I’m porcelain fair with a desaturated, muted neutral cool yellow olive undertone, rosacea, and dry sensitive skin, the combination most makeup brands forget exists. Shade 2.5 neutralized my redness instead of fighting it, blended seamlessly into my neck, and wore beautifully all day with no oxidation, no powder, and no irritation. Worth €53? For fair olives who’ve never found a match: yes. Skip it if you want full opaque coverage or a true matte finish.

Because I have redness from rosacea, I always match my foundations to my neck and chest. If I matched to my face, I would look pink or sunburnt. My skin tone depth sits at the porcelain, fairest end of the spectrum. I’ve previously found my best matches in neutral or neutral muted cool yellow foundations. My past matches include:

Missha 17 BB Cream – Missha discontinued this shade, but it was a porcelain-leaning cool yellow that worked better for me than Missha 13. Missha 13 pulls slightly pink on me and matches Dave perfectly. I think Missha released a new 17, but it leans more pink.
Missha 21 BB Cream – deeper than I prefer, but the correct yellow olive undertone.
LYS LN1 Porcelain Neutral Triple Fix Blurring Skin Tint Foundation Stick – my previous favorite daily wear foundation. It works best with no primer.
Haus Labs 01 Fair Neutral Triclone Skin Tech Concealer – my favorite concealer. It blends into my face beautifully for spot concealing.
Rare Beauty Positive Light Under Eye Brightener in Light – I love using this under my eyes to minimize darkness without feeling like I’m wearing a ton of product.

What is Lisa Eldridge The Foundation?

Lisa Eldridge The Foundation, now officially called the Seamless Skin Foundation, is a self-setting, medium-coverage liquid foundation from celebrity makeup artist Lisa Eldridge. The brand sells it exclusively at lisaeldridge.com for €53 (30ml / 1 fl oz). This foundation line is best known for two things: a shade range that includes true olive shades at every depth, which is very rare in the makeup world, and a second-skin finish that sits between dewy and matte. It has a beautiful soft-focus blurring effect.

What Makes it Special

The hero ingredient in this formula is Filmexel, a biopolymer that forms a flexible mesh on the skin about three minutes after application and blending. This mesh makes the foundation self-setting; it fuses with the skin and locks the pigment in place. Clinical testing shows it lasts a minimum of 12 hours from a single application with no color change or oxidation. So many foundations look good initially but then oxidize or change color.

Lisa Eldridge lists the Seamless Skin Foundation’s coverage as medium. The formula works best in thin, sheer layers that you can build up. I prefer to apply it with my brush first, then go back over it with a damp makeup sponge to soak up any excess product and smooth out the blend.

No Essential Oils

Lisa Eldridge The Seamless Skin Foundation Shade 2.5 is an excellent product for my sensitive skin. The vegan and cruelty-free formula is also free of alcohol, parabens, talc, fragrance, essential oils, nylon 12, microplastics, and D5/D6 silicones. It contains no SPF, so you don’t have to deal with flashback in photos.

I’m grateful it contains no essential oils, because those often make me break out. Lavender almost universally breaks me out, and fragrance often does too. It’s wonderful that the Seamless Skin Foundation forgoes those finicky ingredients.

The Packaging

I would be remiss if I didn’t discuss the packaging with you. It’s not my favorite packaging. I love that it’s solid and glass, but I hate that I have to keep the box it comes in to hold it upright on my vanity because the design can’t stand on its own. I would rather have a bottle that can stand. That said, at least it’s compact and it can fit inside any makeup bag.

Shade 2.5 explained: is it too olive for very fair skin?

No, Lisa Eldridge The Foundation Shade 2.5 is not too olive for very fair skin like mine, provided your fairness comes with a muted cool yellow olive undertone rather than a pink one. On my porcelain neutral cool olive skin, it reads as my skin but calmer, with less redness, not as a visible green cast. I understand the fear, because I had it too, so let me explain what this shade actually is.

