The Ordinary Serum Foundation Pale Foundation Swatches

I wanted to share The Ordinary Serum Foundation Pale Foundation Swatches. Here are the two Ordinary Serum foundations I purchased 1NS and 1N swatched next to other pale foundations that I own.
Idun & Paula’s Choice PR samples. Everything else purchased by me.

Pale Foundation Swatches

  • The Ordinary Serum in 1NS – pale peach, almost matches my face, darker than my neck. This is medium coverage when applied with the Ordinary primer. (vegan)
  • The Ordinary Serum in 1N – pale peach, slightly more orange and darker than 1NS. (vegan)
  • Idun Minerals Liquid Foundation in Jorunn – ultra pale neutral, a perfect match for my skin. It’s light-medium coverage.
  • FOM Facial Enhancer in Light – pale neutral, this actually works really well and shade adjusts to a wide variety of skintones. It’s sheer coverage.
  • Tarte Clay Stick Foundation in Fair Neutral – pale warm peach. I feel this is medium to full coverage, but you can sheer it out. (vegan)
  • Buxom Show Some Skin in Tickle the Ivory – pale peach. This is nice and hydrating for dry skin. It’s light-medium coverage.
  • Kat Von D Lock-It Foundation in Light 41 Neutral – ultra pale neutral, a perfect match for my skin. It’s full coverage.  (vegan)
  • Anastasia Stick Foundation in Warm Alabaster –  pale yellow-peach. It’s medium-full coverage.  (vegan)
  • Wander Beauty Stick Foundation in Fair – warm peach. It’s medium coverage.
  • Natasha Denona Face Glow in 10 – pale peach. It’s light-medium coverage.
  • Paula’s Choice Serum Foundation in 0 – pale peach. It’s medium coverage.  (vegan)
  • Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus in Porcelain – pale warm peach. It’s medium-full coverage.  (vegan)

Thoughts on Pale Foundations

The Kat Von D Lock It foundation, Anastasia Stick foundation and Paula’s Choice Serum foundation seem to be best for normal to oily skin.

The Wet n’ Wild Photo Focus foundation seems to be best for normal skin.

The Wander Beauty Stick Foundation seems to be best for very, very dry skin.

The Natasha Denona Face Glow foundation, Buxom Show Some Skin foundation, Tarte Clay Stick foundation, Fom Facial Enhancer, Idun Minerals Liquid foundation and the Ordinary Serum foundations seem best for normal to dry skin.

For the past several years my skin has been very dry. However, now that I’ve switched my skincare routine and I’m no longer over exfoliating with BHAs, I’ve noticed that my skin is less dry and able to tolerate a wider variety of foundation formulas.

I currently find the Ordinary Serum foundation very comfortable to wear, but I absolutely must use it with the Ordinary High-Spreadability Fluid Primer, which is a a light, non-oily surface hydrator. It helps the  Serum foundation to adhere to my skin. I also set it with the Milani Prep Set Go Illuminating Face powder and Milani Make it Dewy Setting spray.

I love the Buxom Show Some Skin foundation, Natasha Denona Face Glow foundation and Idun Minerals liquid foundation formulas, as they’re all hydrating and comfortable.

The best color matches for me, without adding white, are Kat Von D Lock-It foundation in Light 41 Neutral, Idun Minerals Liquid foundation in Jorunn and FOM Facial Enhancer in Light.

I’ve been able to use FOM Facial Enhancer in Light on a wide variety of my friends who are fair skinned.

To make the Kat Von D Lock-It foundation comfortable, I have to mix it with Nyx Opalescent Pro Mixer. To make everything else a better match for my skintone, I have to mix with Nyx White Pro Mixer.

I should have my Ordinary Serum Foundation wear test video for you on Wednesday, as I know a lot of you were looking forward to that.

Have you tried any of these foundations? What’s your current favorite foundation & skin type?

