Urban Decay Vice Palette Review & Swatches
Happy Monday! Today I’ve got the Urban Decay Vice Palette for you! I’ve swatched and reviewed it. Today I swatched on bare skin instead of primer. I used Mandy’s trick of tape to create clean lines. I cut tape strips into thirds, which was time consuming. I do like the results, but I’m not sure if I’ll do it all the time.
The Vice Palette has new packaging. It feels rubberized (think like NARS), and it’s purple. The gemstone is like a smoky grey crystal. It’s pretty.

First Set of Swatches:
Anonymous – Laced – Free bird
Echo Beach – Blitz – Penny Lane
Armor – Desperation – Black Market
Anonymous
Opaque almond with matte finish
My Take
Pale peach beige matte
Laced
Opaque pinky taupe with matte finish
My Take
Light pink beige matte
Free Bird
Pink champagne with silver micro-sparkle shimmer finish / light peachy-pink with silver micro-glitter
My Take
Light metallic pink with silver sparkles. This shade has the most fallout of any that I’ve tried in the new shadow formula. I do like the color though.
Echo Beach
Pale wheat with shimmer finish
My Take
Light warm golden beige.
Blitz
Metallic yellow gold with shimmer finish.
My Take
Metallic yellow gold.
Penny Lane
Metallic peachy bronze pearl with golden shimmer finish
My Take
Light bronzey-gold metallic with orange undertones and golden shimmer.
Armor
Metallic dove grey with silver micro-glitter shimmer finish
My Take
Brown taupe with grey tones. This really does remind me of portobello mushrooms.
Desperation
Taupe brown with satin finish
My Take
Dirty grey with brown tones.
Black Market
Jet black satin
My Take
Black with brown undertones.
Set Two – Mostly Brights
Unhinged – Junkie – Chaos
Occupy – Noise – Vice
Nevermind – Provocateur – Rapture
Unhinged
Metallic electric turquoise with shimmer finish
My Take
Metallic mermaid blue
Junkie
Dark green/blue pearl with golden shimmer
My Take
This looks green in the pan. Deep green teal with hints of blue around the edges. I think it’s based off of Junkie liner, but there isn’t any visible gold shimmer to me.
Chaos
Bright blue matte
My Take
Vivid true royal blue. Bit of a powdery texture, reminiscent of Inglot shadows.
Occupy
Metallic steel grey with multidimensional sparkle and shimmer finish
My Take
Beautiful deep grey with blue undertones and sparkles.
Noise
Electric punch pink with gold sparkle and shimmer finish
My Take
Bright blue-based pink with subtle shimmer. It really does make me think of fruity punch!
Vice
Deep eggplant purple with shimmer finish.
My Take
Gorgeous buttery smooth purple
Nevermind
Metallic cork with shimmer finish
My Take
Metallic brown with bronzed sheen.
Provocateur
Light metallic mauve with multi-dimensional sparkle and shimmer finish
My Take
Greyed mauve with large sparkles. This was my least favorite shade because of the shadow texture. It actually reminded me of the MAC crushed metals.
Rapture
Dark greyish purple with multi-dimensional shimmer finish
My Take
Grey-toned purple.
Final Two Dark Shades
Muse – Jagged
Muse
Deep sepia brown with multi-dimensional sparkle finish
My Take
Semi-sheer dark brown with subtle gold sparkle. Not a favorite.
Jagged
Metallic black gold with shimmer finish
My Take
Extremely sheer dark brown with black tones and visible gold sparkle. I don’t know if this shade was meant for layering on top of everything else, or what, but it just didn’t seem to have good pigmentation.
I used Anonymous on the browbone in this look and Urban Decay Cobra for the black.
I used Chaos on the lid and lower crease, Junkie in the crease, Anonymous on the browbone, Black Market at the outer crease, Unhinged at the upper crease, and Echo Beach to highlight. You can check out the tutorial here.
Simple neutral look with Echo Beach on the lid and crease, Black Market used to deepen the outer crease and outer lid, and Anonymous on the browbone.
