Makeup Geek Grey Palette

Makeup Geek Grey Palette Review and Swatches

I wanted to share my Makeup Geek Grey Palette with you. First of all, this was one of the more tricky palettes to put together. I wanted to include Mercury but it looks like that color was discontinued, so I included High Wire instead. In addition to that, I swatched Corrupt (matte black) with these shades since it’s such a spectacular black and I think it’s a staple shade everyone needs.

Makeup Geek Grey Palette

PR + purchased by me.

This is my 6th installment in my DIY Makeup Geek palette series. Since you’ve asked for more, the upcoming palettes are a Teal palette, Green palette, and Cool-toned palette. If you have requests for a palette be sure to let me know below.

I feel it’s important to point out that all Makeup Geek eyeshadows are cruelty free, talc free and paraben free. In addition to that, they’re made in the USA. I personally love Makeup Geek because they’re an independent makeup company that was founded by Marlena and her passion for beauty. She believes in embracing your own unique beauty, which really resonates with me.

Some of the Makeup Geek grey palette shades are comparable to popular colors from non-cruelty free brands (like MAC and Stila), and I’ve noted that info below.

The Grey Palette Swatches

All of my swatches are on Too Faced Shadow Insurance eyeshadow primer.

Makeup Geek Confection swatch

Confection
A blush pink with very subtle gray undertones and a matte finish.
To me this is  a neutral to cool toned blush pink matte (reminds me a bit of UD Laced). This can work as a lid or transitional shade for me. It can be used to blend out the edges of other colors.

Makeup Geek Starry Eyed swatch

Starry Eyed (reminds me of Stila Kitten)
Light champagne beige with slight pink undertones and a foiled finish.
This is a light champagne pink foil (and sometimes I think it has a hint of peach to it). It works as a lid shade for me or can be sheered out to highlight. I feel like this is neutral to warm toned.

Makeup Geek Whimsical swatch

Whimsical
Light silvery pink with a foiled finish frosted silvery pale pink.
This is a gorgeous silvery pink foil. It works as a lid shade or highlight for my skintone.

Makeup Geek Bedrock swatch

Bedrock  (a MAC Copperplate dupe)
A medium gray with strong brown undertones and a matte finish.
This is a midtone grey taupe with hints of brown matte. I think it’s neutral to warm toned. It works as a crease shade for me.

Makeup Geek High Wire swatch

High Wire
Medium silver with subtle blue undertones medium silver with hint of blue.
This is a cool toned beautiful silver with blue undertones.

Makeup Geek Prom Night swatch

Prom Night (a MAC Satin Taupe dupe)
A pale purple with hints of grey and a shimmery finish.
To me this is a shimmery cool toned taupe brown with a silver shift. This can work as a lid shade or crease shade.

Makeup Geek Stealth swatch

Stealth  (a MAC Scene dupe)
A medium gray with strong slate blue undertones and a matte finish.
This is a cool toned medium grey with blue undertones matte. It can work as a crease shade or liner shade. It’s gorgeous as the base of a halo eye with High Wire at the center.

Makeup Geek Graphite swatch

Graphite (a MAC Knight dupe)
Light graphite grey with flecks of silver.
I love this one! It’s a cool toned midtone shimmery grey with subtle silver sparkle in it. Makes for  a good lid shade.

Makeup Geek Galaxy swatch

Galaxy (a MAC Black Tied dupe)
Metallic gunmetal.
Deep cool toned gunmetal grey satin.

Makeup Geek Corrupt swatch

Corrupt (a MAC Carbon dupe)
Matte black.
One of the best blacks ever made. It’s an intense black matte. This is a million times more pigmented than MAC Carbon when I last tried it, which was practically grey in comparison.

Grey Palette Tips

For me, I like pink, purple and blue with greys. Some of my friends prefer taupes with greys, so I tried to accommodate those tastes. I definitely feel like this palette leans cool toned, with only a few neutral leaning warm shades.

If you want even  more grey shades you can look at Sand Dollar (porcelain pink grey matte), Concrete Jungle (deep warm grey matte), Baby Face (light beige with grey undertone matte), Barcelona Beach (grey brown taupe matte), Moondust (metallic silver taupe) and Rockstar (light grey with pink shift).

If you hate anything that even remotely reminds you of brown, like Prom Night or Bedrock, exchange those for one of the alternate shades listed above.

For some simple grey eyeshadow pairings, you can try

  • Confection on the lid, hood in the smoky dome shape, and lower lid. Then pop Starry Eyed onto the center of the lid and lower lid. Then smudge Galaxy or Corrupt through the roots of your lashes.
  • Bedrock as the lid, hood and lower lid color with Prom Night at the center of the lids.
  • Stealth on the lid, hood and lower lid with High Wire at the center of the lids.
  • Whimsical at the inner lid, Graphite at the outer lid, define the outer v with Stealth.
  • Use High Wire with Galaxy or Corrupt for a smoky eye.

  1. I love this series of yours! These Makeup Geek shadows are gorgeous! Your suggestions on colors to pair or
placement really help. I am neutral toned with brown eyes but I love gray.

  2. What a gorgeous palette you created. I especially love Starry Eyed! I’m shocked at how pigmented Corrupt is. I should get one for doing a smudgy shadow liner. I bet it would work really well!

  3. These are perfect and I appreciate that you name the MAC dupes because I’m done with buying and using anything from the company.

  4. Beautiful colors! I love the metallic finish. I don’t think I could pull off the darker colors though… I usually just end up looking like I’ve been punched in the eye. LOL

  5. What a stunning palette! I also really love your suggestions for pairings. Thank you so much for all of the thought, time, and effort you put into this series!

  6. There are a few shades I need to add to my MUG collection like Graphite and Whimsical. My next order will probably be huge. Love your swatches.

  7. Those are all great, but I don’t think I have an exact dupe of Confection in my entire collection (and that’s saying a lot!). Most of my similar shades would be lighter, but I love that that’s a bit of a deeper rosy nude. Off to go make a purchase! lol
