Master Bathroom Before and After

Valspar Peacock Blue and Ikea Bathroom

I’m excited to finally be able to share my master bathroom before and after with you. It took longer than I anticipated, mostly due to time constraints with Ray’s schedule. Ray, Dave, Ray’s Mom and I all worked to transform this room. You can see what we did to my living room with Valspar Rushing Stream here.

Master Bathroom Before and After

Two Sinks No Storage

Here is my old bathroom for you. 2 single sinks, one on each wall. No real storage. This drove me crazy! Plus, why would you have a master bathroom without a double master sink? This makes no sense!

Master Bathroom Before and After

Let me describe the ‘before’ to you in a little more detail. The walls were baby poop gold. This was not a happy color to me. The room felt dull and lifeless. There were the 2 single sinks – one on each wall.  You can see the pipes where the sinks used to be in the picture on the left. The final sink was installed on the same wall that the ladder is leaning against.

To start, we removed both sinks. It was very difficult to get the sinks off because of how they were hung on the walls. They had 1 side with a very long molly screw that was nearly impossible to get to because of how it was behind the porcelain. The fact that we were able to remove the old sinks without damaging them was shocking to me.

We taped off everything and painted. I chose Valspar Pantone Peacock Blue, which is a deeper color than Valspar Rushing Stream. You can see the two colors painted side by side in the before picture.

I can’t believe how much brighter and well lit the room looks with the new paint color. It feels like it’s a completely new room.

We had to have a plumber come and cut into the wall on the left and cut off the pipes in the wall and cap them. He also had to finish the double sink for us because Lowe’s could not sell us the right part to connect the bottom of the sink drain to the outage drain in the wall. Lowe’s was so frustrating. Going there twice and being unable to find people who could sell us the right parts, even with pictures and measurements drove me crazy.

We went to ikea to purchase everything else we needed for the remodel.

  • Godmorgon – sink cabinet with 4 drawers (55″, high gloss grey)
  • Godmorgon – 3 legs to put under the sink cabinet
  • Godmorgon – 1 door wall cabinet (grey, 2 of these; the second one isn’t up yet but I think I’ll put it above the toilet)
  • Godmorgon – mirror cabinet with 2 doors (2 of these)
  • Odensvik – double sink (55″)
  • Lundskar – 2 black bath faucet fixtures.

Look at the new double sink and vanity! I love it! The high gloss dark grey looks so amazing with the Peacock Blue paint. I also love how crisp the black sink fixtures look against the white sink and blue wall.

Double SinkThat’s my Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin soap, along with my super cute little bats, from Bath and Body Works. The sinks have amazingly high pressure, which is a nice change compared to what they used to be.

Blow Dryer Stand

I did end up getting Ray to install the blow dryer stand on the wall. You can also see the Clarisonic Mia that he loves. He uses the Clarisonic Mia while I use the Foreo Luna.

We still need to repaint all of the trim white to freshen it up.

Hair Dye Drawer

The top left drawer under the sink is now home to my hair dye, headbands, hair bows, hair clips and some other random bits and bobs.

Bottom Left Drawer

I actually have no idea what all I will put into my bottom left drawer. Tampons and pads are on the left, along with a backup skincare brush. On the right I have body creme, Bath n Body Works Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin shower gel, body scrub, a loofah, and mints. The middle section is empty.

Top Right Drawer

The top right drawer has ALL THE BRUSHES and combs, lint brush, flat iron and mirror.

Bottom Right

The bottom right drawer is over half empty. I have my Laila bonnet blow dryer, the cord for the foreo luna and something else (not sure what it is).

Mirror Cabinet

The leftside double mirror cabinet has a ton of skincare and contact stuff. I’ve got 2 big bottles and 2 little bottles of the stuff I use to clean my contacts. I’ve got 4 big bottles and 2 little bottles of the saline solution that I use. I’ve got my makeup remover and cotton pads, anti-aging skincare, SPF products, antiperspirant, toothpaste, lip scrub and dental picks for flossing.

Right Mirror Cabinet

The second double door mirror cabinet doesn’t have too much in it. You can see Ray’s Paula’s Choice for Men, a Josie Maran SPF, Supergoop SPF, Beautisol self-tanner, mouthwash, tiger balm, tooth paste, guy antiperspirant, etc.