Now that you’ve seen the swatches of the twenty shades, the only shades that I dislike are Jagged and Provocateur. Jagged is soooooo sheer! It would probably be much better on primer, but that is on bare skin. Provocateur is super chunky and crumbly. I actually like Free Bird, even though it’s got fall out issues. I’m wondering if Jagged might work as a transitional shade in the crease.
The palette comes with a double-ended shadow and crease brush. I love Urban Decay brushes, so even though I’m not a fan of double ended ones (I always feel like one end suffers from being crushed), I do like this brush.
Price:
$59.00 20 x 0.03 US oz = .6 product
Urban Decay Shadow singles are $18 for 0.05 US oz. Typically for .6 oz of shadow, you’re looking at 12 singles, which would cost you $216. So instead you’re getting 20 shadows, all brand new shades.
The UD Shadow brush is $26 and the UD crease brush is $26 individually. If you feel the double ended brush is the same quality as those two individual brushes, that makes the brush worth $52. Most Urban Decay brushes are priced between $24 and $26
If you like at least 12 of the shades in this palette, you should go for it. I feel like it’s a really nice value. For $59 you’re getting at least $216 worth of shadow and whatever value you assign the brush.
I believe this is going to be a limited edition palette, much like the 15th Anniversary Palette. I love that palette and am so glad I snatched it up.
I think bright eyeshadow lovers will be really happy with Chaos, Junkie, Unhinged, Noise and Vice. I think neutral eyeshadow lovers will be thrilled with Anonymous, Laced, Echo Beach, Blitz, Penny Lane, Armor, Depseration, Black Market, Occupy, Muse and Nevermind. There is really a lot of neutral in this palette.
The Urban Decay Vice Palette is currently available for purchase from UrbanDecay.com. It should also be available from Sephora, Ulta and Macy’s in store, and online at Sephora.com, macys.com, and beauty.com.
I gave it 5 stars because I think it’s an excellent value.

What do you think of the new Urban Decay Vice Palette? Love it? Hate it? Tell me why!
Products sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.
Yeeaaahhh…after I saw your preliminary swatches, it just…happened. I seriously just got on the Internet and bought it without thinking. I got it late this week…it is achingly beautiful and worth the $ I shouldn’t have spent, haha!
I love your swatches! Very tidy looking. Also, I really appreciate that you did the math on this palette. I hate it when brands claim a palette has a certain value but it’s not even kind of close in terms of dollar/oz. After seeing your blue/teal look, which was GORGEOUS, I’m convinced that I absolutely NEED to have this palette.
lipglossspandex Doing the math is the hard part for me! I wasn’t sure how to count the brushes, and I counted the eyeshadows by what a full size eyeshadow is vs. its cost. Yes, the blues are great! In general I feel like Urban Decay gives good to great value for their palettes.
Great swatches, also thanks for the math! Econ nerds like me love it (:
thecakepie You’re welcome 🙂
There are lots of beautiful shadows in this, but I think I’m going to skip this one. I’m very happy with my 15:th anniversary palette, plus there are other palettes I want as well.. I can’t get them all, though it is very temptimg =)
roxcat I know! So many to choose from 🙂
I love how you did your swatches! Of course now I want this palette again after already talking myself out of it!
Jessi M Maybe wait for the Sephora Friends & Family sale?
Thanks for the swatches! I really like this palette.
TikiBarbie You’re welcome! It’s a really good mix of colors.
I love the math. :3 Its always nice to know if I actually *am* getting a deal. Fab swatches!
erinforevermore The math is the hardest part for me to do. I wasn’t sure what value to assign the brush. The shadows, I could at least look at the volume & price on regular ones, then go off of that.
I ordered this Saturday morning, can’t wait!
BeautyJudy I think you will be pleased 🙂
OMG they have to stop! I want this so badly and that new Ocho Loco eye pencil set. And I want them NOW.
OhPossum I know! So much Fun!
.I love Nevermind and Occupy! Awesome post. The swatches look amazing! How did you do it? You mentioned tape. It’s hard to get such a clean swatch but yours look awesome.
IvoryandOlive I used tape. I cut tape into third and made strips on my hand. It was time consuming but I liked the results. I felt weird because I didn’t use primer.
