L to R Madrague I – Nepal – Ashes to Ashes – Brousse II – Mekong

Brousse II
black violet
My Take
deep taupe with violet tones, I was hoping for a smoky purple, so i was sort of let down with this one.

Mekong

My Take
dark velvety brown with subtle gold shimmer. I like this one! I know, I know, it’s a brown, but it’s pretty. I love that it’s deep but you can still see gold glimmers.

My Thoughts
If you’re a NARS fan or a Neutral fan you’re going to want this palette. If you like at least 5 eyeshadows in the palette, I would recommend picking it up. If you like less than 5 I would recommend skipping it. I felt like having both Pandora II and Dogon II was redundant. I would have ditched Dogon II and replaced it with China Doll, Grenadines or Thunderball. I also would have subbed Absynnia for Madrague I. I do love that Lhasa and Bad Behavior are in here. I also adore Bellissima I. Fez is beautiful and I’m not even a shimmery brown fan.

I am hopeful that NARS will release a brights palette that includes shades like Outremer, Daphne, Kauai, Rated R, South Pacific, etc.

What do you think of the NARS The NARSissist Eyeshadow Palette? Love it? Hate it? Let me know!

Pros

  • Good value for the price – 15 eyeshadows for $79 (worth $163)
  • Neutral lovers will love the mix of matte and shimmer
  • Compact and sturdy design, good for travel

Cons

  • If you’re a fan of brights, skip this
  • I dislike that the names aren’t printed inside the palette

  1. Its pretty but reminds me of Urban Decay’s line of Naked palettes which are about $50 a palette with similar color schemes too.

  2. I was originally not that interested in the palette, but your swatches have me intrigued. I don’t own any Nars eyeshadows. Maybe this will have to be my first splurge!

  3. I went to sephora to test it out a few days ago and was drawn away from the pigmentation of them

  4. it’s spendy but i only have 1 of these from a previous duo. I LOVE THIS PALETTE! i’ve used it almost every day for the past few weeks since i bought it. i may… MAY just like this more than my naked 1 and 2… or it ties with naked 1 for my favorite.. haha.

  5. Some really nice colors. The price would be a little steep for me, this would definitely be a splurge.

  6. Love the palette but I have so many of them already in singles and other palettes that I find it unnecessary to purchase it.

  7. I wanted this palette but I have almost all these shades from the time I was going crazy collecting Nars shadows. I guess there’s a lot of mileage left though in selling permanent colors like this.

  8. What a gorgeous palette! Thanks for all the swatches! While I don’t “need” another neutrals palette, this one looks like a good option!

  9. True, hoping to see a bright palette from NARS for summer! I am honestly getting tired from all neutrals…

  10. thanks for doing this review. I have been on the fence about it and wanted it I think because of the hype. Now that I get a better look – I realize that I would shoot myself in the leg if I get another neutral. lol I’ll save my money and pick up some new brushes 😉

  11. I heard so many mixed reviews of this palette. It’s so expensive to gamble with but I think your review swayed me to get it 🙂

    1. Like I mentioned, if you like 5 or more eyeshadows, it is worth it because of what 5 or more eyeshadows would cost you individually from NARS. If you like less, it’s not worth it.

  12. I REALLY love this palette! I had difficulty with a few of the lighter shades, but using primer definitely helped! And I agree – I wish the names were printed on the palette itself!

  13. I find that this palette is really similar to the original naked palette?? Maybe it is just me, but the tones of the colors just seem very close even though there are a few more colors in the Nars one. Put it still looks like a great palette!

      1. I love my naked 1 but don’t use it too often. I also heard that Naked 2 is not as pigmented as the other ones, but I cant say for sure, because I don’t have that one. This Nars Palette looks pretty good especially for its price!

  14. I so agree with you on having the names printed. I write them on labels and stick them to the back. But it would be so much better if NARS would just print them. And Mekong? Insanely gorgeous. And it is so richly pigmented that it stains my arm!

  15. I wish they had a palette with just the bottom row – that was my fave! Great review, Phyrra.