  1. Hi,

I have super sensitive fair skin, love all your posts! Would you be able to recommend me any foundations? My best match colour wise so far has been NARS tinted moisturiser in Terre Neuve, the shade and formula were perfect but my skin reacted to something in it, probably the spf and made it burn so i can’t use it 🙁 Could you recommend anything similar shade wise for me to try? Am having so much trouble. Previously I loved Max Factor Xperience foundation in light ivory, perfect colour very fair neutral with a tiny bit of pink in. Its discontinued and other max factor light ivory foundations are too dark, NARS mont blanc is too dark and goes weirdly orange. A lot are also way too yellow and too dark.

Thank you, any help much appreiciated!

  2. Hi there, I would love to know which of the two between nars tinted moisturizer and buxome weightless foundation has higher coverage, lasts longer, looks more natural, and is better on oily skin. Thank you so much for all the help. Your demos and swatches are really amazing

  3. I really appreciate swatches of pale foundations, I try to post my on as much as possible on reddit PalePUA. My current go-to is the Missha Tension Tact “tone up glow” in #13 and the A’pieu concealer in #1 “Frozen”. Pretty budget friendly alternatives that works well on an everyday basis. If I want more coverage I use my trusty Illamasqua Skin Base Foundation in shade #2 (#1 is pure White and works amazing as a mixer). I did try the Idun foundation when it came out as it is a Swedish brand and that is where I’m from, but it sat strangely on my skin! I might try it again with other products underneath. Do you have any suggestions on how to make the Idun foundation look natural and melt into the skin? I currently use Clinique Mineral Sunscreen for face spf 50 and sometimes use The Ordinary’s “high spreadability” primer as a base before concealer/cushion and powder!

    1. Hi Antonia, so happy to hear it! The Idun Minerals did not set well for me with most silicone based primers. It works best for me with Too Faced Hangover Primer. I haven’t tried it with my Ordinary High Speadability Fluid primer but it might work well too. I’ll have to check into the cruelty free status of the products you recommended, thanks for the recommendations. My current favorite foundation is the Ordinary Serum foundation with the high spreadability primer since it lasts very well for me. I did a wear test and review here 🙂 https://phyrra.net/the-ordinary-serum-foundation-review.html

  4. Thanks girl, I love these posts! I was thinking that you’d love the Ordinary Spreadability Primer, so glad you do!-I can use it if I use a really small amount, more as a moisturizer dabbing it on in certain areas and less like a primer-it’s a bit heavy on me if I were to apply it as a primer but I’d definitely like to test out the Serum Foundation, I am able to do a foundation routine with more of a glow than before! I am no longer using an AHA/BHA face wash, it was overdrying and actually irritating my skin more than it was helping, and when you irritate/overdry combo/oily skin it just gets more oily..I have been working with Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer-you can use it in a lot of ways,(concealer too!) so I’m still trying to perfect it-one way is using the top of the Sensual Skin Primer(you press it and product comes up and you can mix, add more on the face etc) The Sensual Skin Primer you would love, it’s very moisturizing but it doesn’t make my skin oily…I would like to try the KA Powder foundation now that I have more brushes. The Etheralist is a liquid luminous foundation that you may like too-it definitely would be good for dryer skin types too(Shade 1 is a great pale girl fair neutral shade in all the KA foundations-the ), I’d like to add a liquid too- definitely one Natasha Denona foundation-I’m glad that you love the Glow! Thanks for swatching it! There is another one in a white tube that is called Photo something I think?-her line has some products geared towards combo to oily-there is a primer for the Glow I noticed and a different primer that . …Charlotte Tilbury’s Magic Foundation I’ve seen swatches of and the fairest shade, shade 1, is a good fair neutral..I love how you compare them and share how they turn out on you, because I can really see the tones! xoxo Oh, Wayne Goss just mentioned a Cinema Secrets foundation that he came back to after trying it a while back(which I tend to do with some products) I’ll go back to the post and get the exact name and share it in the group but I mention it because he noted that it has a great shade range from super fair to deep and it has great coverage-

  5. Thank You so much for this review! I have been waiting so long to get both the Serum and Coverage Ordinary in 2 different shades to do my own review and looking forward to it! This looks like it can be a winner and at this price, super affordable too! It looks wonderful on you! Thanks again!
