My Bare Face

My Bare Face 2023

Here’s my bare 44 year old face. I’ve only got my daytime skincare routine 2023 products on in this photo.

Bonus Skincare Tip

As a bonus, I will say that one thing that tremendously helped me with my skin and my hair was when I changed what food I eat. Prior to 2018 I ate low fat and high sugar. Since 2018 I eat high healthy fats daily like olive oil, raw macadamia nuts, and avocadoes. This has greatly improved the quality of my hair and skin. If you don’t eat healthy fats daily right now, I would recommend talking to a nutritionist to see if it is a fit for you. I eat low carb (but not strict keto), low sugar (trying to avoid as much added sugar as possible), high healthy fats, and high protein. I eat as many vegetables as I want, usually focusing on broccoli, butter lettuce, and peas. How I eat plays an integral role in my Skincare Routine 2023.

Also, if you are shopping on Amazon, I directly link to the brand selling the product, except for my Canmake SPF. I link to a trusted seller Takashima who sells authentic Canmake products. It’s often cheaper to buy directly from a brand on Amazon than through a brand website, which is why I’m linking to them. I don’t know about you, but as someone who is on a very tight budget, I save money where I can. Amazon has horrible working conditions and treats their employees terribly, but I totally understand being on a budget and if they’re the most affordable place to shop, shopping there.

Daytime Skincare Routine 2023

1. Missha Time Revolution Red Algae Treatment Essence – $26.60

I start with the Missha Time Revolution Red Algae Treatment Essence. I put this product into a small spritz bottle and spray my hands, then pat it on my face. Missha Time Revolution Red Algae Treatment Essence has antioxidants in it and it has fermented ingredients. This is the newest product in my skin care routine.

2. CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence – $25

The CosRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence is a very thick clear serum that immediately makes my face look plumped up, which is why I love it during the day. The snail extract is something my dry, sensitive skin loves. It also has sodium hyaluronate, which is a form of hyaluronic acid. This has been the best serum that I’ve found to date for my dry skin.

3. Silk Naturals Grand Reserve Day Cream Moisturizer – $19.99

Silk Naturals Grand Reserve Day Cream Moisturizer is such a great daytime moisturizer for dry skin. When it appeared that Bliss discontinued the Ex-glow-sion moisturizer, which had been my go-to facial moisturizer for 4 or 5 years, I was devastated. I started poking around Silk Natural’s site and saw the Grand Reserve, so I gave that a try. It’s touted as great for my skin concerns – dryness, flaking, wrinkles.

It has a very silky, thin texture and I’m so glad that I gave it a try. I love it more than I loved the Bliss, and that’s saying something!

4. Canmake Mermaid Skin Gel UV SPF 50 PA++++  (Takashima) – $12.99, currently 30% off at YesStyle – $9.73.

I use Canmake Mermaid Skin SPF 50+++ because it helps my dry skin have a more dewy glow, and it looks great on its own or worn under makeup. It’s got a beautiful thin texture. There’s no white cast with this SPF.

If I’m fighting with my mental health, which happened a lot when I was working through burnout, I will only put on my moisturizer and SPF. I don’t EVER skip my SPF.

Nighttime Skincare Routine 2023

1. Missha Time Revolution Red Algae Treatment Essence – $26.60

Same as in the morning, I repeat the essence.

2. Silk Naturals the Works Serum with Bakuchiol, Vitamin C, 4D Hyaluronic Acid – $34.99

Silk Naturals the Works Serum with Bakuchiol, Vitamin C, 4D Hyaluronic Acid is my anti-aging night time power house. I do want to mention that this serum has a slightly gritty feel, which may bother some people, but I do fine with it. It has Bakuchoil, which is a retinol alternative. Matrixyl 3000, which is an anti-inflammatory, very helpful for skin like mine with rosacea.

3. Missha Super Aqua Snail Sleeping Mask – $16.20

Again, my skin seems to love Snail Secretion Filtrate, which is meant to treat issues such as acne scarring, redness, dullness, and lack of elasticity, dryness, and moisture.

I went through 10 different night time moisturizers in 2022 until I stumbled upon this mask. My skin was unhappy for a good chunk of 2022 due to stress, working through burnout, and me not taking care of myself properly due to mental health issues.

4. Good Molecules Bakuchiol Oil Blend for Dry Skin – $10

I use the Good Molecules Bakuchiol oil on an as needed basis, when I’m feeling extra dry, as my last step in my night time skin care routine. This oil is a retinol alternative and as someone whose skin doesn’t like retinols, because it dries me out too much, this is fantastic. I’m working to make it a habit to use this at least 3 times a week for my Skincare Routine 2023.

If I’m fighting with my mental health, I will only put on the Missha Super Aqua Snail Sleeping Mask or Good Molecules Bakuchiol Oil Blend for Dry Skin.

