NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Yu Review and Swatches
As soon as I saw that NARS was releasing the Satin Lip Pencils, I knew I had to have one. I fell in love with Yu. Yu is my kind of color, as it’s described as a shocking pink.

Yu is such a beautiful bright pink. While you certainly can apply it directly from the pencil, I do like to use a lip brush for the initial application to give a bit more control. Then I can touch up with the pencil a few hours later. I got through about 4 hours of wear (just sipping on water) before I had to reapply (after eating lunch). It does leave a slight stain on my hand and on my lips, which I like. The texture is very moisturizing to me, and the pigmentation is amazing.
Wearing Yu on my lips. Super pretty!
Why choose the NARS Satin Lip Pencils over the Velvet Matte or the Velvet Gloss, both of which I also adore? This formula is supposed to impart extreme moisture, comfort, and intense color. It’s imbued with pomegranate fruit extract, phospholipids, collagen peptides, hyaluronic acid and Vitamin E. All of those ingredients are purported to give your lips hydration, protection, and make them look fuller.
While I love the Velvet Gloss formula, I think the new Satin Lip formula is my favorite. Yu is a stunning shade and I think it looks amazing on me. After checking out the other shades, I think I really need Lodhi and Luxembourg, too. I like Isola Bella and Floralies but I think they’d be washed out on me.
The only part I really don’t care for with the NARS pencils, of any variety, is that they have to be sharpened, rather than turning up (like the tarte or Hard Candy pencils that I have) to reveal more product. You can always use a lip brush to minimize product loss. Or you can stick them in the freezer for a little while to make them firmer when you sharpen.
I highly recommend the new NARS Satin Lip Pencil in Yu if you’re a fan of bright, shocking pink. It’s a staple for me during the Spring and Summer. It’s the type of shade I want to wear year round, because it makes me happy.
Would you wear Yu? Are there other NARS Satin Lip Pencils you’re interested in?
So beautiful on you! I absolutely adore the color range of these pencils, I can’t wait to pick one up
I bought Lodhi and I’m totally in love! Yu is definitely high on my wish list as well. You’re right: it’s very you! I’m only worried about it melting on me in summer. The texture seems a bit too creamy!