Shade 2.5 sits between Shade 2 (pink/rosy) and Shade 3 (golden) in the range, and Lisa built it as a deliberate fair olive: yellow pigment muted with grey and green rather than warmed with peach. In the bottle, and honestly in arm swatches, it looks yellow enough to scare a fair person. That yellow misleads you. Olive shades can’t pull orange the way warm shades do, because they lack the peach-golden pigment skeleton that oxidizes in that direction. On genuinely olive skin, they disappear, and on redness, they quietly neutralize, which is why this shade covered my rosacea flush better than pink or orange shades ever have.

How do I know if I’m Olive?

Here’s the best test I know for whether Lisa Eldridge The Foundation Shade 2.5 is your shade or a mistake. If pink-based fair cool foundations turn pink, faintly lilac, or chalky on you, if warm fair shades turn orange on you, and if your best historical foundation matches have been described as neutral, or neutral with a slightly muted yellow or muted grey quality, then you might be a fair olive! Shade 2.5 will read as your skin tone. If pink cool foundations genuinely match you, 2.5 might look khaki and too deep on you, so Shade 1 (the palest neutral) or Shade 2 (pale pink) might be your match instead.

I know people say to look at the veins in your wrist, but mine don’t help! They look blue, purple, and sometimes teal.

One honest caveat on depth: Lisa Eldridge The Foundation Shade 2.5 runs roughly 1.5 to 2 steps deeper than Shade 1. Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin Enhancing Tint in T1.5 Olive is my exact skin tone and undertone match, while Seamless Skin Foundation 2.5 Olive is a step or two deeper than my skin tone but a perfect undertone match. Lisa’s own team initially thought it might look too true olive on me. It doesn’t, but that’s partly because this formula builds so well. A thin layer of a slightly deeper perfect undertone beats a thick layer of a paler wrong one every time. If you’re the palest person you know, definitely reach out for a shade match.

On my chest, you can see that Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin Foundation in 2.5 runs deeper than my skin tone, but it doesn’t fight against my skin, it works with it.

My Shade Matching Story

I was stuck deciding between Shade 1 and 2.5, so I emailed Lisa’s team the bare-face photo of myself above and described my skin and past foundation matches. They asked me to send additional photos, so I did. They initially thought I would match Shade 1 or need to mix Shade 1 with 2.5.

Because of a customs issue, Lisa Eldridge currently can’t ship the Seamless Skin Foundation and Seamless Skin Enhancing Tint samples to the Netherlands (among several other European countries), which is why I emailed support for shade guidance instead.

From my lips to my ear:

After seeing my photos, the pro makeup artists on staff at Lisa Eldridge said the Seamless Skin Enhancing Tint in T1.5 would match me perfectly (and it turns out they were correct!!!) and that Shade 2.5 in the Seamless Skin Foundation would work well for me. They also promised to help arrange a replacement if it didn’t work. I ordered the Seamless Skin Foundation in Shade 2.5.

If you’re unsure which shade to order, as I was, I highly recommend swatching your favorite foundations along your jawline and sending the helpful staff a photo so they can shade match you.

Half-Face Application

To see how I felt about Lisa Eldridge The Foundation Shade 2.5, I applied it to the right side of my face in the photo above (the side with the nose stud) and left the left side bare. To my eyes, Lisa Eldridge The Foundation Shade 2.5 is the perfect undertone for my skin tone and just ever so slightly deeper. I blended it down my neck in the photos. The right side looks like beautifully blurred skin, with my red overtone from rosacea removed.

How I apply Lisa Eldridge The Foundation Shade 2.5

I go through my simple skin care routine (Tirtir Milk Skin Toner, Illyoon Ceramide Ato Concentrate Cream, and Canmake Mermaid Skin SPF 50) to prep my skin before makeup. Canmake Mermaid Skin SPF 50 works beautifully as a canvas for makeup. I also enjoy using Auric Glow Lust in Morganite, Danessa Myricks Prism FX Hydrating Lotion, and Milk Hydro Grip Hydrating Makeup Primer with Hyaluronic Acid + Niacinamide as primers.

