Phyrra Says Vol. 6

Phyrra Says Vol. 6

This is the latest installment in my Phyrra Says, Vol. 6. I share tidbits about my life. Please feel free to skip if you’re not interested.

Yesterday Dave and I finished watching the Ghost Whisperer series. The ending of that series was awful. Really awful. It was the most disappointing, worse ending to a series that I’ve seen in a very long time. The last season was really weird to begin with. It felt like an afterthought. The ending didn’t give you closure. It didn’t wrap anything up.

Poor Phaedra became terrified of storms last year in April when I was in Indiana. I have no idea what triggered it, but every time she hears thunder, she starts to shake. This sucks, because hey, it’s Florida, and it rains a lot. I love the thunder. It’s one of the reasons I moved here. So it saddens me that one of my happy experiences terrifies her. I want to fix it and make it better for her.

  1. I don’t know if you follow any dog trainers but I am a huge Cesar Milan advocate and his theory is that if we give them affection & attention during an episode of fear that only encourages them to be fearful. One of my dogs also hates thunder so instead of petting her and holding her I work with her on her obedience during the storm. What this does is it builds her self confidence and redirects the energy into a constructive and positive experience. It actually works because in the beginning I would have to spend an hour or more with her before she settled down. Now, it only takes 20 min and she’s over it.

  2. Hi! I’ve heard good things about the thunder shirt too. A friend of mine, who has lived in Florida her whole life, just takes an old t-shirt and wraps it tightly around her dog then ties it. Maybe an inexpensive or quicker idea since it seems to be raining a lot lately. Thanks for the update. 🙂