Hair Cabinet

The last cabinet is filled with mine and Ray’s hair stuff. It’s less than half full, too.

There are still things that I want to do to the master bathroom, like remove the icky pink flower tile and replace it with something I’d like better. Also, the shower drives me crazy because it has a glass door and a glass window and since we have hard water, they are constantly in need of cleaning. So annoying. Plus, the shower tile is a rosy pink. It’s definitely not the color I would choose.

But, one thing at a time. I think next we’ll be painting the master bedroom.

Have you made any changes to your home lately? What have you done? Or what do you want to do?

  1. I love the new color – min bathroom is blue now too! 🙂 The next few projects on our DIY house to-do list are an extention to our current deck, a budget friendly basement bathroom update, and then a bathroom makeover, including new tile for the shower and the floor. Should be fun smashing stuff!!

  2. Nicely done! I think that when living with a man, double sinks are a great thing to have!

  3. I have some serious bathtub envy!

Several months ago, my partner and I purged items and sold furniture in prep for moving house. Sadly, the inspection was a bust, so we passed on the house. We’ve been living without a dining room set, bookcases, and other items for months — I love it.

  4. Baby poop gold – that made me crack up. It looks amazing! Hey, how does Ray like the PC for men line?

  5. I love it. It would make me very cheerful in the morning and tranquil during a bath since I would feel like I’m in the ocean. I love the organization and stuff, awesome job.

  6. This looks great! I’m glad you were able to save space with one wall of sinks. We have one sink and an L-shaped counter that has a vanity in front of a window. I’d rather take out the entire cabinet/counter unit and have one wall with two sinks as you’ve done. So much more room!

  7. wow such an amazing makeover!! Love the bright blue teal walls and dark grey cabinets – so jelly! And all that storage space must be divine!

  8. We are in the house buying process and are planning to repaint the entire thing before we move in. I love your house posts!

  9. I like the color you chose, reminds me of a spa. The double sink is gorgeous too. And OMG w/ all the skincare products 🙂

  10. Great transformation! My house is so small, I’m not sure that doing anything other than painting would create much of a difference. Who knows, maybe I’ll get inspired to change some fixtures!

  11. I spy many of my favorites on those shelves (yay for Supergoop! and living proof); and wow, this color is just glorious! You guys did a fantastic job!

  12. I kinda like the before color but that blue is gooooorgeous and such a perfect shade for a bathroom. Also, love your sink! It’s seeing transformations like these that make me excited about being a future homeowner!

  13. Oh isn’t that the prettiest color! Your white tub/shower look so vibrant. I love the modern cabinetry. Proud of you for tackling that. Come to my house! 🙂

  14. Whw, what a difference! That’s a huge project you guys tackled! That color is really attractive, too. I can’t tell – do you now have two (jack-and-jill) side by side sinks, or one really long large sink?

I love my home, but would like to have the attic converted into livable space. And a real closet in the master bedroom. (And while I’m dreaming, the home moved to a place where I’m not part of an HOA at all. So very very sick of that…)

    1. So glad you like the color! It’s a double sink but all one attached piece. And I hear you on the HOA. Not my favorite either.

  15. Wow, the blue really livens the place up! I love the bright pop of color. I’m in an apt. and my walls are boring beige/tan. I can’t wait until I get my own house and can decorate any color I want like you. Love it!

  16. I couldn’t picture that bold color in there but it looks really nice. Love the sink and cabinets.

  17. What an amazing makeover! I love the color you picked and ALL THE STORAGE!!! Plus that vanity with the double sinks is super fab!

  18. Looks great! I love that colour. By the way, Godmorgon is swedish for good morning (the other names are probably places).

  19. Wow! that’s an amazing difference! I love the color and it’s mixing nicely with the vanity and mirrors 🙂 So organized! Really lovely

  20. A BEAUTIFUL SUMMER COLOR!!! WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!! My husband and I are waiting for the moola and our little fairy to get the things we want done!!!

  21. What a big project, but definitely worth it! I’m amazed at all the storage you’ve got now. As I mentioned in your other post, I love any and all shades of aqua. Beautiful
