Featherlight Products for Fine Thin Hair: Amika Vault Color-Lock Shampoo & Conditioner Review

Amika Vault Color-Lock Shampoo & Conditioner

Today I’m sharing my Amika Vault Color-Lock Shampoo & Conditioner review with you. Amika sent me these products in June and I’ve had plenty of time to test them out so I wanted to give you my thoughts on them.

About My Hair

Before we get into this review, let me tell you about my hair. My hair is natural waist length with 22″ extensions from Fabuloz Hair. It’s stick straight and fine in texture. It’s stubborn, so hard to get it to hold a curl. My hair is color treated, so I treat it like it is delicate platinum blonde curly hair. It’s dyed with Pravana Vivids and Pulp Riot.

Amika Vault Color-Lock Shampoo & Conditioner

The Amika Vault Color-Lock Shampoo & Conditioner are supposed to protect against UV rays, fight against free radical damage, and counteract dulling hard water. I actually have a water softener in my home, plus filters that I change every few months on all my shower heads, so I don’t have hard water issues.

I both love and hate the packaging. The packaging is aesthetically pleasing but not practical. It’s really cute, but extremely difficult to get the conditioner product out of it in my opinion. Additionally, I think once you get closer to the bottom it will be even more difficult to get out.

Amika claims that the Vault Color-Lock Shampoo will prevent fading and be color safe. In my experience with my Pravana & Pulp Riot dyed hair, every time I used the shampoo my color would run. I found this disappointing because my medicated shampoo that I use at my roots does not cause my hair to run. It could just be because I’m using semi-permanent dyes and it’s formulated to protect permanent dyes.

The Amika Vault Color-Lock Conditioner did not cause my color to run at all. It was nicely hydrating for a daily conditioner but not as hydrating as other conditioners I use.

Both of these products smell great. The Amika Vault Color-Lock Shampoo & Conditioner are very lightweight. I love that they don’t weigh down my hair. However, I wish they were more hydrating for my hair type. Ultimately, these products were both a miss for me and my hair.

You will love the Amika Vault Color-Lock Shampoo & Conditioner if you’re someone who uses permanent hair dye and have fine thin hair. These products won’t weigh down your hair and you’ll love the smell. If you’re someone like me who needs more hydration in your hair, you’ll want to use something else. The Amika Soulfood Nourishing Mask is really nice and it can be used as a daily conditioner.

  1. Well, it looks like my quest for the perfect shampoo will continue. Gosh do I ever appreciate how honest your reviews are!

  2. I’ve had a similar experience with the shampoo stripping my colour and wasn’t too thrilled about that. Thankfully I don’t use temporary colours much.

  3. Color locking, but do you know if they also help with preventing brassiness? Thats been an issue I’ve been having! Sounds nice for the light weight aspect but if you aren’t going to be able to use up all of the product out thats annoying! Bummer!

  4. I have bleached/blond hair and I just use regular shampoo. I should probably use something more specific for my hair tho.

  5. I have to keep my conditioner upside down in the shower since it’s a tall thin bottle too. But if my color treated hair isn’t well conditioned then it looks and feels too dry after a day.

  6. How disappointing! I use both permanent and semi-permanent dyes, and i was looking for a shampoo/conditioner duo that provides UV protection. But i have thick coarse hair and i need a lot of hydration. I’ll keep looking too

  7. I’m actually obsessed with this packaging, even though it’s not user friendly. It’s definitally something my mom may benefit from!
