Best Cruelty Free Makeup For $5 or Less

Best Cruelty Free Makeup For $5 or Less

Today I wanted to share with you my picks for the Best Cruelty Free Makeup for $5 or less. If you’re shopping for cruelty free budget beauty items, you may not know the best places to look. Never fear! You can find some great buys at Ulta, the drugstore, or online (my personal favorite place to shop!). This post contains a mix of press samples and products purchased by me.

Best Cruelty Free Makeup For $5 or Less

Eyeshadows
As you know, I have a dragon’s hoard worth of eye shadows. So of course, I’ve got tips for the best budget eyeshadows.

Colour Pop Eyeshadows – $5
You get awesome, full size eyeshadows for only $5 a pop! They’re almost all shimmery or sparkly. They work best if you tap them onto the lid with your finger or a very stiff synthetic brush. If you want a soft wash of color, you need to use a soft fluffy dome brush. See my review and more swatches.

Darling Girl Petite Eyeshadows – $2.50
Darling girl has samples, petite and full size eyeshadows. I like the petite size because it still gives you plenty of product for the price.

Silk Naturals Eyeshadows – $4.50
Silk Naturals offers full size eyeshadows for $4.50 and they even have a money back guarantee. Almost all of their eyeshadows are vegan. They offer beautiful colors, as well as vegan clones of popular brands including MAC, bareMinerals and Urban Decay.

Notoriously Morbid Mini Eyeshadows – $2.75
Notoriously Morbid offers a lot of great eyeshadows in samples, mini and full sizes. They also have a monthly subscription service called the Vanishing Cabinet, which I subscribe to. Some shades are vegan.

Fyrinnae Eyeshadow Mini Jars – $2
Fyrinnae eyeshadows come in mini jar and full sizes. They’re all vegan. You definitely need to check out the Arcane Magics. So many gorgeous multi-chrome shades.

Glamour Doll Eyes Eyeshadow Sample Jars – $2.50
Glamour Doll Eyes offer eyeshadows in various sizes. Check out Bunny Heart (a gorgeous rose gold) and their pretty teals and purples. Celestial Crow, Phyrra, and All Nighter are beautiful.

BFTE Eyeshadow Sample Jars – $2
Meteor Shower, Love Potion #9 and Emerald Bliss are stunners.

All of the brands above are available online. All of the brands below are available at drugstores (like CVS, Walgreens or Rite Aid) or Ulta or drugstore.com. Some are available at Amazon.com, but the price is often higher than Ulta or Drugstore.com

e.l.f. Studio Eye Transformer – $3
This is the best palette that e.l.f. has ever made. It gives you 4 opalescent eyeshadows that you can use for inner corner highlights or to layer on top of darker shades. LOVE IT!

Milani Bella Eyes Gel Powder Eyeshadows $4.49
Milani came out with these gorgeous eyeshadows. I still can’t believe that these are drugstore eyeshadows. The overall quality is awesome. All shades are vegan except for Bella Rouge, Bella Purple, Bella Pink, Bella Rose, and Bella Fuchsia.

Nyx Hot Singles Eyeshadows – $4.50
Nyx came out with a ton of shades in the Hot Singles line. They all benefit from use with a primer. They have a lot of different shades offered.

Nyx Glam Shadows – $4.50
These shadows are super sparkly, so expect some fall out. I recommend using a sticky base like Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy or Darling Girl Glitter Glue, or  using e.l.f. Studio Makeup Mist & Set.

These are useful workhorse neutral shades in a matte finish.

Jesse’s Girl Pure Pigment Eye Dusts – $4.99

Sprays
e.l.f. Studio Makeup Mist & Set – $2.99
This is a great cruelty free dupe for MAC Fix +. It’s a versatile product that can be used many different ways, but it’s especially useful with eyeshadow. This is my most used product from e.l.f. When I’m feeling too lazy to reach for Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy or Darling Girl Glitter Glue, I reach for this. See my tutorial.

  1. I’m such a bargainer.. it’s so bad though.. I would rather have 8 eyeshadows that are meh vs 2 that are fab.. so this list makes me really happy hehe!

  2. Awesome post! I’m a bargain shopper.. and it’s great to find some other good quality cruelty free options besides elf and nyx.

  3. Thank you so much for attending week 16 of
#PureBlogLove and linking your fantastic blog post, I can’t wait to see what
you have in store for our next party, Thursday 8 PM EST- Sundays at midnight. Your
post has been added to the #PureBlogLove Pinterest board for all to see 🙂 Have
    a great day!

    Nicole

  4. Is Profusion cruelty free? It sounds like they were a few years ago, but it’s hard to tell now.

      1. Sorry. I saw eyeshadow pallets from them for under $5 and tried to find out about them online myself, and I thought you might know.

          1. Just in case you’d like to know- I bought one of the pallets for $4.99 from Rite Aid. I got the Bare one (neutrals, obviously). They also have a Shimmer one (brights) and a Smokey one. The packaging is cardboard- similar to BH cosmetics, but not as cute. It includes a black liner and a sponge applicator, and has a built in mirror, so would probably be nice for travel. The shadows are sheer without primer, and more solid with primer.

Overall, I’m glad I bought it, but I don’t know if it’s good enough for a “best” list.

I just got the e.l.f. undereye setting powder based on your recommendation, and I’m looking forward to trying it! I’ve just been too rushed in the mornings this week.

  5. I really love Essence — you can find it at Ulta and I *think* at select Walgreen’s. The nail polish is great, the blush is amazingly pigmented and the waterproof mascara in the blue tube is HOLY GRAIL for me. Just a great, fun, super-cheap brand that is cruelty-free.

    1. I need to go back and add Essence and Wet n ‘ Wild into this post, I blanked on both of them but they both make some really nice products!

  6. So I take it Nyx is remaining cruelty-free? It’d make my day to know they are! 🙂 I didn’t hear any follow-up since I heard they’d been acquired by Loreal.

  7. Great picks! I still need to try Silk Naturals. I want to thank you for introducing me to ColourPop and Notoriously Morbid. I love both companies’ products, and they have very nice customer service.

  8. Great list! I’ve been wanting to try a few of these and don’t now why I haven’t since they’re so inexpensive.

    1. So happy to help Brandi! I forgot to include Essence, but they make good mascaras and eyeshadows too. (It only occurred to me just now. doh!)
