Hello, Hex Squad! Today I’m sharing my Interview with Shakiira from Kira Cosmetics. Kira Cosmetics is a Florida-based makeup and lash beauty brand. The founder, Shakiira, is a beautiful woman with muscular dystrophy. Her line is perfect for makeup lovers who love luxurious packaging and the art of makeup. How long have you loved makeup?
Definitely since I started to wear makeup ,which was only in my late teen years.
What prompted you to create your brand Kira Cosmetics?
I have been interested in entrepreneurship since I was 20. My best friend started selling Avon so I joined her. Then sometime after I was a Rodan and Fields sales person until I got sick in 2019 and my world changed drastically. After spending 4 months in the hospital I decided to start my own company.
There is a big need in the beauty industry for a brand that creates accessible products / tools for people with motor disabilities. Do you see your brand expanding to create these items?
Oh my goodness, yes! I definitely have plans for creating tools and products for people with motor disabilities. I do have motor disabilities so that is something I’m definitely excited about adding to the beautysphere.
What influenced you to make your brand cruelty-free?
I have great respect for all life. I don’t believe in harming little furry creatures.
What made you choose the luxury niche?
I love the luxury industry, the glitz and glamour of high end fashion. I knew that I wanted to be a part of the lifestyle so I made the decision that I wanted a luxury brand.
Your product packaging for Kira Cosmetics is gorgeous! Is it refillable?
So right now it’s not refillable but it will be. I do plan on making more products that are eco friendly. I love the refillable concept.
What are your views on sustainability in makeup?
This is such a great question. Right now I’m looking at more options for more eco friendly products like my highlighters. I also include honeycomb packaging in my boxes to keep the products from breaking. Sustainability is so important for our environment and for the ocean as well.
How eco friendly are your products?
My recent launch of my highlighters are recyclable.
Where do you get your inspiration from?
I’m inspired by color everywhere, but I especially love Pinterest and Instagram. I love creating mood boards for color schemes and I draw on those when I make new things.
Do you have a Muse for Kira Cosmetics?
Can I say my muse is Paris Hilton? LOL, I love her aesthetics.
What is your favorite product type to create? Why are you drawn to it above all other types of makeup?
It’s definitely brushes! Brushes are so important to your makeup routine. There’s something different about creating brushes. It’s easier to create that vision in your head whereas makeup requires more focus and attention.
Is there any color you find flattering on everyone?
Mmm yes, definitely a good blue-toned red lipstick. I feel that hue flatters a wide variety of skin tones.
What’s your favorite product that you’ve created so far for Kira Cosmetics?
My powders and my blinged brushes. They’re also my best sellers.
What’s your favorite beauty trend?
My favorite beauty trend last year was Latte Makeup. I love a warm bronzed look.
What’s your best eyeshadow tip or trick to share?
I have hooded eyes, as I believe you used to have hooded eyes too. You wrote a book about hooded eyes, didn’t you? What I do most often is I create my own crease above my normal crease to make my eyes look bigger.

Do you have a signature scent?
Right now I’m in love with Carolina Herrera Good Girl Blush. In case your readers are wondering I’m also launching a perfume line soon. I’m very excited to share what I’m creating when the time is right.
What’s your skincare routine?
In my morning shower, I use Tatcha Deep Cleanse Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser for my face. Once out of the shower, I use Too Faced Plump & Prime Serum. Next I apply my eye cream – Drunk Elephant C-Tango Vitamin C Eye Cream. I finish it off with Drunk Elephant Protini Polypeptide Firming Moisturizer.
Do you have any pets?
Unfortunately I’m allergic to cats and dogs so no I don’t.
What are the top 5 musicians you listen to or your favorite genres of music?
I love pop, rock, and jazz music.
What do you do to pamper yourself?
I love to be pampered! I enjoy getting a great facial, as well as a manicure and pedicure. And who doesn’t enjoy a little shopping?
