Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette Swatches and Thoughts

I swatched these eyeshadows on bare skin.

Urban Decay High Swatch

High
champagne shimmer with micro-glitter
My Thoughts
pink champagne shimmer with micro glitter. This would make a great inner lid shade. It might also be nice as a cheek highlighter on some skintones. It could also work as an inner corner highlight too. ETA – This shade had a bit of fallout on me but applied beautifully.

Urban Decay Dirtysweet Swatch

Dirtysweet
medium bronze
My Thoughts
light warm gold with orange undertones shimmer. I love these sort of golds with bronzey tones. They’re perfect lid shades.

Urban Decay Radar Swatch

Radar (from Vice 2)
metallic taupe with iridescent micro-glitter
My Thoughts
mid-tone metallic brown with subtle golden micro glitter. This is not really a me color but I think it would be good as a crease for people who like shimmery brown crease shades.

Urban Decay Armor Swatch

Armor (from Vice 1)
metallic silver taupe with tonal sparkle
My Thoughts
mid-tone cool grey taupe with silver micro glitter, really gorgeous. I really like this and think it would make a nice lid or crease shade. ETA – This shade had a bit of fallout on me but applied beautifully.

Urban Decay Slanted Swatch

Slanted
light metallic grey
My Thoughts
cool-toned metallic silver satin I love this color and would use it on the lid.

Urban Decay Dagger Swatch

Dagger
medium charcoal with micro shimmer
My Thoughts
cool-toned charcoal grey with soft satin sheen. This would be a great outer C shape color or liner.

Urban Decay Black Market Swatch

Black Market (from Vice 1)
jet black satin
My Thoughts
soft slightly smoky black with brown tones and subtle satin sheen. Perfect for making a smoky look, using as liner, or a gradient look.

Urban Decay Smolder Swatch

Smolder
deep plum taupe
My Thoughts
blackened taupe with plum undertones and subtle satin sheen. While the pigmentation of this color is spot on the purple is so subtle as to barely be seen. I wish this was a true purple instead of a taupe. I thought this would be my favorite of the entire palette. This would probably be gorgeous as a liner color as well as if used for a gradient.

Urban Decay Password Swatch

Password
cool taupe matte
My Thoughts
deep grey taupe matte, slightly harder in texture. I’m not really in love with this one but I like that it’s matte. ETA – This shade blended out ok on top of Combust and Armor.

Urban Decay Whiskey Swatch

Whiskey
rich brown matte
My Thoughts
deep brown matte. I feel like this guy doesn’t belong in this palette. It’s a basic brown matte.

Urban Decay Combust Swatch

Combust
soft pink taupe
My Thoughts
light dirty beige pink matte. This would make a great transition / blending out shade. If you’re into doing dome shape looks like I have been, this would be a great shade to start with for a subtle daytime look. ETA – Having worn this shade in a look, it was surprisingly difficult to build up to where I wanted it.

Urban Decay Thirteen Swatch

Thirteen
light beige satin
My Thoughts
semi-sheer pale beige pink satin. I like this as a highlighter on the face or eyes. ETA – This shade was too subtle for my taste as an inner corner highlight.

What I love about this palette is that it has a lot of mattes and satins in it. What makes it awesome is that it’s full of cool-toned shades. There are so many warm toned palettes out there that we need more cool toned ones! What disappointed me was the lack of a true purple. Password was harder in texture for me, so not the normal smooth buttery UD formula. Thirteen was semi-sheer, so not the normal smooth formula either. Overall though, it’s a great palette if you’re in the market for a cool toned neutral palette.

People keep asking me, this or the Kat Von D Innerstellar palette? My initial thoughts are there are 4 out of 12 colors in the Kat Von D I won’t use (4 nearly identical brown shades), vs 2 out of 12 in the Naked Smoky (2 brown shades) that I won’t use, so Naked Smoky wins for me. See the Kat Von D Innerstellar swatches here.

  1. Love the smoky colours, but I am not sure they needed Whiskey in there – far too warm and brownish – that is in their other palettes. I wish they had included an olive or Khaki colour instead. There are also a few colours that are a bit too similar to each other – Dagger, Smoulder and Black Market. Anyway I will await the reviews. Lots of lovely colours.

    1. I agree, I think Whiskey was definitely not needed. A khaki or olive would have been great! I do like Black Market, it’s a great black for smoky looks. Yes Smolder doesn’t have enough purple. Dagger I like.

    2. Tested out colors today. I did a look with Combust as the base, High on the lid, Armor at the inner and outer corner and lower lid, Password in the crease, Thirteen to highlight and Black Market smudged at the lash line. I ended up experiencing glitter fallout – either from High or Armor. Combust was a pain to build up and apply evenly. Password, since I layered it on top of Combust and Armor, was ok.

  2. Well, I am bummed about Smolder too. I was thinking it was going to be more plummy. I do like the new shades that look different from other UD shades! I’ll probably grab this. I hope someday they will do a mostly purple Naked palette! 😉

  3. I’m surprised how dark Smolder is. I can’t wait until this is available. Cool, smokey and not glittery!

  4. Have I been asleep when this came out? lol I really like this palette and you did awesome swatches. I really appreciate that they included a bunch matte colors here! xoxo, Sissi
