Celebrities Wearing NARS on the Red Carpet at the 2013 Met Ball

I don’t typically post red carpet looks, but the Met ball had a punk theme and I love some of the ones that were sent to me this morning so I wanted to share with you. Many celebrities were at the Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Gala celebrating the unveiling of its newest exhibit, PUNK: Chaos to Couture.

Blake Lively is best known to me as Serene Vanderwoodsen from Gossip Girl. Gossip Girl certainly was a guilty pleasure of mine but I adored Blake on the show. I also enjoyed her in the movie Savages.

Beauty Inspiration: “It was important for us to create something in harmony with the Rodarte looks that Elle and Dakota were wearing,” said Erin Ayanian about the makeup look she created for the Fanning sisters. “Dakota’s look is softer, but Elle’s is more tribal. We referenced the 80s film, Ladies And Gentlemen, The Fabulous Stains.”

I keep seeing the Eye Paint thrown around and I have to wonder if it’s a cream pot of eyeshadow.

I can honestly say I never thought I’d see Sarah Jessica Parker sporting a mohawk. I do like that nod towards punk style.

Beauty Inspiration: “It was Emily’s idea to do pink!” said Jenn Streicher about the look she created for Emily Blunt. “Her dress was black so we decided to bring out the theme of the gala by playing up her hair and makeup. This was pretty daring – we wanted it to be punk yet glamorous.”

Just so you are aware, it does say that the products used on eyes for Emily are not intended for eye use, so it was probably fine for a few hours but not something I would make a daily habit of doing.

I have to say, my idea of punk is edgier than couture. Some of the outfits that I glimpsed at Refinery29’s 18 best Met Ball dresses were good. Some were like ‘what?’ I don’t know that everyone had seen classic punk style, so some of the interpretations were interesting. Anne Hathaway, Anja Rubik, Donatella Versace, Cara Delevingne, Miley Cyrus, Kristen Stewart, and Gwen Stefani also looked great.
