Laura Geller Balance-n-Brighten Baked Color Correcting Foundation in Porcelain Review

A while ago I purchased the Laura Geller Balance-n-Brighten Baked Color Correcting Foundation in Porcelain from QVC as a part of the Laura Geller Baked Vanilla Nudes set.


The Website Claims:
What is it: A uniquely baked foundation powder, the fairest of the fair and among the most asked-for shades ever!
Who is it for: All skin types and very fair complexions.
Why is it different: Balance-N-Brighten has a unique ability to tone down ruddiness, perk up sallowness, even out blotchiness, and blur away little lines and shadows. By neutralizing any imperfections, it helps your skin look perfectly flawless, yet totally un-made-up.

The Ingredients are:
Mica, Talc, Dimethicone, Isopropyl Palmitate, Polysorbate 20, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Phenoxyethanol, Lauroyl Lysine, Sodium Dehydroacetate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, Retynyl Palmitate, BHT, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288), Manganese Violet (CI 77742). Made in Italy.

Price:
It looks like it is selling for $28.20 for .32 oz / 9 g. The entire set I purchased was $48.30 before taxes and shipping.  (So buying one of the LG sets is a great value if you like the products included.) For comparison on the foundation, MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural is $27 for .35 oz.

This baked foundation is supposed to be made in Italy. According to Laura Geller, creamy liquids infused with multiple pigments are poured onto terracotta tablets and baked for 24 hours. As the moisture bakes out, the batter solidifies into a lush, silky powder. The foundation is silky smooth and very pigmented to the touch.

Does it live up to its claims?
Sort of. This foundation’s claims under the ‘why it is different’ selection are pretty long. I think it lives up to some of them. I feel it does a good job of evening out my skintone, blurring imperfections, and brightening my complexion. I feel like it’s a quality foundation and definitely worth its price. The only claim I don’t feel it lives up to is the ‘who it is for – very fair complexions’ as it doesn’t perfectly match my complexion. I blame that on all the pink veining in mine. If mine had less pink veining and more of the neutral beige or perhaps a touch of gold veining, I think it would work better.


Would I purchase again?
If Laura Geller comes out with a pale neutral version of this foundation, I’d definitely purchase it again. I wouldn’t purchase this exact shade again, because it doesn’t perfectly match my skintone. It suffers from the problem that I’ve run into a lot recently… the palest shade in a foundation range being too pink for my skintone. I need neutral or neutral leaning slightly warm. This foundation is comparable in price to the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, and I think if you like foundations like that, you’ll really like this foundation. Currently it looks like this foundation is offered in Porcelain (pale with pink undertones), Fair (which looks like it leans more neutral), Regular and Tan.

  4. It’s a shame that it’s too pink because it looks like he has a really nice finish. I was thinking of getting it, but I think I’ll be ordering more Meow foundation in Inquisitive Chartreux.

  5. I think that it looks really nice on you even though you don’t feel that it’s the proper tone. Is this the QVC order that you had all that trouble with? I’m glad that you finally got your shipment! Maybe you could use the powder as a blush/highlighter instead of an all-over powder?

    1. Yes it is 🙂 I think I can use this if I blend it with another shade. Really really love the finish on it.

  6. The shade “Fair” has yellow and beige instead of pink veining. It works on my skintone well unless I put too much on, then I can notice that it’s a little darker than my skin color. Also, and I don’t know if they all come out different, but most of the darker swirls are all in one part of the powder so I use the lightest part in the middle of my face and the darker around the edges and to subtly contour.

    1. I will try to put it on and avoid the pink veining and see how it goes. I may also see if I can nab a ‘Fair’ for cheap and see if I can mix the two.

  8. I think the foundation’s are OK, I had the same issues that you did with skin tone matches, I do like her bronzer and the blushes are nice. I think the bronze – n-brighten & shadows are probably her best products.
