About oVertone
We are color fanatics, and we are busy people.  Busy people who understand busy people who are also color fanatics. We know what it’s like. Wake up, get to the salon, (or go to your bathroom sink) and sit for a while to have GORGEOUS color that puts a smile on your face and a spring in your step.  You’re the happiest happy you’ve ever happied. That is, until you have to wash your hair. You’ve held out as long as you could, but there’s nothing to be done anymore. And then, well, your color fades. And two weeks later, to keep your vibrancy, you repeat the whole process. Your hair becomes dry and faded and sad from all the time spent dying. On top of that, think of all the time you’ve wasted traveling to the salon! Meet oVertone – our color-keeping conditioning secret. It’s a two-parter: use the Daily Conditioner whenever you would normally use conditioner, and make a once-a-week spa date for yourself and Go Deep – our hyper-hydrating extra color boost treatment.  Our packaging is made from cosmetic grade sustainable materials (post consumer recycled and post industrial resin plastics), our conditioners contain over 70% organic material, and our products are NEVER tested on animals. As a company, we are also committed to giving back to organizations we believe make the world a better place.

Purple Hair Dream Hair

oVertone comes in the following colors – purple, teal, blue, pink, red and orange. In addition to those colors, each color comes in 3 strengths – pastel, vibrant and extreme. I am, of course, a fan of the extreme.

I received the Extreme Daily Conditioner, Extreme Daily Travel Conditioner (I don’t see this on the site currently, and their sample bottles are out of stock), and the Extreme Weekly treatment.

I don’t wash my hair daily (I wash about every 7 to 8 days right now). I’m also using Pravana Vivid Violet and Wild Orchid in my hair, which last longer for me than Manic Panic, Punky Color, Special Effects or anything else.

The Daily conditioner is nice but the Extreme Weekly Treatment is my true love. OMG. Let me explain why.

The Extreme Weekly treatment does deposit color. It will not lighten hair (I have to say this because I don’t want anyone to misunderstand). It is not a bleach, it is not damaging.

While this is not a dye, it does help refresh your color. I mix the Extreme Weekly treatment with either Phyrra’s Pretty Little Elixir Vegan Hair Masque or with Cocoa Pink Argan Therapy Creme conditioner. I do this because I absolutely love my Hair to have a specific scent to it (Black Chocolate Raspberries or Cinderella’s Carriage. YUM!).

According to the oVertone founders, the reason oVertone is better than dye plus conditioner is that the Vibrant and Extreme lines contain between 3xs and 15x the pigment you would end up with when you mix semi-permanent dye and regular conditioner.  And with pastels, the pigmentation is perfect and completely takes the guesswork out of things. You can, of course, mix 2 or more colors of oVertone, too, to match your custom color perfectly.

The Extreme Weekly treatment has been amazing for me. On my roots, which are such a dark brown that people mistake my hair color for black, it will deposit dark purple color, slightly tinting my hair. This means I can go longer in between coloring. I’ve just been using this on my hair, even though I do have 2 different shades of purple. I will probably pick up the pink Extreme mask for the bottom of my hair at some point, but Purple has been working nicely with Violet and Wild Orchid.

The last time I colored my hair, I only did it because I had such extreme root growth (11 or 12 weeks worth), that I needed to bleach the roots and apply Pravana Vivid Violet to them. The rest of my hair color looked pretty good.

I highly recommend the Extreme Weekly treatment. I use it every other time I wash my hair now.

I love this line so much that I’ve partnered with oVertone to give away 2 sets of products! 2 winners will receive a set of oVertone in the color of their choice!

  1. I think it’s great, I’m forever changing extreme colors and my dirty blonde roots give me away too quickly. I’ve tried color booster/extending products and nothing helps. For you to love it with your intense coloring then I’m sold! Thanks for this awesome chance!

  2. I’ve been looking for something safe like this to cover and color my hair. I’ve colored my hair less than 10 times in my life and I haven’t put any color in it for over a year & a half. I decided to just let the sparse gray grow out naturally but now I want to play around with some color. So this is like a temporary color that washes out I assume, but will I have to bleach first? Or does it cover gray real good? My hair is a real dark brown with white only at the temples & scattered in one strand throughout & kind of look like highlights.

    1. This is not a hair color product. This is a hair mask / hair conditioner that helps to keep your color fresh by depositing pigment onto your colored hair.

For a safe dye that will not damage your hair, I recommend Pravana, Manic Panic, Special Effects or Punky Color.

For deposit only color (which is everything I mentioned above) you will have to bleach to get bright results.

If you have only colored your hair less than 10 times, I highly recommend going to see a stylist who can color your hair for you.

  3. Okay so Im a little confused I think. Does this system just refresh color or does it actually do the coloring itself? Like, If I were to put it on my normal colored hair would it leave color behind? Ive been wanting to experiment with unnatural colors for a while but HATE dyeing my hair with the exception of the few blonde peekaboo chunks I have… would this color those?

    1. Ok so this deposits color onto your hair to help refresh color. It will not dye your entire head of hair, but it will refresh a color. If you put it on normal colored hair it will leave a slight tint behind. I would not use this in place of color. Instead, I would use something like Pravana or Manic Panic to color your hair initially, then, whenever you wash your hair, use this to help extend the life of your color.

  4. Yay! I’ve been waiting for this review from you. My hair is maroon so I am going to mix red + purple pastels.

  5. This looks really interesting! Is there any chance you can post the ingredients? I looked all over their site and couldn’t find any ingredient listing or a way to contact them outside of social media. The ingredients are really critical for me, as there are certain things I avoid.

      1. Thank you so so so much! I read the ingredient lists with increasing excitement, thinking “I might actually be able to use these!”, until I hit the amodimethicone in each and let out an audible groan. Sigh. They look so awesome and promising, but since I follow the curly girl hair routine, I avoid sulfates and any (sili)cones. Argh! Oh well, guess I will just keep adding my bright colors to my own conditioners. (sob)

But thank you so very much for finding out the ingredients, as I was completely stymied in trying to find them myself. 🙂

        1. Hi Sarsie! I TOTALLY feel your curly pain, having curly hair myself. I find these conditioners to be really amazing, hydrating, and non-drying/damaging. We have some natural hair users as well who find it similarly awesome! We offer a 100% money back guarantee if you decide it doesn’t work for you. Let me know if I can be of any assistance.

  6. I have got to try this line, now that I have a pink and blue streak in my blonde. I can’t believe how fast they fade!! Your hair stayed so vibrant in between the last colorings!

  7. I am going to get the nerve to dye my hair, I am! I can’t pluck the grey all out anymore, and I want to try a fun color, at least on part of my hair.

  8. Ok, I am so jealous that you only have to wash your hair every 7/8 days!!! I can just about make 3 days. Sigh.

    1. I had to train my hair. Originally I washed it every day and when I moved to California my stylist told me I was killing my hair. She also taught me about dry shampoo. So I learned to stretch it out.

      1. Dang, I must just have an oily head! I’ve been trying to train it for about 5 months, even with dry shampoo. I’m going to implement boot camp style training now! What dry shampoo do you use? (I use the Batiste max volume)
