LaVanila The Healthy Sun Screen SPF 40 Face Cream

I know you’ve heard me mention this sunscreen a few times now, so I figured it was time to review it! I believe I picked up LaVanila The Healthy Sun Screen SPF 40 Face Cream from BeautyBar.com due to a gift certificate I purchased through Hautelook.

The Website claims:
A 100-percent natural, chemical-free, moisturizing sunscreen with UVA/UVB protection. This product is free of oxybenzone, PABA, fragrance, and nano-particles. Its minerals are non-coated.

Ingredients:
Zinc Oxide 5.0%, Titanium Dioxide 7.5%, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice* (Aloe, Water), Capric Caprylic Triglycerides (Coconut Oil), Butyrospermum Parkii* (Shea Butter), Glyceryl Stearate, Glycerin, Cetyl Alcohol (Coconut Oil), Jojoba Oil*, Ethyl Hexyl Palmitate (Palm Oil), Morinda Citrifolia (Noni Juice), Calendula Officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract*, Panthenol (Provitamin B5), Polyglyceryl-3 Stearate (Vegetable Glycerin/Palm Oil), Alpha Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Allantoin (Vegetable), Sodium PCA (Amino Acid), Hyaluronic Acid, Phenethyl Alcohol & Ethyl Hexyl Glycerin (Plant-Based Preservatives), Vanilla Planifolia (Vanilla) Extract*, Green Tea Extract. *Certified Organic

Price:
$28 for 1.8 oz, available from Sephora and Beautybar.

Does it live up to its claims?
Yes! I had been using mark For Goodness Face Antioxidant Skin Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30 for quite some time but it had started to burn my eyes if I ever wore it by itself, without eye shadow primer on top, so I started looking for an alternative. LaVanila’s SPF 40 fit the bill! It’s perfect for my needs. It’s a higher SPF (40 vs. 30). While it’s more expensive than what I was paying at $28 for 1.8 oz vs $18 for 1.7 oz, the fact that I can wear it without putting on any makeup makes up for that to me. It’s moisturizing, but not overly so. However, I do recommend letting it settle in for several minutes before putting on foundation or anything else. I do wait several minutes after I apply this and then gently blot my eyes (where I’m the oiliest) before applying my eye makeup. It doesn’t have a scent to me. It does have a slight white tint but that doesn’t bother me. Since I’ve been using this, I don’t use a separate moisturizer or serum. I feel like it’s got enough moisture for my skin.

Would I purchase again?
Yes! I’ll be repurchasing this when I run out. I love it! I think it’s a holy grail item for me because of how well it works and how it protects my skin.

Product purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

    1. I believe this brand is cruelty free. They state ‘We do not use ingredients that were tested on animals nor do we test our finished product on animals.’

  1. Finally – a sunscreen with decent ingredients! This year I’ve been mixing zinc oxide and titanium dioxide into my lotions to make a sunscreen that I know won’t clog my pores. Sometimes it’s a bit of a pain in the butt. Maybe I’ll check out this one next time I’m in Sephora.

    1. Maybe you can try a sample of this? I can use it around my eyes with no problems and love it.

  2. I recently purchased LaVanila The Healthy Deodorant in Vanilla Grapefruit from Sephora and am in love!! This stuff lasts through 3 hours of hula practice and no body odor, which is a first for me with natural deodorants 😉 I have also tried their fragrances, which are phthalate-free and lovely! Sounds like I’ll have to try this cream out as well!

    1. Do you sweat a lot with the natural deodorant? I’ve tried some before, and sometimes I feel ok, and other times I end up feeling wet.

  3. I’m currently using a SPF 55 from Shiseido and I really like it. But I’m loving the ingredients in this one. I’ll have to try it once my current sunscreen cream runs out.

  4. I am so impressed! I saw “Healthy” in the title and thought, “Yeah, right!” but those ingredients are actually really good! Now I just don’t know about the price, haha. How long do you think this will last with daily use?

    1. I think it will last me a month and a half, maybe two months. I use it liberally on my eyes, face and neck. I use SPF on anything else of mine that gets exposed as well.

  5. This product is very much skin friendly….i am using SPF 30,but today i have got the information of this upgraded one SPF 40 on your blog…i am going to purchase it now.

    Thank You
