NARS Valhalla and Porto Venere Spring 2015
Today I’ve got some lovely shades – NARS Valhalla and Porto Venere – from Spring 2015 to show you. I’ve also snuck in 2 of the Laced with Edge Hardwired shades – Canberra and Gabon. NARS Spring 2015 is all about nudes, but I needed some color in here.

The piece I’m most excited over is Porto Venere eye paint. I’ve been dying for a light matte eye paint that I can use to brighten the lower water line. When my allergies are excessively bad, the only eyeliner that I can use (and not have come off on my contacts) is the NARS Eye Paint, but I don’t always want black on my lower waterline. So this is a welcome addition to my trove of eye paints. (See my Eye Paints here)
Porto Venere Eye Paint
soft pale pink
My Thoughts
pale beige with peachy-pink tones
Valhalla
soft shimmering pink peach
My Thoughts
peach with pink shimmer, very pretty eye brightening neutral
Canberra (Laced with Edge Hardwired Eyeshadow)
shimmering lavender
My Thoughts
dark shimmering blue-toned purple, almost verges on a navy shade for me.
Gabon (Laced with Edge Hardwired Eyeshadow)
bronzed green
My Thoughts
blackened bronze base with gold shimmer
I wanted Valhalla merely for the name (Vikings! Atticus!) and I think it’s perfect as an all over eye color or as an inner lid color to help brighten the eyes.
Gabon would make a great crease color or an unusual smoky eye.
I think Canberra would actually be perfect as the outer lid and crease color of a look like my Smoky Teal Watercolor look.
I can certainly see people using Porto Venere as a cruelty free replacement for MAC Bare Study or Painterly (I was always a fan of Bare Study). It can be used as an eyeshadow base, too, though I like it for the waterline, as mentioned above.
The NARS Spring 2015 Color Collection (I think color is really a misnomer here) features Tilda Swinton (who is awesome and I loved her in the movie Orlando) and nude colors done François Nars’ way – a nude scene that is daring, baring, anything but neutral.
In addition to Valhalla and Porto Venere, the collection also contains Reckless (sheer pink shimmer blush), Liguria (nude caramel lipstick), St Paul de Vence (Shimmering nectarine / Chestnut LE duo eyeshadow), Guyane (seashell pink gloss), Vent Sale (silver highlight LE gloss).
I personally don’t think the rest of the nude shades would work on me, but that’s because I feel like I look like I’m washed out in a lot of those tones. I do think that Valhalla and Porto Venere should be wearable on a variety of skintones. Porto Venere is definitely my favorite though. I love the Eye Paints and I want them in every color of the rainbow!
The NARS Spring 2015 is available now.
What do you think of NARS Valhalla and Porto Venere? Are you a fan of the NARS Spring 2015?
The Nars Valhalla is quite lovely looking and I do adore the name as I find Norse mythology fascinating. I just may have to pick this one up!
Great post! I knew that you’d add some fun color in here, when I saw this collection I thought to myself that you would think it was pretty nude! Those Hardwired shades are a perfect addition! Love your suggestions about using the Porto Venere for the waterline. I am the same way, I can’t do any shimmer on the waterline, especially with contacts! I love this collection as I’m a nude lover, these nudes are a lot fresher than some other “nude collections” And I think the Porto Venere would be gorgeous if you were doing a cat eye and you really wanted that clean look don’t you think? 🙂 I think the Vent Glace lipgloss would be pretty in the middle of the lip, the other lipgloss in the collection pretty with a super smoky eye, NARS is the only lipgloss I can do, I’m not a lipgloss person!
I’ve never tried anything from NARS…but that Canberra color is gorgeous! And yes, I see it leaning towards that navy color but still so pretty!
If you try anything I would try the Valhalla Blush, NARS blushes are amazing. Anything from NARS will be wonderful quality.
Porto Vinere is GORGEOUS!!! I’m not really into using white on my waterline to brighten up and give the appearing of bigger eyes but this is literally THE perfect shade!!!!
yes! I totally agree, I think this would be much prettier than white! And I like using a matte on the waterline anyway so this is perfect.
So pretty
Those Canberra and Gabon colours are sensational. I think a lot people with fair complexions feel/look washed out with a bunch of nudes/neutrals on. When I have worn them, my students at school (I teach primary) ask me if I am feeling alright…. I need colour. Those colours are gorgeous. You would use them forever.
I’m a huge fan of eye paints and need to try out NARS for them. Valhalla and Canberra are going on my wishlist now as well!
Valhalla looks like it might be similar to MAC Expensive Pink. Very pretty. I’m like you, though, in that I need a bit of real colour or I look a bit dead!
I smell a NARS haul in my future… Amazing swatches!
The bronzed green shadow is such a stunning color!
NARS is one of my favorites. Their eyeshadows are so vibrant!
Will I be shunned if I admit I’ve never used NARS before?! That blush pink looks incredible, though!
I love allllll that NARS. Porto Venere has been my go to base for every look I’ve done since it arrived. Love it!
These are really pretty but Gabon is my favorite… I really enjoy the shades. I think that the eye paint would work well with me too.
These are so pretty! I love the pigmentation and the packaging!
These are gorgeous shades. Not a great fan of nudes but it’s nice to have ’em if I want to break up the monotony of brights
NARS is one of my all time fave brands and is also in my makeup gals kits on set. I love this!!
So pretty!
These are gorgeous!
I want them all!! I like really want Valhalla!
Love them!!!
I just went back and read your NARS Eye Paint review, and I was happy to see there were several matte shades plus the shimmer definitely are not over the top for me. I hope that the Porto Venere is a sign that there will be more lighter shades added to the collection. I’m off to check out the website. Wish there were so pricey, but now I know what I’ll be buying next time I have a Sephora coupon or sale.
OOOOOH I want Valhalla and Gabon. REAL BAD. Oy. Also, your photos are looking amazing! <3
OMG OMG OMG these are so gorgeous that I’m losing my mind! I really need Gabon, and your swatches are absolutely drool-worthy, Courtney! The last thing that I need is another eyeshadow, but Gabon will be mine!!!!!!!!!!!!
Holy gorgeous colors! Gabon is calling my name!
Gabon is one of my favorites always!
Canberra is calling my name
