Autumn (Fall) Tag October 2015

Autumn (Fall) Tag October 2015

Happy Friday! I’ve got the Autumn (Fall) Tag October 2015 to share with you. My friend Eugenia tagged me. I love Autumn for so many reasons! There are great foods like butternut squash, pumpkin, warm cider, and mulled wine. I do love the slightly cool nip to the air (without it being freezing). If I’m up north, I enjoy seeing the changing leaves.

  1. Love autumn myself. It is the best season – after sizzling in our Melbourne summers (high temperatures and often high humidity – yuck!) I just love how the evenings get cooler. Your costumes are so lovely and they really suit you.

  2. Your costumes are so cute! I ordered Vintage and Pink Lust, and they’re on the way. I can’t wait to try them out. Have a great weekend!

  3. I love your peep toe Docs! I need some new boots. Yes to Hocus Pocus! I’ve watched it twice so far myself. And I’m SO writing down that sweet potato/pear combo you talked about. Yum!

    1. Here’s the recipe 🙂
      Whipped Sweet Potatoes with Pears

You can do this with fresh sweet potatoes or use Bruce’s Cut Yams. Last time I did it I was pressed for time so I used 2 large cans of yams. You also need 4 Anjou or Bosc pears, 1 cup evaporated milk, 4 tsp vanilla (I often double this), 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed), 1/2 stick butter (I sub with earth balance soy-free butter), 1 tsp cinnamon, 1 pinch nutmeg, 2 tbsp orange juice with no pulp, 1 cup chopped pecans (I often double this), and a dry hard cider to poach the pears.

Cook the potatoes (or buy the already cooked sweet potatoes).

Peel and core the pears. Poach them in the hard cider on the stove until they’re soft. Put the pears into a blender and puree them (basically until it’s an applesauce like consistentcy).

Mix the evaporated milk, brown sugar, and butter on the stove and scald the mixture.

Mash the potatoes and pour them in with the brown sugar mixture you scalded.

Add in the orange juice, cinnamon, nutmeg and pecans and stir.

      Add in the pear puree.

Bake at 350 for 15 minutes.

You can top this with marshmallows if you like.

  4. I, too, loved the mermaid costume! If I wasn’t 2 weeks postpartum, we would be going all out for halloween!
