NARS Valhalla and Porto Venere Spring 2015

NARS Valhalla and Porto Venere Spring 2015

Today I’ve got some lovely shades – NARS Valhalla and Porto Venere – from Spring 2015 to show you. I’ve also snuck in 2 of the Laced with Edge Hardwired shades – Canberra and Gabon. NARS Spring 2015 is all about nudes, but I needed some color in here.

NARS Valhalla and Porto Venere Spring 2015

The piece I’m most excited over is Porto Venere eye paint. I’ve been dying for a light matte eye paint that I can use to brighten the lower water line. When my allergies are excessively bad, the only eyeliner that I can use (and not have come off on my contacts) is the NARS Eye Paint, but I don’t always want black on my lower waterline. So this is a welcome addition to my trove of eye paints. (See my Eye Paints here)

NARS Valhalla and Porto Venere Spring 2015

I wanted Valhalla merely for the name (Vikings! Atticus!) and I think it’s perfect as an all over eye color or as an inner lid color to help brighten the eyes.

Gabon would make a great crease color or an unusual smoky eye.

I think Canberra would actually be perfect as the outer lid and crease color of a look like my Smoky Teal Watercolor look.

I can certainly see people using Porto Venere as a cruelty free replacement for MAC Bare Study or Painterly (I was always a fan of Bare Study). It can be used as an eyeshadow base, too, though I like it for the waterline, as mentioned above.

The NARS Spring 2015 Color Collection (I think color is really a misnomer here) features Tilda Swinton (who is awesome and I loved her in the movie Orlando) and nude colors done François Nars’ way – a nude scene that is daring, baring, anything but neutral.

In addition to Valhalla and Porto Venere, the collection also contains Reckless (sheer pink shimmer blush), Liguria (nude caramel lipstick), St Paul de Vence (Shimmering nectarine / Chestnut LE duo eyeshadow), Guyane (seashell pink gloss), Vent Sale (silver highlight LE gloss).

I personally don’t think the rest of the nude shades would work on me, but that’s because I feel like I look like I’m washed out in a lot of those tones. I do think that Valhalla and Porto Venere should be wearable on a variety of skintones. Porto Venere is definitely my favorite though. I love the Eye Paints and I want them in every color of the rainbow!

The NARS Spring 2015 is available now.

  1. The Nars Valhalla is quite lovely looking and I do adore the name as I find Norse mythology fascinating. I just may have to pick this one up!

  2. Great post! I knew that you’d add some fun color in here, when I saw this collection I thought to myself that you would think it was pretty nude! Those Hardwired shades are a perfect addition! Love your suggestions about using the Porto Venere for the waterline. I am the same way, I can’t do any shimmer on the waterline, especially with contacts! I love this collection as I’m a nude lover, these nudes are a lot fresher than some other “nude collections” And I think the Porto Venere would be gorgeous if you were doing a cat eye and you really wanted that clean look don’t you think? 🙂 I think the Vent Glace lipgloss would be pretty in the middle of the lip, the other lipgloss in the collection pretty with a super smoky eye, NARS is the only lipgloss I can do, I’m not a lipgloss person!

    1. If you try anything I would try the Valhalla Blush, NARS blushes are amazing. Anything from NARS will be wonderful quality.

    1. yes! I totally agree, I think this would be much prettier than white! And I like using a matte on the waterline anyway so this is perfect.

  3. Those Canberra and Gabon colours are sensational. I think a lot people with fair complexions feel/look washed out with a bunch of nudes/neutrals on. When I have worn them, my students at school (I teach primary) ask me if I am feeling alright…. I need colour. Those colours are gorgeous. You would use them forever.

  4. I’m a huge fan of eye paints and need to try out NARS for them. Valhalla and Canberra are going on my wishlist now as well!

  5. Valhalla looks like it might be similar to MAC Expensive Pink. Very pretty. I’m like you, though, in that I need a bit of real colour or I look a bit dead!

  6. These are gorgeous shades. Not a great fan of nudes but it’s nice to have ’em if I want to break up the monotony of brights

  7. I just went back and read your NARS Eye Paint review, and I was happy to see there were several matte shades plus the shimmer definitely are not over the top for me. I hope that the Porto Venere is a sign that there will be more lighter shades added to the collection. I’m off to check out the website. Wish there were so pricey, but now I know what I’ll be buying next time I have a Sephora coupon or sale.

  8. OMG OMG OMG these are so gorgeous that I’m losing my mind! I really need Gabon, and your swatches are absolutely drool-worthy, Courtney! The last thing that I need is another eyeshadow, but Gabon will be mine!!!!!!!!!!!!
