Michael Todd Soniclear Cleansing Brush Review

Michael Todd Soniclear Cleansing Brush Review

Not too long ago I received the Michael Todd Soniclear Cleansing Brush to review. I was excited to receive this brush because it arrived right around the same time that my other face cleansing brush died. The Soniclear seemed like the perfect upgrade! This is a really cool brush because it’s multi-purpose. It’s beloved by everyone from Oprah to Lady Gaga. I’ve been testing the Soniclear out for about 6 weeks now.

About the Michael Todd Soniclear Cleansing Brush
This is the first ever sonic skin cleansing brush with built-in antimicrobial protection against stain and odor causing bacteria. This brush does not rotate, but it does vibrate to cleanse the skin. The really cool feature of Soniclear’s brush is that it combines LIFE’s patent-pending organic antimicrobial technology with another EPA registered LIFE antimicrobial to render microbes unable to reproduce, protecting from microbial contamination. The Soniclear removes makeup 6 times better and cleanses two times better than with hands alone. It uses patent-pending sonic-wave powered technology to micro-massage away dirt and other impurities and gently exfoliate at brush speeds in excess of 300 times per second.

  • 6 power settings
  • automatic timer
  • waterproof – can be used in the bathtub or the shower
  • massages away dirt, oil, makeup, and impurities
  • gently exfoliates
  • protects itself from microbial contamination
  • 2 year warranty

Michael Todd Soniclear

First, I have to say that I LOVE this brush because it’s purple! I can’t think of a better color scheme that Michael Todd could have chosen. The deep purple with lavender purple and white looks great. The brush is easy to hold in my hand. It’s not too heavy or too light. The buttons are easy to use. The bottom button turns it on and off. The top button turns up the speed so that you can use it as fast as you like.

Michael Todd recommends that you do not share brush heads with anyone and that you replace your brush heads every 6 months. Brush heads are only $25 each.

As I mentioned above, the Soniclear cleansing brush is multi-purpose. It has two brush heads – one for the face, and an extra large one for the body. With my sensitive skin, I can’t use this brush on my face daily, but I can use it every other day.

When you’re using it on the first setting for the face, it will beep about every 20 seconds, so that you know to move to another part of your face. I’ll start on my forehead, then move to my cheek, then my other cheek, then my nose, then my chin. I feel like it does an excellent job of cleansing my face and getting all the gunk out my pores. When your pores are clean, they appear smaller. It does a good job of deep cleaning places where I feel like my pore are very evident, like my forehead and my cheeks. After cleansing with the Soniclear, I feel like my skin is prepped to drink up the serums and moisturizers I put on it.

I do like to use the body brush once a week because I feel like it helps to eradicate dry skin, making my skin soft and making it easier for my body butter to absorb.

This really feels like an innovation on the original facial cleansing brush. If you’re considering a new brush, I highly recommend looking at the Soniclear because of its multi-purpose nature, as well as its ingenious anti-microbial properties and sonic cleansing technology.

What do you think of the Soniclear brush?

  1. This looks like a really great product to have! This is the second time today I have seen one of these cleansing brushes.

  2. Aside from the lovely colour, is it any better than the Clarisonic? Very similar spec and promises. (ie 6 times more thorough cleansing, etc).

    1. So I have tried several different facial cleansing brushes in addition to the Clarisonic. My opinion with this one is that it is better for several reasons –
      1. it doesn’t have a rotating brush head, it has a vibrating brush head, so less likely to get gunked up or brush against your skin too harshly.
      2. it has antimicrobial bristles -this is a new technology from what I understand, which the clarisonic does not have. it lets you go 6 months between changing the brush head
      3. It comes with 2 brush heads – 1 for the face and 1 for the body. I don’t know of a Clarisonic model that comes with 2 multipurpose brush heads, and last I looked they wanted you to buy 1 for the face, 1 for the body and 1 for feet (though this could have recently changed).
      4. The Clarisonic systems range from $99 to $265, though the $99 model is more basic than this, doesn’t have multiple brush heads, where this one is $149.
      5. I initially tried using the Clarisonic twice a day but after months of that it irritated my skin, and I could only do it twice a week. However, my husband loved it and used it daily. This I can use 3 to 4 times a week without an issue because of the difference in the way the brush cleans the skin.

I bought my Clarisonic in 2009 and it lasted until 2014, which I thought was excellent performance.

If you’re looking for something ultra gentle for the face, I recommend the Foreo Luna, which is another multi-purpose facial brush. I like it for evening use right now because I can use it daily without issue (super gentle nubs instead of bristles). I use it to cleanse my face and then put on my serums and night cream. Also, it has a massage feature that you can use on your pressure points on the face. And when I have a sinus headache I can use it to help my sinus headache. Unfortunately it doesn’t fix my migraines.

      Hope this helps!

p.s. I do have a comparison post planned, but I wanted this post to focus on the review solely.

      1. Gosh, thanks, Phyrra. i’ve been using the Clarisonic for about six months now. I’m not convinced my skin is any the better for it, but I suppose the knowledge that it’s really clean is quite satisfying! I don’t think we can get Michael Todd in the UK, but we can get Foreo. I guess I’ll continue with Clarisonic for now, but if it shows signs of going belly-up at any point, I certainly give MT some consideration and see if anyone will ship to the UK. Thanks for such an in-depth reply. I really appreciate it. xx

        1. No problem! I do honesty think that tools like the Clarisonic, Soniclear and Luna are good for the skin if you don’t overdo them. I would say stick with your Clarisonic until it bites the dust or unless you see a good deal on a Foreo Luna or Soniclear. I’m not sure of your skin’s needs (mine are sensitive) so if I truly want to use a brush daily it has to be the Luna. But I absolutely feel like the Soniclear does an amazing job of deep cleaning my pores. The reason you want your pores cleaned out is so that they appear smaller and you’re less likely to experience break outs.

  3. I was a little worried about the brush but hearing that you’re able to use it (even if it’s every other day) is reassuring!

    1. Yeah I just can’t use anything with bristles like this daily or it can make my skin worse. I’ve been consistently using this every other day or every 2 days without issue.

  4. I like the Michael Todd Soniclear too but also can’t use it everyday on my skin. Glad you showed a photo of how to place it in the holder to charge it. I intend to do that too. I tried charging it like my electric toothbrush with the brush facing outwards and it didn’t work. I thought it was broken!
