Perhaps because my skin was combo and sensitive for the longest time, toner never appealed to me. It just seemed like an extra step that served no purpose. However, now that my skin has changed because of my rosacea meds, I have found a use for it!

After I apply my moisturizer with SPF, I wait a half hour and then I apply my Mirvaso medication. This medication takes away most of the redness (pink cast) that my skin has due to rosacea. However, after using Mirvaso, it will leave a white film on my skin sometimes that looks like my skin is peeling off and dry. I’ve found that by using the Pixi Glow Tonic, it will remove this film and leave my skin glowing and soft.

While this may not be the way most people use it, I love it for this purpose! It’s a non-drying product and it really just makes my face feel refreshed.

How do you use toner, if you use it?

Pros

  • Alcohol free
  • Cruelty free
  • Nice, non-drying formula

Cons

  • If you’re not a toner fan, skip this.

  1. i really want to try this next! i love toners and i’ve heard so much about this one. however, i never seem to find this when i go to target!

  2. traditionally toners are to rebalance the ph of skin and close pores after cleansing. i like to use mine in lieu of morning face wash. sometimes i’ll also use it as a carrier if i have a serum or moisturizer that’s too thick/sticky to spread easily.

  3. Do you put on more sunscreen after toning with this? I ask because not only might the act of toning wipe off the sunscreen you’ve already applied (which was probably not enough in the first place if it’s billed as a moisturizer with SPF)–but it might make you more sensitive to the sun. The active ingredient, glycolic acid, is an AHA, the type of exfoliant which increases the skin’s sensitivity to UV exposure (leading to increased risk of sunburn, tanning/freckling, and cancer). Sorry, I’m just concerned!

    1. Hi Helena, so here’s how this works. I apply my moisturizer with SPF and let it sink in for about a half an hour. Then I apply my Mirvaso medication and let it sink in, usually for about a half an hour. After that, I wipe with the toner if I’m experiencing the weird white film. I’m not supposed to apply more moisturizer after the Mirvaso, but I could potentially do it after I use the toner.

  4. Wow! I’ve been searching for a cruelty free but affordable toner. I’ll give this a go. Thanks for the review!

  5. I love this toner and believe me I have used a lot! For years I used DDF 10% Glycolic toner until my skin got too sensitive for it. This is perfect for me now and really does leave skin glowing! but is still gentle!
