TARINA TARANTINO Emerald Pretty Eyeshadow Palette Review

Recently I saw the TARINA TARANTINO Emerald Pretty Eyeshadow Palette in a look done by Christine of Temptalia. The colors just called out to me and I had to have it.

Tarina Tarantino Emerald Pretty Eyeshadow Palette

Isn’t the packaging cute? I managed to capture a bit of the holographic rainbow effect on the top of the palette.

The palette is made up of three neutrals: Glinda’s Kiss, Silver Shoes and Saw Dust Heart, as well as three fun colors: Ozma, Very Wicked and Dandy Lion.

The Website Claims:

Packaging:
I find the emerald shaped gem packaging to be cute. I also like that the cardboard has some iridescence to it, so that you see a holographic rainbow effect. It really works well with the theme.

I swatched all colors on Meow’s Light Primer.

Emerald Pretty Eyeshadow Palette Swatches

Official Color Descriptions:
Glinda’s Kiss (iridescent white)
Silver Shoes (pearlized silver)
Dandy Lion (pearlized olive green)
Saw Dust Heart (matte deep brown)
Ozma (pearlized aqua blue)
Very Wicked (pearlized emerald green)

My Thoughts on Colors:
Ozma is the perfect teal-blue-aqua shade. It’s amazing. It’s the reason I needed this palette.

Very Wicked made me think of Elphaba from the novel Wicked. It’s a deep pine green and it almost seems to be on a charcoal brown base.

Dandy Lion is a rich, velvety olive green with gold. It reminds me of Butter London Wallace. This was the other reason I needed this palette.

Glinda’s Kiss is a white with soft gold iridescence. It gives you a nice sheen on the skin.

Silver Shoes is a nod towards the color of the shoes in the book, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz. It’s deep and decadent and I love it.

Saw Dust Heart is a awesome deep dark brown. It reminded me of dark chocolate, actually. I think it might be fun to do a smoky look with this shade.

For fun, I also swatched Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Pure Opal and Pure Nude with these colors because they seem like the perfect compliment to the Emerald Pretty palette.

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes! The colors definitely have great pigmentation, great color payoff, superb blendability and an awesome formula. I think Tarina did a great job of capturing the essence of the Emerald City. I love that she gave a nod to both the original novel, as well as Wicked.

What I also like about the palette is that I feel all 6 shades can be used together in various combinations. You could even use Saw Dust Heart as a liner if you were so inclined. The colors seem very well thought out, which I like. Sometimes it feels like colors in a palette are put together haphazardly with no thought into if they would work together or not. I’m pleased to say that this is not the case with the Emerald Pretty Eyeshadow Palette. This is one of the most well thought out palettes that I’ve seen in a while.

Some possible combinations (with Glinda’s Kiss to highlight for all of them):
Ozma on the lid, Silver Shoes to contour
Ozma on the lid, Very Wicked to contour
Dandy Lion on the lid, Ozma to contour
Dandy Lion on the lid, Very Wicked to contour
Dandy Lion on the lid, Saw Dust Heart to contour
Saw Dust Heart on the lid and blended out in the crease
Glinda’s Kiss on the lid and Dandy Lion to contour

Would I purchase again?
Yes! I love these colors. I’m so glad I purchased this palette. I love the quality of the shadows. I feel like it’s a great value for the price and the amount of produce that you receive. I would not hesitate to buy this palette again. The colors I will probably get the most use out of are Ozma, Dandy Lion, Silver Shoes and Glinda’s Kiss.

  1. Love your review, mighty tempting! I’ve been wondering whether this is too shimmery for a 40ish woman? Would you say these are more for evening use? My Sephora doesn’t have it yet and they tend to take up to a month after release dates to get the new items in. Going to watch your video now.

  2. When I saw Temptalia do the look with this I was all like I NEED THIS YESTERDAY! That aqua and green alone makes this palette awesome. Looks super pretty

  3. What a lovely palette! If I had some spare cash right now I’d jump on it but tbh I feel that I have some similar shades.

  4. I tend to avoid Tarina Tarantino because of the packaging. It looks so… kiddie, to me, you know?

Plus, I recall swatching their old palettes and getting poorly textured mess. It looks like their product quality has vastly improved, though. Maybe it’s time to give ’em a second shot.

  5. I’m waiting for this to show up at my local Sephora, but I may just have to cave and order it on line. It looks divine. Thanks so much for the beautiful swatches!

    1. I’ve decided I’m frustrated with that, as sometimes they never get it in stock.
