happens with with big brands is that sometimes an ingredient will go non-vegan and a previously vegan item will become non-vegan.

Also, cruelty free and vegan are different. Vegan products will have no animal ingrdients or by-products. Cruelty free may have animal by-products such as beeswax.

          Hope that clarifies!

          1. I see, sorry. I misunderstood — I thought cruelty-free and vegan were the same. I don’t understand how using an animal product as a main ingredient can be considered cruelty-free.

            1. Cruelty free means the products / ingredients are not tested on animals. Vegan means the product contains no animal by products, such as honey, beeswax, milk, etc.

  1. I just tried the Doll Eye mascara and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! I bought the long lash formula. It goes on like a dream, not a clump in sight. It wore amazingly well in 115 degree heat. I was out running errands all day and the mascara had great staying power, no flaking at all. I’m a happy girl. Thanks SO much for your recommendation.

    1. You’re very welcome! Right now I’m obsessed with the UD Perversion mascara! Also, don’t forget that you can use Anastasia Lash Genius to waterproof any mascara for you 🙂

  2. The Milani Runway Lashes comes out much too goopy and clumpy. I like the formula, but SO much product comes out on the brush, the clumps can’t be avoided. Even after close to 4 months, it’s still the same. They have another formula called Grandissimo Lashes that I like better, however, the brush is HUGE, I prefer a smaller brush. I’ve got the Bare Minerals and Doll Eye mascara on the way – hopefully one of those will be better.

    1. I’ve been using Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara and the new Urban Decay Perversion mascara more than anything else. The results I get are pretty amazing.

  3. Courtney, any suggestions for waterproof ones? I think Light’s Camera Splashes is okay – it’s fine. I don’t like Buxom’s waterproof formula, and Flawless Definition is good, but I hate the brush. Any other ones you can think of? I don’t know of any other waterproof cruelty free ones.

    1. Actually, what I prefer to do is take my favorite mascara and then use Anastasia Lash Genius waterproof top coat on it.

  4. I actually have Buxom Lash mascara and I absolutely love the Volume it provides and I also have Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Lashes instead of the Flashes one because it gives me a lot of length.

  5. Of all your choices I need the Too Faced. I’m sorry I forgot to put Tarte on my list since I love all of their mascaras that I’ve tried.

  6. I love the Urban Decay one! One of my other favorites is from 100% Pure. Their black tea one is lovely for length!

  7. I had no idea all these brands were CF! I love UD Big Fatty and Buxom Mascaras, too. So good!

  8. I’ve never heard of that Punker mascara before. Very interesting concept. I’ll have to check it out.

  9. Now I have a ton more mascaras to add to my “try it” list! The Better than sex mascara is getting mentioned a lot! I hate the name but I want big false looking lashes. I might need to try this!

    1. surely the pretty packaging makes up for the name? BTS is my boyfriend’s favorite mascara on me
