This is Essence by itself.

Wearing Essence Multi-Action Black MascaraI think it looks pretty good on my lashes.

Essence and Milani MixedI used Essence mascara first, and then followed up with the Milani mascara.

Layered MascarasI like layering the mascaras.

Milani Total Lash Cover MascaraMilani Total Lash Cover mascara on its own.

Wearing Milani Total Lash Cover MascaraI think the Milani gives pretty good results on its own.

Both of these mascaras are cruelty-free. Both are affordable. Neither irritate my sensitive eyes.

Essence Blackest Black is the darkest mascara that I own. I like to use the Essence mascara first, because I find it the easiest to catch and coat my inner and outer lashes. I then use the Milani Total Lash Cover to brush through all of my lashes.

My requirements for mascara are pretty specific:

  • cruelty-free
  • doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes
  • doesn’t flake off and get trapped under my contacts
  • doesn’t smear if my eyes water
  • deep black color
  • has a brush that allows me to maneuver through my lashes
  • helps to curl my lashes
  • gives my lashes volume

I feel like this is a long list of requirements, and these mascaras work together to meet them, though they can meet them on their own. What are your favorite mascaras? Do you have any cruelty-free mascaras to recommend to me?

See what mascaras the rest of the Makeup Wars beauty bloggers love!

Milani sent for consideration. Essence purchased by me. All opinions are my own.
