New Makeup Geek Pigments Review & Swatches

Makeup Geek Cruelty Free Loose Eyeshadow Pigments Review and Swatches

Hi there! Today I’ve got the new Makeup Geek Pigments for you. Makeup Geek just released 10 new shades and they’re all beautiful. I applied these differently than I normally do my swatches. I usually use Gosh Primer but today I used Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy for my pigment swatches.

Price
$6.99 for 2 grams of product per pigment jar. Makeup Geek is proudly cruelty-free.

New Year’s Eve
Light Gold Reflective Glitter

Makeup Geek New Years Eve Loose Pigment
My Take
I Love this! It’s a peach-beige base with gold reflective glitter. The closest thing I have to this in my collection is probably Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Pure Nude. It’s beautiful. I love it!

Utopia
An Antiqued Gold Glitter

Makeup Geek Utopia Loose Pigment
My Take
Chunky gold glitter on a brown base. Comparable to MAC Reflects Antique Gold. My least favorite because of how chunky it is.

Sweet Dreams
Light fleshed toned beige pink with slight shimmer

Makeup Geek Sweet Dreams Loose Pigment
My Take
Light peachy beige with subtle gold shimmer. Comparable to MAC Naked. Makes me think of the Annie Lennox song.

Liquid Gold
True Metallic Gold

Makeup Geek Liquid Gold Loose Pigment
My Take
This reminds me of Fyrinnae Aztec Gold. Rich, deep gold with green undertones. I Love this color on my eyes!

Afterglow
Soft Shimmery Champagne

Makeup Geek Afterglow Loose Pigment
My Take
Midtone beige-champagne with gold shimmer. This reminds me a bit of UD Midnight Cowboy without any chunky glitter.

Insomnia
A Duochromed Teal/Bronze

Makeup Geek Insomnia Loose Pigment
My Take
Rich chocolate base with strong turquoise green flash. Comparable to MAC Blue Brown. It rubs down to a brown with red undertones. A lot of companies have a color like this, such as Too Faced Label Whore or Petals to the Metal Exotic or MAC Club or Lime Crime Dragon Scales or wet’N’wild Comfort Zone Definer or L’Oreal Intrepid or Sigma Beauty Spy… I can’t even recall the rest of the names / brands / dupes. Still, it’s a fun color.

Birthday Wish
Shimmery Light Gold Peach

Makeup Geek Birthday Wish Loose Pigment
My Take
Pretty peach with gold flash. I do find myself wishing this was a tad brighter or the gold was a bit stronger, but it’s definitely pretty.

Plum with mauve tones.

Prince Charming
Metallic Blue Grey

My Take
Silver on a charcoal base with blue tones

Makeup Geek Cruelty Free Loose Eyeshadow Pigments Review and Swatches

My favorites are New Year’s Eve, Insomnia, Liquid Gold, Paparazzi, and Prince Charming. I don’t really care for Utopia because of its texture. The rest were easy to work with. Insomnia is a fun color because it’s almost like 3 colors in one. The more you blend it down, the more the red tones become apparent. I love the particular shade of gold for Liquid Gold. For someone with blue-green eyes like mine, it makes them pop.

I got normal wear with the MUG pigments. I wore them on both TFSI and Jesse’s Girl eyeshadow primers all day. They didn’t crease or have fallout for the shades I tested for wear. They’ve got a wonderful texture and apply beautiful and blend easily. Utopia was the only one that gave me trouble.

I felt it was a little odd to launch a collection with 3 colors so similar – New Years Eve, Sweet Dreams and Afterglow, but New Years Eve is a MUST HAVE to me. This is why I’m giving away New Years Eve, Liquid Gold, and Insomnia in my 5 Year Blogaversary Giveaway. (If you haven’t entered yet, you should! You can win MUG and other prizes!)

Sugarpill, Mac, Makeup Geek, Price Per Ounce Comparison

Makeup Geek did a breakdown of the price per ounce, which I love!

This proves, once again, that Sugarpill is a fantastic deal for the price. It also proves that Makeup Geek products are a very good deal for the price, too. I’m sure you can tell from  my jar shots above, but in case you can’t, the Makeup Geek pigment jars are stuffed full, much like a Fyrinnae jar. So you’re not getting a half-empty jar of product. They have no sifter, which I’m fine with, but I know some people dislike.

I’m very happy to see Marlena making pigments along with her pressed eyeshadows and lipsticks. I think Makeup Geek has done a wonderful job putting out quality products at an affordable price. I’m so happy that she is cruelty-free, too.

What do you think of the Makeup Geek pigments? Which is your must-have shade?

  1. I think these are all pretty but, maybe it’s just me, none of them really make me want to run out and buy them(except maybe liquid gold), I feel like I have something similar in my stash, nothing super unique, but nonetheless very pretty and if you don’t have colors like this, worth a buy.

  2. The first time you posted a review on Tarina Tarantino Sparklicity Pure Nude I had to get it. It looked common in the description but in the jar and on the lids it was *ethereal* effortlessly glam but chic. I’ need New Year’s eve now, Thank you!

  3. Ohhh, they are gorgeous. I think it will cost me for the shipment to my country…

  4. Utopia looked so pretty on the website swatch, it’s a bit disappointing to see how weirdly it applies over Pixie Epoxy. I wonder if it’d do better wet because of the chunky texture?

    1. Mai at Portrait of Mai I think it would do better wet. It was hard to get it to look right in any of the photos. It was the one with the chunkiest texture. I assumed it would have a ton of fallout, which is why I grabbed PE.

  5. Omg … birthday wish, insomnia, liquid gold, new years eve, after glow, enchanted and sweet dreams… amazing

  6. paparazzi, prince charming, new yorks eve, sweet dreams, birthday wish & enchanted……

  7. the liquid gold looks exactly like Glamour Doll Eye’s Trophy Wife.

  8. Most of these look gorgeous! I’d definitely be willing to check them out.

  9. WOW! Gorgeous shades and so affordable! Great post and swatches, thank you 🙂

  10. They all seem amazing !!! I just have to learn how to apply these stuff !.!!!!

  11. Sweet Dreams looks like something I would enjoy using. I have GOT to pick up something from MUG this year. I’ve been wanting to try her shadows since they came out, but I still haven’t picked any up. Thanks for the review!

  12. I haven’t tried this brand but I am looking forward on purchasing Afterglow, Birthday wish and Enchanted.
