More Makeup Geek Shadows

I’ve gotta tell you all, I love the Makeup Geek shadows that I’ve purchased. I’ve used them in a few looks so far and they’ve worked really well. This time around I swatched the colors on bare skin instead of on primer, even though I always use primer. You can see my initial swatches here.

Now that I’ve used several of these in different looks, I can tell you that yes, they are good quality shadows. Yes they’ve got nice pigmentation. Yes, they’re reasonably priced. There are 50 shades currently available, so while there aren’t as many shades as you will find at most of the indie makeup companies, many of these are good, staple shades.

Teaser of an upcoming look with Mango Tango in the crease.

Mango Tango is a really gorgeous shade that I recently used in a crease color (in an upcoming look) and I was happy at how easily it applied and blended out. It was easy to work with. I need to try Purely Naked sometime soon. Neptune is one of the easiest matte blue shades that I’ve ever worked with.

Would I purchase again?
Absolutely. I’ve now purchased a total of 9 shades and I will continue to purchase these shadows as more colors come out that I must have. I really do like the colors that I’ve picked up. I think Marlena has done a fabulous job putting together her eye shadow collection.

Have you tried the Makeup Geek shadows yet? Do you follow Marlena’s blog? I’m subscribed to her by email 🙂

  1. @Emi at Project Swatch The black one – Corrupt – is the best black shadow ever made, by any company, anywhere. The only way to get the same level of pigmentation would be to use straight black oxide, which makes an unholy mess. You won’t regret buying it if you do. You’ll also probably never need a replacement because it’s truly that concentrated in terms of pigmentation.

  2. I’ve got about 10 now, including Vanilla Bean, Moondust & Cupcake – and after seeing these swatches, I gotta get Dirty Martini! I don’t yet have a green like that!

  3. I ordered 7 MUG’s eyeshadows and 3 brushes over the Valentine’s Day period where she gave a 15% off. Waiting for them to arrive! And it’s funny that we don’t have a single common eyeshadow color… Thanks for the swatches! 😀

  4. Hi! My name is Amber, and I am a community manager at Makeup Geek. Marlena and I really enjoy seeing all of your creations on your blog.

As you may have seen we are doing a slow roll-out of our new Idea Gallery system on our website. It’s still a little rough around the edges, so I was hoping you could try posting some of your looks in the system and let us know what you think and what our top priorities for improvement should be.

We’d be more than happy to provide you with some additional free eyeshadows for your help and for posting our content in the system.

Would you be interested in teaming up? If so please e-mail me, because I am in constant use of my e-mail (amberh@makeupgeek.com).

    Have a wonderful day!

    <3 Amber

  5. These colors all look great! I’m going to have to check out Makeup Geek! Thanks for the swatches!

    1. They’re definitely worth it. I’ve got 12 more colors to swatch from Makeup Geek soon.

  6. I got my Makeup Geek shadows today! I wasn’t sure about this eyeshadow palette, but I saw this set and how bold the colors were and wanted to try them out. I absolutely love it! Colors are so pretty and you’ve got so many combinations to work with and just get creative.

  7. I haven’t purchased because I was told the shadows came from an outside supplier and and they just sell them in her shop, but I can’t find information about the shadows and their source on her website. Do you have more info about the shadows and where they come from?

    1. You know, I don’t, but I can try emailing to find out. I was under the impression that Marlena had worked with a lab to create this line.

      1. Not 100% positive, but I believe the same as Phyrra… if you watch her youtube videos, she is completely invested in this line and seems VERY involved in the color selection and formulation.. She DOES have other products that were for sale on her website (and still are) such as MAC sample pigments, sugarpill, etc.. but I really think the MakeupGeek products are her own.. just my interpretation of the products,, either way I have heard from everyone that they rival Mac, and are superior in quality, color and pigmentation.

    2. I emailed and found out that Marlena does work with a lab to get the colors she wants created by that lab, which is essentially what Amy does with Sugarpill 🙂
