Manic Panic Vampire Red Hair

It was time for a change, so I decided to update my hair. I wanted burgundy, red and orange, reminiscent of Fall leaves. So I reached for Manic Panic Electric Lava and Vampire Red.

Blue to Red

To get there, was a process.

First, I used One n’ Only Color Fix to remove as much of the blue as possible and some of the purple.

Intermediate Step

Here’s what it looked like after the Color Fix. But, as usual, some of the blue came back, so I had to bleach it. I ended up bleaching it twice. In between I used Redken Extreme Strength Builder Plus.

Electric Lava & Vampire Red

Then I mixed in a tiny bit of Vampire Red with Electric Lava (and I really shouldn’t have, because it went totally red). I used Electric Lava around my hairline (so my fringe, sides of my hair, the bottom layers of my hair in back. I used Vampire Red on the rest of it, part of which was bleached up so it would be a brighter red and the rest I left purple so that it would turn burgundy. You can see if the little blurry picture above.

I love the burgundy and the red together. I think it looks great. I’ll enjoy agetting the orange to show up in a few weeks.

Vampire Red was one of my favorite colors for a long time, so I’m happy to be wearing it again.

What do you think of Vampire Red?

  1. I love the red and burgundy! I have a couple of tubs of Vampire Red I’m working up the courage to use.

  2. I LOVE this. I think this is my favorite on you yet! I so wish I could get away with colors like this where I work. 😉

  3. Looks great, as always! Seems like it was a lot of work! I’ve always loved burgundy hair color, but I’m actually really digging the bright red portion!

  5. I loved using vampire red with midnight blue when I dyed my hair those colors a few years back. They blended into a pretty purple color in the middle where they met, which was totally unintentional but a lovely effect. ^^ I really like the burgandy shade on you especially, and I’m curious on how you’ll incorporate the orange in your hair later. ^^

    1. kiimuu I’ll fade out the bangs as best I can and put orange there. It was supposed to be orange along the hair line, bright red, then the burgundy on top 🙂

  6. Looks awesome on you! I recently really wanted my hair to be red again but so many girls who are into rockabilly/vintage and burlesque have RED hair, and I don’t want to be one of those girls with the red hair + red lips. Its too matchy-matchy and similar to everyone else for me. :/
