About the Too Faced the Chocolate Bar Eye Palette
This beautiful assortment of chocolate-inspired shades were formulated using real cocoa powder. Encased in a playful chocolate bar tin, the rich selection of the perfect browns, neutrals, and little pops of color appeal to every candy lover. 16 shades in a mix of matte and shimmers. Too Faced Co-founder and Creative Director Jerrod Blandino learned of the healing properties of cocoa while getting a chocolate facial in Maui. With Chocolate Bar he created a first-of-its-kind palette that combines the healing benefits of chocolate with richly pigmented, velvety smooth shadows. Chocolate has been used for centuries for its soothing properties and to protect, condition, and heal skin that has been damaged by sun and wind. Studies have shown that the scent of cocoa powder can increase memory and brain power.

  • Try a neutral smoky eye instead of blacks and grays for a sultry look for day or night using these perfectly selected, chocolatey shades.
  • Apply your favorite shades on lid, crease, or as a powder liner on top and bottom lash line for endless possibilities!
  • Cocoa Extract: Provides antioxidant benefits and aids to reduce inflammation in skin.

Chocolate Bar Eye Palette Packaging
This is a metal case shaped like a chocolate bar and it has a magnetic closure. If you’re not careful, the plastic insert can keep the lid from closing properly. Chocolate Bar is elegantly written on the outside of the case, along with Too Faced. The back of the case lists off the amount of eyeshadows and other information about the palette. Inside the palette, there’s a mirror and underneath the mirror is written Chocolate Bar. Unfortunately, there is a little plastic insert that tells you the name of the eyshadows. I would have preferred to see the eyeshadow names printed on the palette itself. When names aren’t written on a palette, I’m constantly referring back to my review to figure out what shades I used. It kind of drives me crazy! Other than that, I like this palette design.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eye Palette Review and Swatches
Row 1 – Gilded Ganache – White Chocolate
Row 2 – Salted Caramel – Marzipan – Semi-sweet
Row 3 – Hazelnut – Creme Brulee – Haute chocolate

I really like that the largest shade in the left 8 shadows is the matte light beige White Chocolate, which is perfect as a base color or blending out other shades or as a matte highlight. This is definitely a shade that is a workhorse color so will get a lot of use.

Too Faced Chocolate Bar Eye Palette Review and Swatches
Row 1 – Milk Chocolate – Black Forest Truffle – Triple Fudge
Row 2 – Strawberry Bon Bon – Candied Violet – Amaretto
Row 3 – Cherry Cordial – Champagne Truffle

In the right eight eyeshadows, the largest shade is Champagne Truffle, and it’s a great ‘glowy’ shade that makes a good eye brightener or inner v shade to me.

All colors in the Chocolate Bar Eye Palette are swatched on Too Faced Shadow Insurance. All swatch pictures taken with my Samsung Galaxy Note II (not my Canon Rebel t3i DSLR, since I don’t have that or my lights here in Indiana). The light is not my normal daylight bulbs, it’s a much warmer light. I’ve included Flash and No Flash photos to try to give you a better sense of the colors. All product photos were taken with my DSLR.
Color is very subjective. These are my color descriptions and thoughts on the colors.

Value
I’d say the value on this set is pretty good. While 14 of the eyeshadows are .03 each (instead of the standard .05), 2 of the colors are .10, meaning that you’re getting .62 oz of shadow for $49. By comparison MAC refill pans are currently $10 for .05 oz, so for $50 you could only get .25 oz of product, making the $49 for .62 a much better deal.

While Strawberry Bon Bon and Milk Chocolate had to be built up more to get them to show color, they weren’t terrible, they just weren’t as silky as White Chocolate, Salted Caramel, Semi-Sweet and Triple Fudge. Looking at Strawberry Bon Bon, I thought it would be more pigmented than it ended up. Gilded Ganache and Black Forest Truffle are lovely, even if they are a touch powdery.

Marzipan was quite a surprise when swatched! It’s so pretty! I love this light rose gold shade. I didn’t expect Candied Violet to be a smoky violet, and I didn’t expect Black Forest Truffle to be a smoky wine. They’re lovely. Creme Brulee, being  a gold, definitely has me in love with it. I also really like White Chocolate and Salted Caramel, as they’re great mattes.

Many shimmery browns just go muddy on me, so I find shades like Hazelnut, Haute Chocolate and Amaretto difficult to wear, though I think most people will love them. Thankfully there are a lot of matte and semi-matte shades in here, which makes the palette a lot easier to wear from my perspective. Shades like Salted Caramel, Triple Fudge, and White Chocolate are great for working with the other shades in here. I keep thinking Sugarpill Poison Plum would be awesome with Candied Violet!

If you are a neutrals fan, you will love this palette! The quality overall is great. The shades all work well together, and the unexpected Candied Violet, Cherry Cordial and Black Forest Truffle are a lot of fun.

Finally, this palette really does smell like chocolate. It smells delicious and the scent makes me happy. I like the idea of the added benefits of the antioxidants from the chocolate.

What do you think of Too Faced The Chocolate Bar Eye Palette? Love it? Need it? Too sweet for you? Let me know!

  1. I’ve asked it for my birthday can’t wait to try it
Great review and I love the fact that you gave us some colors combinations but I have a question: What do you mean by using a color for contour because I don’t think it’s to contour the face haha

  2. Hello. Thank you for this great review!!

The Candied Violet, Strawberry Bon Bon are both a huge dissapointment. the VIOLET is graish. You can hardly guess it’s violet. and the pink…you cannot see it on my skin. I guess as dark as ones skin it the shdows show more!!!