Lip Care

1. Sik Naturals Super Fruit Lip Mask – $5.95

My lips are on the dry side, despite the fact that I drink tons of water daily. I only drink water, I don’t drink soda or coffee. Occasionally I have herbal tea.

The best lip mask I’ve found for my lips that I put on at night before bed, that I use to prep my lips before lipstick, and to add moisture throughout the day is the Silk Naturals Super Fruit Lip Mask. It’s so affordable, and it has ingredients such as shea butter, jojoba oil, avocado oil, and pomegranate seed oil. So many lip balms just dry me out but this does not. Amazingly, Silk Naturals has even created tinted versions of this lip mask! It is so good!

2. Coola Organic Liplux lip balm spf 30 – $10

This is not a hydrating lip balm for me or for Dave. We put on the Silk Naturals Super Fruit Lip Mask, then apply a layer of the Coola SPF 30 to protect our lips.

Special Skincare

For Rosacea Outbreaks – The Ordinary Azelaic Acid – $11.10

The Azelaic Acid has 10% azelaic acid, which helps whenever I have a rosacea flare up with postules.

For Exfoliation 2 to 3 Times a Week – Pixi Overnight Glow Serum – $24

Pixi Overnight Glow Serum has been a staple in my skin care arsenal for years. I don’t really hear people talk about Pixi that much, which is a shame, because their skin care works wonderfully for me, which is why I’ve kept them around in my Skincare Routine 2023. This serum has 10% glycolic acid and arginine, as well as aloe vera and vitamins a c and e.

My Favorite Skincare Mask – Pixi Glow O2 Oxygen Mask – $24

The Pixi Glow O2 Oxygen Mask has been my favorite skin care mask for years because it instantly makes my skin feel softer and smoother. I use it 4 to 5 times a week, depending on what I’m doing. Sometimes I use it daily. Pixi Glow O2 Oxygen Mask is something I love to put on in the shower in the morning, after I’ve washed my face, and put it all over my face avoiding the eyes. I especially love to do this after I’ve shaved my face. It has caffeine and red ginseng in it. My skin adores it.

Face Cleanser

Burt’s Bees Gentle Cream Cleanser – $7.99

I don’t believe in spending a ton of money for my facial cleanser. I buy the Burt’s Bees Gentle Cream Cleanser, which is hydrating and soothing for my skin. It contains aloe vera, squalane, bakuchiol hyalrunoic acid and ceramides. Gentle Cream Cleanser is the perfect affordable cleanser for dry sensitive skin like mine and why I’m keeping it around for my skincare routine 2023.

Makeup Removal

I have 3 products I use for my makeup removal.

Milani Green Goddess Makeup Melter Cleansing Balm – $14.99

I’ve tried several cleansing balms and this is the one that works best for my dry skin. It has cananbis sativa oil in it, which nourishing and soothing. I apply it straight to mymakeup and massage in a circle to break it down. I don’t get this anywhere near my eyes.

Paula’s Choice Gentle Touch Eye Makeup Remover – $18.05

Makeup Eraser – $20

I use a warm damp makeup eraser with Paula’s Choice Gentle Touch Eye Makeup Remover to remove my eye makeup. I also use this on the rest of my face after I’ve taken off my eye makeup.

Body SPF

I mention that I wear SPF 365 days a year and I always reapply. SPF is a staple part of my skincare routine 2023.

I  use Coola Classic body Organic Sunscreen Spray SPF 50 – $28

I spray this on and then I rub it in with my hand to make sure that I don’t miss a spot. It’s not sticky, it’s not greasy, it absorbs fast and works well.

Both of the SPF products I use as chemical, but if you prefer physical sunscreens, look for ones with zinc and titanium. They’re supposed to be better than chemical, but as someone with tactile issues, I buy the one that gives me the least amount of issues.

Body Moisturizer

Cocoa Pink Dry Oil Spray $16.35

While my face and scalp are on the dry side, my body is more on the normal side. What I use to hydrate my skin daily is the Cocoa Pink Dry Oil Spray. I love this spray because it absorbs into my skin quickly and leaves it feeling smooth and silky soft. Plus, you can pick any scent you want for it! Yes please! I’m happy to be continuing to use the dry oil spray in my skincare routine 2023.

Hand and Foot Cream

A Girl’s Gotta Spa! Energizing Citrus Body Lotion – $22

My hands, but especially my feet, tend to be very dry, so I recently started using the A Girl’s Gotta Spa Energizing Citrus Body Lotion on my hands and feet to improve their hydration and elasticity. It has olive oil, shea butter, anc cocoa butter in it, which my skin adores.

Hair Care Routine 2023

I’m continuing to grow my very long hair. For my Hair Care Routine 2023, I wash my hair every 5 to 7 days. I use a great moisturizing shampoo and a very hydrating conditioner treatment. I air dry my hair 99% of the time and rarely heat style.

Beachwaver Good Vibes Moisturizing Shampoo – $24

Joico K-Pak Color Therapy Luster Locks – $38.50
