Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Stained Glosses Review and Swatches
Happy Monday! Today I’ve got the new Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar Stained Glosses for you. This new product line was inspired by stained glass windows and lighting gels, which are transparent, yet colored. These can be worn alone, layered on top of your favorite lip tar, or mixed. No matter how you wear them, they’ll add dimension and gloss to your look. They remind me of a jelly nail polish finish.
To begin, here are my naked lips. Sadly I didn’t think to take a picture of them before I started. This was after swatching 5 of the glosses. I used makeup remover in between to remove the ‘stain’ part of the stained glosses, but my lips are slightly less pigmented than the color pictured above. Above, they’re a bit red from all the pressure.

My Thoughts
I tested the New Wave for wear. I got 3 hours on the gloss, but then I went to dinner. After dinner, I did have a decent amount of color from stain left to my lips, but I could still use a touch up because I’d rubbed the stain off in places. The formula is very moisturizing and feels great on my lips. usually after swatching 3 lipsticks my lips are crying, but I made it through all 6.
On its own, Voyeur looks odd on me. It’s too yellow and not peach. However, I’m sure it will look good mixed with other colors. I feel like Meta and Jealous are really close in color on me, but both look nice. I adore New Wave and Androgyne on me. Rhythm Box is nice, but I wish it had more of a purple tint to it. I do love the jelly / cellophane type finish.
Maybe because I was a bigger gloss fan than lipstick fan for years, but I find the stained glosses easier to use than lip tars. They also wash out of brushes easier than normal lip tars, too.
I really like how comfortable these are to wear and their neat finish. My must have shades are New Wave and Androgyne. I can’t really decide which looks better between Meta and Jealous. I think Voyeur would look great on someone with more pigmented lips, or if mixed with another color. Rhythm Box feels more like a Fall shade to me.

I did a video on my youtube channel: charismafulltv, by mixing my own lip tars and creating my own recipe to achieve these stained glosses. It’s pretty close, I’m enjoying mixing lip tars and customizing my own colors.

I think that these are a great idea but I’m not so sure if I would spring for one. One of the big draws for the original tars for me is the incredible pigmentation. But hey, if someone thinks the original formula is “too scary” then this is definitely worth a try.
I love the idea of these, but I have to wonder- how would using these compare to say…taking a speck of one of the regular Lip Tars I already own and mixing it into a few drops of clear Lip Tar? I may have to visit Sephora myself and experiment!
