Since I have been unable to use retinol products, I’ve been giving this set from Dermalogica a try. There’s actually a 3rd product in this line, the Pure Light SPF50, a broad spectrum daytime moisturizer. However, I’m allergic to one of the ingredients in it, so I’m not using it. I do love the fact that Dermalogica offers a daytime moisturizer with SPF50. I wish more brands offered that high SPF!

The C-12 Pure Bright Serum is a heavy duty skin brightening serum. You’re not supposed to use it all over your face; instead you dot it onto the areas with brown spots, discoloration and uneven skintone. It’s very strong. I’ve been using another Vitamin C Peptide serum all over my face and dotting the C-12 Pure Bright Serum onto my hyperpigmentation spots around the face. After a month of use, I feel like the spots are starting to look lighter, but I think it’s going to take 3 to 6 months of dedicated use with these products to completely fade my hyperpigmentation.

Now, I do feel like the C-12 Pure Bright Serum is very pricey, but I also feel like the bottle is going to last a long time. Since you’re not spreading it all over your face, only dotting it on the problem areas, it’s going to last for several months.

You can use the C-12 Pure Bright Serum twice a day (once in the morning and once at night). I tap this onto the areas of my face that have hyperpigmentation and wait for it to sink in, then pat on another serum. After waiting for that one to sink in, I follow up with Pure Night or with a daytime moisturizer with SPF.

I am in love with the Pure Night! First, it has that a slight soft scent that makes me think of a very expensive night cream. It’s very rich, yet it absorbs into the skin nicely. It’s very emollient and spreads easily all over. I don’t feel greasy when I wake up in the morning. I also don’t feel dry. My face feels soft and supple. I apply this on my face, dot it around my eyes, my neck, my décolleté and the backs of my hands. It doesn’t irritate my eyes or anywhere else on my face, which makes my sensitive skin happy! I feel like this is a great luxury night cream. Even with the way I use it, I feel like I will get 2 to 3 months worth of use out of this bottle of night cream.

Because both of these products are meant for brightening the complexion and reducing the appearance of brown spots, it is critical that you always apply SPF during the day. You don’t want to undo the brightening effect that these products work hard to help with.

The packaging for these products are awesome! They’re both airless pumps. This keeps the product stable. I love the packaging! More brands need to sit up and take notice of this packaging design. I love that the night cream is NOT in a jar!

If you need skin brightening products that will help with hyperpigmentation, brighten and even out your skintone, you should look at Dermalogica Pure Night and C-15 Pure Bright Serum. You can find Dermalogica products at Ulta, or you can use the Dermalogica store locator to find a retailer near you.

    1. You’ll have to ask your doctor. I don’t know and I am not a medical professional. Additionally, I’ve never been able to get pregnant.

  1. These products both sound wonderful! Right now I am taking accutane and while it does help with the acne, it does leave behind a trace of discolored and unappealing skin. Now I’m not sure if this will fade over time, but if it doesn’t, I might take a look at these products!

  2. I love that you’ve tested this out for awhile now, so critical! The Pure Night sounds so amazing, I have sensitive skin too, and I trust when you say that it works for you, it’s going to work for me. Thanks Phyrra!

    1. You’re welcome! I feel like, especially with brightening products, you have to use them for several weeks or months before you can really see results.

  3. Very faithful to my Dermalogica products,! These sound fab. I use Daily Microfoliant and the soothing toner for years now.

  4. The Pure Bright Serum sounds really interesting. I find so many dark spot products break me out and I end up not seeing results. Might have to splurge and give this one a try. I’ve been using the Dermalogica PreCleanse and Special Cleansing Gel which are quite nice, but not amazing.

  5. I would love to follow up with you especially about the C serum in a few months. The vitamin C serums, the dark spot corrector and the Poetry in Lotion I’ve been using for a year or so have minimized my sun damage/brown spots somewhat but there a long way to go. I am so curious about your results with the spot-use serum in a few months.

    1. I’m doing a lot of things for my skin – using brightening products, vitamin C peptide, IPL, and wearing SPF religiously. I’m hoping to see great improvement 🙂

  6. Believe it or not, I haven’t ever tried the line– other than sample packets here and there! These sound amazing for hyperpigmentation and brightening! You have me very interested!

      1. I will put them on my list of things to check out the next time that I go to Ulta! I will definitely look at the night cream!