I use my Anisa Pinnacle Foundation Brush for application, followed by a Real Techniques Makeup Sponge to blend out Lisa Eldridge The Foundation Shade 2.5.

Let me save you the time I’ve wasted going down the foundation rabbit hole: there is currently no true dupe for Lisa Eldridge Shade 2.5. I say that as someone who spent over 30 years hunting this exact color, and I’ll show you what comes closest. But first, a warning about the dupe results you’ll find on Google.

After swatching my collection against 2.5, here’s what actually lives nearby, and exactly where each one falls short:

Missha M Perfect Cover BB Cream in 21. The closest color relative I’ve owned: the same grey-green muted beige logic, at roughly the same depth. What it misses: it runs a touch less refined in tone, it’s a BB cream rather than a foundation, it contains SPF, it doesn’t blur, and the wear, coverage, and formula aren’t comparable. If you want to test-drive this color direction for around €10 before spending €53, Missha 21 is the truthful budget answer.

Haus Labs Triclone Concealer in 01 Fair Neutral and LYS Triple Fix Blurring Skin Tint Foundation Stick in LN1. These share the right undertone family, muted and neutral without pink or peach, and they were my best matches before 2.5. What they miss: neither commits to olive. Think of them as “fair olive adjacent” options for anyone who can’t get Lisa Eldridge.

The truth is F2 Olive Foundation is about 2 shades deeper and warmer than Lisa Eldridge 2.5. It’s made more for Light Warm Olive skin than my Neutral Cool Yellow Olive skin. What surprised me was that F2 Olive Concealer is deeper and greener than the foundation! I think concealer should be the same shade or lighter, not deeper and greener.

The Tell That No True Dupe Exists

Read the reviews of the Seamless Skin Foundation Shade 2.5 on Lisa Eldridge’s site and you’ll notice something: every fair olive reviewer describes arriving at this shade from mixing. Green pigment stirred into foundations. Blue drops. Two shades blended across different zones of the face (my own method for years: one shade at the center, a deeper one at the perimeter). When a shade’s entire fan base consists of people who previously had to manufacture it by hand, that’s the market’s way of confirming nobody else sells it.

I mean, I own LA Girl PRO.color Foundation Mixing Pigment in Blue for the sole purpose of color correcting foundations that run too warm for me. I hate mixing, and I’ve had to do it a lot in the past, just peek through my archives.

I tried mixing my two shades of the About Face The Performer Skin-Focused Foundation in F2 Olive with F0 Cool, about 50/50, and the results weren’t terrible, but I’d need to tweak it more to see if I could figure out a better ratio to make it match.

I started cackling like a witch when I put on the Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin Enhancing Tint in T1.5 Olive, because I finally have a product that’s the same depth and undertone as my skin tone and it feels amazing. Wear Test

I wear tested the Lisa Eldridge foundation three different times in three different ways.

Test 1

For the first test, I used Iconic London Prep-Set-Glow Hydrating Setting Spray to hydrate my face and add a glow prior to application. This made me super glowy! By the end of 6 hours I looked like a glowy hot mess that needed to powder or blot.

Test 2

For the second test, I used Lisa Eldridge The Seamless Skin Foundation Shade 2.5 on its own and tested it for 12 hours. At the 6 hour mark it showed significant wear on my chin and my nose, two of the areas I see the most wear, but still looked like skin overall. At the 12 hour mark it needed a touch up, but still looked like my skin.

Test 3

For the third test I used Huda Beauty Easy Bake Loose Baking & Setting Powder in Sugar Cookie and Tirtir Mask Fit Waterproof Setting Spray. It was 32 degrees in Amsterdam (around 90F) and I walked outside for over an hour in the heat. At the 6 hour mark it still looked great. Unfortunately I got sick from the heat. That said, my makeup looked and wore the best when I used this combination and it’s the one I’ll be using going forward.
