Urban Decay On the Run Detour Mini Palette Review

The UD On the Run Detour Mini Palette was a Detour into sadness for me. 4 lovely colors and 4 safe, dull brown shades that don’t feel like a detour away from the norm. I was honestly so disappointed by half of this palette being bland and neutral as fuck. The Urban Decay Born to Run Palette (see my UD Born to Run Palette Review and 20+ Born to Run Tutorials for Makeup Inspiration) has enough neutrals that the ‘mini’ palettes should not be 1/2 neutrals. I’m resentful AF that Escape and Confidential are in this palette. I would have loved to have seen Dash have teal blue iridescence to it.

The UD On the Run Detour Mini Palette reminds me a lot of the UD Beached Palette.  Plunge and 16th Street are in both palettes. The color scheme for both is very neutral with a hint of yellow tones and teal blue for summer. Blaze (metallic peach with a pink shift from the Beached palette) would fit in nicely with Detour (deep mustard yellow matte).

Switchback and Plunge are my two favorite shades in this palette because I love teal hues. I also like Dash and 16th Street. Off the Grid is a nice base shade for me. However, I didn’t feel like the quality of this palette was as lovely as the single eyeshadow formula by UD.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I wanted to love the UD On the Run Detour Mini Palette. It has a few pretty colors, but I found it lacking. This is your palette if you love neutrals with just a pop of color. If you prefer more colorful palettes, skip this one.

I’ve had several friends tell me that these types of palettes are gateways into color for them. So I definitely recommend this to people who want to try color but are still afraid of it.

What do you think of the Urban Decay On the Run Detour Mini Palette? Is it a must-have or a skip for you?

  1. Oooh Plunge is GORGEOUS! I like Dash too but you are right, too many similar colors for one palette. Perfect if you tend to stick with these type of shades but I prefer a bit more color.

  2. My first though when I looked at this pallet was…. love these colors that’s me. And then I read the line below…………

” If you’re someone who loves neutrals with just a pop of color, this is the palette for you.”

I am trying to spread my wings and go with bolder colors but old habits are hard to break

  3. i love urban decay and the paw prints are so cute. I love that it has everything I need for a busy day.

  4. Can’t we have at least ONE palette that isn’t at least 1/2 neutrals from a brand that isn’t Huda Beauty? C’mon! I share your disappointment with this one.

  5. Funny that you mentioned The Beached Palette because the first thing I thought was that they were similar. I’ll skip this one b/c I love my Beached palette and I love it.

  6. I’m burning out on all the orange tones I’m finding in my latest palettes. I think this could be a great palette for someone who loves orange but it’s not for everyone.

  7. Those are the perfect swatches for a CF brand! I really love Switchback and Plunge, but the other shades, while pretty, are quite dupable.

  8. NOt my favorite palette either. I see orange browns and lots of them and im not interested in those colors ever. lol