  3. Late to the party, but I just got this palette last week after debating about it for months, and I LOVE it! Even stuff I thought I’d never wear, like the Candied Violet, Black Forest Truffle and Cherry Cordial, I’m wearing like crazy! I think probably the only color I’m not going to be too wild about is Salted Caramel (too orangey for me), but I can always overlay it with Creme Brulee or Champagne Truffle to try and make it work. The thing is, I’m experimenting with all sorts of combos, and I’m really loving them! And the chocolate smell starts my day off with a happy start!

  4. The colors are very pretty. I have heard of Too Faced but have never tried their palettes. I have to say that the price is prohibitive for me though I am sure that it’s worth every cent!

  5. I think all these shadows are beautiful, but I think that most multitasking shadows are champagne truffle as a face highlight & triple fudge for the brows. I also LOVE the smell of all these shadows.

  6. I JUST got this today – I keep taking it out of the box, looking, swatching and putting it back in the box LOL. I can’t wait to use it tomorrow!

  7. I bypassed this palette because I was disappointed with the Too Faced Return of Sexy palette – it had great reviews, but for me it was fallout central and a lot of the shades were quite sheer. I’d love this palette if I thought it would be as high quality as the Urban Decay naked shadows, but I know I’ll never use it if it’s sheer or difficult to work with. Although my brain keeps saying “But you need this, it’s chocolate!!!”

    1. Well, if it helps, I was reading some other reviews when I was debating if I should get it or not. And one of the reviewers took a poll of “Chocolate Bar vs. UD Nakeds (1, 2, or 3)”. And overwhelmingly, the votes went to Chocolate Bar for a bunch of reasons. One, let’s face it – the chocolate smell! Also, the colors give a good pay off and are long lasting with primer. Very little fall out. Plus, the Chocolate Bar has the four unexpected colors (Candied Violet, Strawberry Bon Bon, Black Forest Truffle and Cherry Cordial) that you wouldn’t expect to find in a basic neutral palette, while still giving us plenty of neutrals to work with in the other 12 colors. And last – and this surprised me, I won’t lie – a lot of the ladies said that the chocolate bar was more versatile, there were more choices. They said that you’d have to buy more than one of the UD palettes to get this many “neutral” choices. Some felt that with some of UD’s Naked palettes, many of the colors were too similar in one palette.

      Hope that helps!

  8. I’ve only had it for a day and I love it already. I actually bought this over Naked 3 since it had more diversity in colors. Also, chocolate. Just doing my makeup this morning and smelling chocolate made me happy!

This is my first time on your blog and it’s great! Thank you for posting different color combinations. Not many (if any?) blogs do that and it’s inspiring to see how many different looks you can come up with.

    Anyway, great review!

  9. Finally seeing a review and swatches. I didn’t think I needed this palette but now I do. *sigh*

  10. I so want this palette! I need it like a bullet in my head- I have loads of neutrals, but I am all about warm toned browns! And I will buy it even though I do not need it soo much.. 🙂 this palette scremed to me from first artickle I have seen and it is really rare I actually experience this! They better release it on 19th DEC, right on 12; 01am:) I will be stocker on their website! and they better release it in Canada too!!! 🙂 great review and awesome swatches!

  11. Drat! It’s sold out at Sephora….I LOVE LOVE LOVE and need this! I think I’d get this for my daughter too (who is better w/ neutrals). Thanks for the great review…….drooling!!!!

  12. I have been checking Sephora, Ulta, and Too Faced every day since I saw reviews on this palette because I LOVE it and want it! I am a huge fan of browns, both shimmer and matte, and I love TF’s eyeshadow formula so this is a no-brainer for me! Also, Candied Violet just looks stunning! Thank you for your review and swatches, lady! 🙂

  13. i have the ud naked 1 palette (which i think is pretty similar to this palette with the shimmery browns/golds) and i was wondering if you think it’s worth it to get this palette too? i don’t think i can say no to chocolate eyeshadow though!

    1. so what appeals to me about this palette are all the mattes. I find shimmery browns extremely difficult to wear with my skintone, but the mattes are fabulous. I also love the golds, burgundies and purple, etc. I personally didn’t buy the Naked 1 because I didn’t think it would be flattering on me. To me, this palette has more variety because of the mattes / burgundies / etc

      1. yes that’s really true, i think urban decay’s downfall sometime is there’s too much shimmer and not enough mattes, which i’m starting to really get into. especially these gorgeous mattes. okay i think i’m justified getting this palette thanks for your review and swatches! 🙂

  14. The colors look great! And the styling and the names of the shades are really fun 🙂 I am not a fan of chocolate-scented beauty products though. Chocolate in my belly, yes please! On my face? No thanks.

  15. i think it would be great palette for someone that’s just starting out in their makeup collection and wants a neutral palette or a huge neutrals fan. i do like the swatches of black forest truffle, cherry cordial and champagne truffle but don’t think the colors in the palette on the whole are unique enough for me to scream “gotta have it!” but maybe it’s because i prefer palettes with a few neutrals and the rest a nice balance of color such as their xmas edition of a few of my favorite things (which i love!). i do love my chocolate soleil bronzer tho which also has chocolate in it and smells delicious. while i do think the name of the palette is clever and the form of the packaging appropriate, i don’t think they quite pulled off the look in execution. it seems kinda clunky and unattractive to me.

    1. I can see your point! I know I prefer a good mix of mattes and shimmers, one or two neutrals and lots of brights, but it’s rare to find that.

  16. Great review!! This is my dream palette. I so need this iml but I am so torn. In your honest opinion, which palette would you prefer this Too Faced Chocolate bar palette or UD Naked 3??

    1. Honestly it depends on your color preference. I find shimmering browns (and browns in general) hard for me to wear. I find the rosy shades in the Naked 3 easy to wear.

  17. I saw this online at sephora but not in stock yet and today I went on senhora and they took it down wtf
