Meow Cosmetics Dark Dreams

Meow Cosmetics Dark Dreams Review and Swatches

Happy Monday! I have another fun indie Halloween collection to share with you. This is Meow Cosmetics Dark Dreams collection, new for 2015. I purchased 3 full sizes aand samples of the other colors. Meow ended up refunding me the cost of 5 of the samples.

Meow Cosmetics Dark Dreams

Meow says that “these unusually complex and mysterious shades are not glittery, but they are inflused with color changing interference pigments, which play with light and look a bit glittery to the camera lens. We have tried to accurately portray their beautiful complexity but they truly need to be seen in person to appreciate them fully.”

This post contains a mix of press samples and products purchased by me.

Price
$7 single jar
$1 sample baggie

Meow Cosmetics is cruelty free and I believe the colors in this collection are all vegan.

Meow Cosmetics Dark Dreams Review and Swatches

While this isn’t a Cthulhu collection, when I saw the name Dark Dreams (and in fact the art that Meow created looks more like Crimson Peak – SO GOOD if you love gothic romance ghost stories) the phrase reminded me of Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn (In his house at R’lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming). So my little Cthulhu Funko Pop seemed appropriate to go with this collection. And apparently they now have a Glow in the Dark Cthulhu and a Patina Cthulhu!

I swatched these eyeshadows on Too Faced Shadow Insurance. I took photos in my light box under daylight bulbs as well as in my hallway in warm light.

Meow Inferno's Light Swatch

Inferno’s Light
duochrome metallic unicorn blood
Purple / silver / brown taupe with soft pink to violet shift. I love this one and I’m glad I bought it in full size.

Meow Phantasm swatch

Phantasm
lurid grape with pink undertones
Blackened purple with subtle pink to violet shift. It’s such a deep, delicious, dark purple. Love it!

Meow Purgatory's Shadow swatch

Purgatory’s Shadow
deep dark deadly teal
Dark ocean teal blue with blue glimmers. It’s a teal blue, how could I not love it?

Meow Strix swatch

Strix
chaotic midnight grape
Deep greyed purple base with slate blue-grey sheen and violet shift. Sometimes I see a turquoise blue shift and sometimes I see a pink-violet shift. This reminds me of a darker version of Makeup Geek Kaleidoscope. This is such a cool shade that I may go back and snag a full size.

Meow Black Mass swatch

Black Mass
metallic charcoal grey
Deep sparkling charcoal grey. It reminds me of Sugarpill Soot & Stars. It’s really flattering on blue green eyes.

Meow Carnage swatch

Carnage
brilliant golden mauve
Deep burgundy with gold iridescence. This is a great Autumnal shade.

Meow Demonology swatch

Demonology
soft shimmering wine
Wine with purple undertones and soft subtle pink iridescence.

Meow Kelpie swatch

Kelpie
complex swamp moss
Deep cool brown with subtle green iridescence.

Meow Bog Juice swatch

Bog Wench
swamp juice
Deep warm green shimmer with hints of gold. I couldn’t get this one to look quite right because it’s not a straight golden green.

My favorites from the collection are Inferno’s Light, Phantasm, Purgatory’s Shadow and Strix. I’m glad that I bought those 3 sight unseen and loved them. I keep toying with going back to snag Strix.

What do you think of the new Halloween 2015 Meow Dark Dreams collection?

  1. These colors are gorgeous but I’m totally SQUEEing over your Cthulhu! So cute! I totally need more of these!! There are too many that I want!!

  2. I love Meow! So exciting to see a new collection!! They are all amazing! Great swatches, thanks for doing them, now that I’ve seen them properly, I can by them!!

  3. I really like that they haven’t got glitter since they look much more sophisticated without it. Those are gorgeous shades.

  4. These are beautiful, especially Phantasm. I though Meow went out of business. Glad to hear they’re still around. I never ordered much from them because I hated how their website was set up.

My hubby and I saw Crimson Peak last night. It’s so beautiful. Not Del Toro’s best movie, but I still really liked it. The house was amazing.

    1. The owner got really sick, and I’m not sure if she has ever recovered, she may still be ill. They’re still in business but far fewer releases. I really like that they always do seasonal releases, bringing things in and out based on seasons / holidays.

I LOVED Crimson Peak! We saw it Saturday. So glad you liked it. I loved how it was so meta – with Thomas asking Edith, how does it end?, and Edith saying, ‘it’s up to you.’ I really thought it was beautifully done.

      1. Oh, I’m so sorry Meow’s owner got ill. I’ll have to check them out again.

I could have spent two hours just watching beautiful shots of the house. lol I want to get it when it comes out and watch it again. I’m sure there’s so much I missed.

  5. They look like stunning shades that are perfect anytime, not just Halloween. I love that they’re not glittery but have a glimmer instead. There are so many shades that I could wear in this collection. Glad to know about Meow!
