Halloween in Australia with Jerry

I’m SilhouetteScreams, but you can call me Jerry. I’m a 21 year old uni student from the Gold Coast in Australia, and I enjoy rolling around in sparkles when I’m not busy riding my pet kangaroo or shepherding my flock of angry drop bears. ;] I’m also a massive nerd for Greek mythology, horror films, Mahjong and sci-fi television.

We don’t really celebrate Halloween in Australia, much to my dismay. I’d love to try my hand at carving a pumpkin, visit a haunted corn maze and drink my weight in cider, but it’s too hot to eat pumpkin, you’d have to travel for a couple of hours to even find a corn field, and you’d be met with confused stares if you were to ask for cider at your local establishment! Halloween is just used like every other holiday in Australia: an excuse for a piss-up (house party), but with slutty costumes. Some stores do stock small displays of Halloween costumes for children, so we might get a handful of trick or treaters too. It’s so rare though, I never know what to say! I tend to just throw candy at the children, shut the door and quickly retreat to my bat cave to continue watching the scheduled Freddy Krueger marathon.

Eeep, I curled my lashes a bit weird! You could always use falsies and not
look like a lashless boy 🙂

Since our Halloween costumes tend to consist of something slutty, I figured I’d contribute a ~sexy look for my guest post. When I think of sexy dramatic makeup, I instantly think of black smokey eyes and red lips, so that’s what I went with!

Products:

  • Urban Decay Primer Potion
  • Kat Von D High Voltage Eye Primer in Smoky – as a base on the lid + lower lashline
  • Designer Brands Eye Shadow Shimmer Palette: #48 (Shimmery Charcoal) – crease
  • Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Android – lid + lower lashline + dusted lightly in the crease
  • Tarte For True Blood Palette: The True Death – inner corner
  • Sugarpill Bulletproof – to tightline
  • Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes! Mascara
  • Benefit Bad Gal Lash Mascara
Cheeks:
  • NARS Laguna Bronzer – to contour
  • Prorance Sunny Glam Water Glow Skinfinish in M13 – highlighter
Lips:
  • NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Damned
  • Darling Girl Cosmetics Holo-Gloss in Raining Blood
I wanted the smokey eye to be simple and glittery as all hell, so packed Illamasqua Android onto the lid and lower lashline. I then swept the shimmery charcoal from the Designer Brands palette into the crease, and dusted a little more of Android on top to amp up the sparkle. I then added a pop of silver into the corner using The True Death, and brought it up a little into the inner crease. I’ve only used 2 mascaras here because I’m trying to use up my samples. They’re both mediocre when used alone, but nicer when layered together. 🙂
Sexy insurance salesperson?
I kept the cheeks neutral and contoured my moonface a bit with NARS Laguna Bronzer, and packed highlighter onto my cheekbones. Prorance is a Korean brand, but this is a fairly basic baked shimmery white & pastel powder, so it’s easily dupeable. I then lined and filled in my lips with NARS Damned. You could leave the lips matte to contrast with the glittery eyes, but I figured, “hey it’s Halloween, why not slather my entire face in shimmer?!” so I added a shimmery blood red gloss on top.
I hope you enjoyed my look! You could add a bit more colour to the cheeks and go as a sexy secretary/teacher/nurse/taxidermist, or go even paler and use it for a vampire costume. I can personally imagine Pam De Beaufort begrudgingly manning the door at Fangtasia on Halloween wearing this look. 🙂

  1. Another stunning look! I love how shimmery the eyeshadow is and I’m with @Aoife: it’s gorgeous with the red lips. I wish we did more for Halloween, too. 🙁

  2. *Wolf whistle* wowzer! I’m so glad you did a red lip with the smoky eyes, I know some people think it’s too much, but I think it’s stunning!

    1. Thank you Aoife! I’ve always wanted to do a black smokey eye and red lip but haven’t gone anywhere special enough to warrant doing one (most of the looks on my blog are worn to uni during the day), and Halloween is the perfect opportunity. 🙂
