Wearing Ultra Light

Does it live up to its claims?
I think so. It does contain SPF 18, it does seem to have all-day staying power, it is blendable and lightweight. In fact, I really love the texture! It also does a decent job at keeping skin matte, but I still prefer to apply a finishing powder after I apply and blend the foundation. I’ve worn it both with and without a finishing powder, and it doesn’t slide all over the place and get greasy on my t-zone.

Ultra Light is a tiny bit too peach for me, in my opinion. Otherwise the color match is pretty good. The texture basically makes it feel like I’m wearing nothing at all. It’s a sort of runny foundation texture and for me, a little goes a long way. I feel it gives me light-medium coverage, as it minimizes my imperfections, evens out my skintone, yet doesn’t make me feel like I’m wearing a mask.

I also really love that it does have SPF, though it’s not got a high enough percentage to be complete sun protection on its own in my book, since you need at least 5% of both zinc and titanium dioxide. While I don’t rely solely on my makeup for SPF protection (as I’m currently using LaVAnile’s SPF 40 face cream), it’s great to have some extra sun protection.

Would I purchase again?
Probably. The texture is really nice. The color is very close. The price, at $38 makes it more expensive than most of the foundations I own, and honestly that’s all that would make me hesitate. If I could get it on sale, I’d probably go for it.

Product purchased by me. All opinions are my own.

  1. Hi! I’ve been thinking about buying this foundation for a while, but I’m not really sure if I should get it in Ultra Light or in Light. I’m fair-skinned but not super-pale, neutral toned with slightly warm undertones and somewhere between NC15 and NC20, I’d guess. In Meow Cosmetics foundation I would probably be a Sleek Siamese or a Sleek Mau (I’ve not ordered samples from Meow yet so I’m not 100 per cent sure). I really need a good liquid foundation (hopefully the Meow Cosmetics foundation will be the perfect mineral foundation) and this foundation sounds perfect so I just hope I can find out which shade I should get. What do you think? BTW, your blog is really great and your reviews are so helpful!

    1. Hi Maja,

My guess would be you would want Light, not Ultra Light. I think Ultra Light would probably be too pale. And glad you find the reviews helpful 🙂 thank you for letting me know!

  2. Ahhh, I’ve been looking for a review in this foundation in ‘Ultra light’! Thanks! 🙂 Just wondering.. what shade are you in other foundations? Mac for instance? Thanks 🙂

    1. Hi! This is just a bit too peach on me, but otherwise pretty good.
MAC is too dark for me.
My perfect match in liquid foundation is NARS Sheer Glow in Siberia. I like Estee Lauder Double Wear in Shell, but it’s a tiny bit pink on me. I like Too Faced Vanilla Creme but it’s a bit dark. Meow’s Pampered Puss mineral foundation in Inquisitive Siamese is a perfect match on me.

      1. Thanks so much 🙂 I know Siberia was too light for me so hopefully shade ‘Light’ will be closer to my skintone, that’s a huge help, thanks for this review!

  3. Because you haven’t gotten enough questions about the real techniques brushes…. Do you also have the ecotools foundation brush? I’ve got the travel size (of the ecotools), but it’s just not big enough. So now i’m torn between the full-size ecotools foundation brush and the real techniques. I love the powder brush (RT) that I grabbed from Ulta a few weeks ago. Looking forward to the review. 🙂

    1. I do have the ecotools foundation brush I think, somewhere, but I’ve never used it. I mostly used the ecotools Kabuki brush.

I normally apply foundation with my fingers and then finish blending with a stipple brush. I’ve started using this brush to blend though and it is nice!

  4. This is definitely one of the better looking foundations I’ve seen on you. I’m always scared to buy foundations on line. I immediately go towards the lightest color, but if if they have too small of a color selection it makes me nervous and if they have a lot of colors, I get nervous also because I’m afraid to pick the wrong color. Actually everything about it makes me nervous so I usually don’t even bother, haha.

    1. I totally took a risk. I couldn’t find any reviews online and I didn’t know anyone who had used it. So I figured I’d be a guinea pig and give it a try 🙂

      I’m very glad i doesn’t suck!

  5. Thanks for the review.
Sounds too good to be true that a liquid foundation doesn’t get greasy in the t-zone and slide around. I’ll have to get this if I find it on sale.

  6. will you do a review on the face cream you used?im interested in it and how it blends out

    1. Yes I’ll be reviewing the LaVanila SPF 40 Face cream because it is amazing for me.

    1. I like the brushes, I’ll be reviewing them 🙂 I’m not done playing with them yet.

  7. Ooh, I couldn’t help but notice you are using a Real Techniques foundation brush for application! How do you feel about them? And the foundation looks like a good match!

    1. I love the Real Techniques blushes and I will be reviewing them. Still playing with them.
