Kat Von D Innerstellar Palette Video Review and Swatches

Kat Von D Innerstellar Palette Video Review and Swatches

Hi! Today I’ve got the Kat Von D Innerstellar palette video review and swatches for you. Innerstellar is a limited edition palette that Sephora classifies as having ‘unexpected celestial neutrals with matte and shimmer finishes.’ This is a cool-toned palette filled with neutrals and a few hints of pretty purple. And yes, I do like this one better than Chrysalis. In case you didn’t know, Kat Von D just launched a beauty site Kat Von D Beauty. You can follow Kat Von D on Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr. You can check out my Chrysalis review here.

While the Innerstellar palette is the same physical size as the Chrysalis palette, the amount of eyeshadow in the palette is smaller by comparison. The bigger shades are only .08 oz vs. .095 oz found in the Chrysalis. The little shades are only .04 oz vs. 049 oz. A typical full size eyeshadow from Urban Decay is .05 oz.  So the Innerstellar contains less product for the same price as the Chrysalis.

The packaging on this palette is beautiful and it fits the galactic theme. The names are unfortunately not printed on the inside of the palette, though they are on the back. The font chosen for the names is a bit difficult to read, though it’s a pretty font. Speaking of names, the eyeshadow names are pretty cool. Love them!

I really like Gravitron, Astrological, Lunacy, Moonshine, Dios, Darkstar, Lycan and Killing Moon in this palette. Lycan is the perfect sort of base shade for my skintone. Vast, 3am, Night Crawler and Orion are all brown shades that I don’t tend to like on my skintone, as I feel they go muddy on me. Overall I do like the Innerstellar palette better than the Chrysalis, however I feel like this palette is missing a mid-tone purple shade and that we’re awash in 4 shades of brown/taupe that are nearly identical. I would love to see Kat Von D put some bright purples in a palette.

What do you think of the Kat Von D Innerstellar palette?

  1. Just received this pallette yesterday. This is my first Kat Von D product of any kind. I like the appearance of the colors, and the color names–quite creative. I used the shadows today, and I do have to say there is some powder fallout. The colors are blendable though. I will continue to experiment with the different combinations.

  2. Pretty, and great swatches on your part. I don’t know if it was inspired by the movie Interstellar (which I loved), but it reminds me of the movie. I agree with you about the browns, though. They are really similar. I think Rachel Runyan is right… if they had more cool-toned finishes, that made them appear more space-like, it would be better.

  3. I really like the purples, but those four medium browns are too similar. I wish a couple of them had a really cool finishes, a purplish brown or colored shimmer. Something to make them stand out from each other. That with the fact that I don’t wear a lot of gray makes this something I wouldn’t rush to get. Maybe on a really good sale or something.

  4. I am surprised at how much I like this palette. From the pictures I have seen and the one YouTube review I watched, I wasn’t that crazy about it. But your swatches and review have shown me at perhaps the person doing that other review… Didn’t do such a hot job. Now I kind of want this. Even if the name is driving me insane. lol

  5. I just got mine and am begging for sun for photos. I love seeing your swatches, I am excited to use this.

    1. The 4 browns reminded me of the Givenchy quads where they would have 1 shade of color with 4 different finishes. I think I had Givenchy Or Céleste (a gold one).
