Holiday Makeup Tutorial

Happy Monday! I’m back from Indiana. I’ve got an affordable Holiday Makeup Tutorial to share with you. I used mostly Colour Pop eyeshadows for this coppery burgundy look. I also included multiple lip looks with it so you can see it with a range of lip colors. Three of the lip options are super affordable.

PR + purchased by me.

Almost all Colour Pop products are vegan. Of the ones I used today, these are not vegan – Porter, JIC, Tang, and Paradox. They constantly update their FAQ page with their list of non-vegan products.

  1. Apply your base shade with a fluffy brush. I used UD’s Walk of Shame. You should use whatever matches you best.
  2. Use a pencil brush to apply Colour Pop School Bus to the outer upper and lower lash line, slightly winging it out.
  3. With a fluffy brush, apply Colour Pop Tang as your transition shade to the crease / hood and lower lid.
  4. With a small fluffy detail brush blend Colour Pop Porter onto the outer 1/2 of the crease and lower lid, then onto the corner of the outer lid.
  5. Use a flat lid brush to place Colour Pop Muse onto the center of the lid.
  6. Pat Colour Pop Friendship File on the inner lid and inner lower lid with an accent brush.
  7. Line the upper lash line and outer lower lash line, then wing it out. I used Milani Supreme Kohl Kajal Eyeliner in Blackest Black. Use a nude eyeliner on the waterline like Colour Pop HoneyDude.
  8. Highlight under the outer brow and at the inner corner with Colour Pop Over the Moon. Finish with your favorite mascara or false lashes.

  • Muse – metallic rosy copper
  • Tang – dusty mauve matte
  • Porter – warm burgundy red satin
  • Paradox – cool burgundy red satin
  • School Buss – deep navy blue satin
  • Friendship File – metallic peachy beige
  • Over the Moon – iridescent pink highlight

I think this look is one that you could recreate with either the Anastasia Beverly Hills Modern Renaissance palette (permanent) or the Kat Von D MetalMatte palette (LE) + a red eyeshadow. You could also try this with the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette – use Strange as the base shade, Limit as the Transition, Liar for the middle of the lid and Dust at the inner lid. You’d still need a red (maybe Sugarpill Love+) shade. You could use Blackheart in the place of the deep navy blue. The new Smashbox Ablaze palette would work for this as well.

Colour Pop recommends using fingers to apply most of their eyeshadows. I have problems with this for 2 reasons – 1. my long nails get in the way of me doing that. 2. I have small lids. So I use vegan synthetic brushes. Urban Decay, Makeup Geek, Real Techniques, Sigma, or ecoTools brushes should work just fine.

For this look I applied Colour Pop Paradox first, then Porter, because Paradox was a brighter red burgundy than I expected. You can skip Paradox and just use Porter, or you can layer the two to add depth. I prefer the darker shade Porter. I especially like how the dark navy shade School Bus worked with the burgundy colors and the eyeliner pencil.

Tang has become one of my favorite transitional shades. It’s sort of a pinky mauve taupe color, similar to Anastasia Beverly Hills Buon Fresco,  Makeup Geek Petal Pusher, or Urban Decay Laced. This sort of color is an easy transitional shade on my skintone and works with a variety of eyeshadow looks.

Muse is super gorgeous! I love it paired with Friendship File. The copper and peachy beige work really well together. They’re very eye brightening shades.

Which lip look do you prefer?

  1. These cranberry/coppery shades look so gorgeous on you, and absolutely LOVE how you created the bold liner look with the deep navy-I really love the technique, so beautiful-and the shades you chose! They are some of my favorite shades too, and I really love using a pinky nude beige as a base or transition-thank you for doing the brush tutorial as well, so helpful! I just got some new ones so I can match them:) And it’s such a great tutorial because these are shades that can be found in a lot of palettes, like the ones you listed, or singles from MUG, ABH-I definitely want to check out some of their singles sometime(right now I’m on a little bit of a shadow no buy for a bit LOL) I’m looking forward to trying this using the KVD MetalMatte for sure and with the Natasha Denona Star Palette. I don’t do a lot of finger application either-except if I’m going to pat on a pigment or sparkly shade(that ND palette has some textured shades) It really works so well with a variety of the lip shades-all beautiful picks-the Honey mixed with the JLC I really like, I love the Velvet Lip Glide in Bound(that was one of the shades I wanted, yay, love it!) I really love Nurse, your skintone really works well with it, and it’s so pretty with the look! I For evening, or just for a bold look, I love Magnetic, it brings out that deep cranberry, I agree I think pairing it with a pencil would take it to the next level(there’s one shade of NARS Velvet Liner that I’m thinking of, not Anse Soleil, but Anse Soleil is so great all the time! LOL) You might like one of the Huda Beauty shades for some of your richer lipsticks, I bought the Trophy Wife shade that is a rich rosy nude-ish shade, but there are a few more you might like too. You can wear them on their own too! What pencil would you recommend for the Velvet Lip Glide in Bound-from NARS, UD or any other brand?

      1. Oh yes, I’d love to check out one of the Gen Nude lipsticks too, so it would be fun to check out the liner too. I introduced my friend to all the UD Vice shades when we went to Ulta together, and it was nice to see all the UD pencil shades in person ??

  2. I love this look on you. I think I’ll try it on myself since I have similar eyes, it’s just sooooo daunting to try red.

    1. Oh yes, I hear where you’re coming from. It used to be really daunting for me, pure red still is, but when you go for a more cranberry or burgundy style, it’s definitely really wearable. And you can start by just using a bit in the crease, and combining it with some of the transition shades that you have in your stash…Makeup Geek has some great shades if you want to experiment with a shade, their shadows are great and are only $6! I like warm rich shades, but you can try those that you feel comfortable with that you feel match with your skintone. For me, I’m experimenting now with bolder cool shades, since I bought the KVD MetalMatte!

  3. First of all, I love each and every lippie you used in this post and am looking them up now. For Colourpop – I own a TON of their products and love almost all of them. The matte liquid lippies by them aren’t for me, but pretty much all the rest are amazing.

    1. Matte Liquid Lippies can be hard for me, because they can be drying on my lips-the NARS Velvet Glides are a really nice texture, they are more of a softer matte finish. I mostly like to stick with a lipstick if I do mattes, or demi matte, like the UD Comfort Matte texture I really like. I need to try more of the Colour Pop shades, so I’m glad to find some great ones in this post!

    1. Me too-It’s done now, now I definitely need it! lol I just bought the Huda Beauty Lip Contour Pencil in Trophy Wife, it’s a rosy nude, a deeper rosy nude-it will go with a lot of shades that you probably have too! I love everything Velvet from NARS <3

  4. So beautifully done. You really can wear burgundy so well. All the lip choices are gorgeous, but I think I like the NARS the best. I have never tried SugarPill. I’ve gotta look at their sales today. I remember you posted about their holiday discounts a few days ago.
