Sigma Beauty Cor-de-Rosa Palette

Hey friends, today I’m sharing my review of the Sigma Beauty Cor-de-Rosa Palette with you. Sigma is a cruelty-free beauty brand best known for their makeup brushes, but they make some great cosmetics too! The Sigma Beauty Cor-de-Rosa Palette is the best palette they’ve released since the Sigma Beauty Wildflower Eye and Cheek Palette. While Sigma calls this a color of the rose palette, it reads more as a peach palette to my eyes. It has a few pops of red and burgundy, as well as some browns to ground it, but I find it mostly peach. And believe it or not, I find it beautiful!

Sigma sent me the Cor-de-Rosa collection to share with you. All opinions are my own.

Sigma Says
Blossom in beauty with this bouquet of warm matte, shimmer and metallic shades. Inspired by our best-selling Aura Powder Blush, Cor-de-Rosa, this palette epitomizes the beauty, love and joy of roses. Cor-de-Rosa, meaning “color of the rose,” features 14 eyeshadows in buildable, blendable formulas and a dual-ended brush for looks that embody classic elegance.

  • F80 Flat Kabuki™ – Blend liquid + cream products onto the skin
  • F37 Spotlight Duster™ – Apply powder + blend blush or bronzer

  • E38 Diffused Crease™ – Soften + blend harsh color lines

I LOVE the F03 brush, especially with liquid highlighters like the Milani Liquid Strobe Highlighter in After Glow. It’s a must have to me. The F80 is great with foundation. I need to try blush again with the F37. The eye brushes are both excellent, especially the E38.

Sigma Cor-de-Rosa Palette Thoughts

Sigma Cor de Rosa Collection

The Cor-de-Rosa Palette is a gorgeous eyeshadow palette with a lot of peachy hues mixed with reds, bronzes and browns. Belle of the Ball is an excellent warm beige shimmer that I like to use at the inner lid. Sunsprite is a pretty metallic gold. Cor-de-Rosa is a pretty soft warm peachy rose matte. Veranda is a warm cream matte. Apricot is a yellow peach matte. Hybrid is a peachy orange matte. Damask is a soft red matte. Dark Night is a metallic burgundy. Shakespeare is a deep red burgundy matte. High Society is a metallic peachy bronze. Campfire is a metallic sandy bronze. Medallion is a brown with peach undertone matte. Summer Song is a burnt orange with brown undertone matte. Bare Root is a deep cool toned brown matte.

The dual ended brush that comes with the palette is the same as the 2 individual eye brushes that come with the Iconic Brush Set.

The eyeshadow formula itself is easy to work with. It lasts all day on primer for me. It doesn’t kick up too much dust or have a ton of fallout. The shimmers are spectacular. The mattes are great to work with.

Overall, I love the mix of hues. You can create work safe looks (does anyone really have to worry about this right now?) as well as sultry date night looks or fun looks effortlessly with these shades. I could create complete looks with this palette with no issue and no need to grab a separate highlighter or deeper definer shade.

What do you think of this peachy rose palette, the Sigma Cor-de-Rosa? Do you like the collection? Let me know!

Keto Gluten Free Blueberry Muffins Recipe

Keto Gluten Free Blueberry Muffins Recipe

Hey friends, happy Sunday! Today I decided to make and share my Keto Gluten Free Blueberry Muffins Recipe with you. Since Dave has to eat gluten free, and we both stick to low carb / keto, I knew I needed to take an old favorite and revamp it for us. We love easy low carb breakfasts and these keto muffins fit the bill.

I didn’t have baking powder on hand, so I used baking soda instead. I personally prefer to use monkfruit sweetener, because I think it tastes the most like ‘real sugar’ when you use it for low carb baking. However, I know that some people prefer Stevia, Erythritol, or other keto friendly sugars. Most people prefer almond milk, but I love the extra creaminess of cashew milk, so I used that instead.

I love my silicone muffin tray for making keto muffins. It’s super easy to pop the muffins out, the muffins don’t stick, and you don’t have to use paper liners. I do like to put the silicone tray on top of a metal baking tray for stability and ease when pulling it out of the oven.

While blueberries are my favorite low carb keto friendly fruit, you could do this with your favorite berry if you don’t like blueberries. This is a really good keto muffins base for keto recipes for breakfast.

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cup Blanched Almond Flour
  • 1/2 cup Monkfruit
  • 3/8 tsp Baking Soda (or you can use baking powder)
  • 1/4 tsp Sea salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 3 Large Eggs
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1/3 cup Coconut Oil (measure this solid, then melt it in the microwave to make it liquidy)
  • 1/3 cup Cashew Milk (you can use Almond Milk or another milk you love)
  • 3/4 cup Fresh Blueberries

Baking Instructions for Keto Gluten Free Blueberry Muffin

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (about 177 degrees C).
  2. Use a silicone muffin tray. Or you can use a regular muffin tin and line the inside with paper.
  3. In a large bowl, combine together the almond flower, baking soda, sea salt, and monkfruit.
  4. Mix the eggs, cashew milk, coconut oil and vanilla extract into the large bowl.
  5. Fold in most of the blueberries with a silicone spatula. The batter will be on the thick side. Save a few to top the muffins.
  6. Distribute the batter into the silicone muffin tray. Top the muffins with the remaining blueberries.
  7. Bake for 24-30 minutes. The top will be golden brown. When you insert a toothpick and it comes out clean, you know they’re done. I have a convection oven and mine needed to bake for 30 minutes.

After I have the muffin batter divided into the 12 cups, I take the few blueberries I saved to put 3-4 on top of the batter before I bake it.

As you can see, these keto muffins have a light golden brown top.

Black Moon Harvest Look Tutorial

Black Moon Harvest Look Tutorial

Hey friends, happy Sunday! I wanted to share my Black Moon Harvest Look Tutorial with you. I’ve been craving Fall, so I put together this fun look focusing on orange. I don’t often wear orange so I was trying to figure out how to make it look pretty on my eyes.

Black Moon Harvest Look

Sigma Cor-de-Rosa Look

Black Moon Harvest Look Black Moon Harvest Look Black Moon Harvest Look

I am missing my lash lifts like crazy. My lashes will NOT hold a curl for me, no matter what I do. My lashes are long but you couldn’t tell that due to how my hooded eyes seem to hide them.

Black Moon Harvest Look Tutorial

  1. I primed my eyes with Urban Decay Sin Primer and set it with Cozzette C1 Powder.
  2. With a fluffy brush I applied Sugarpill Side Eye as a transition and crease shade, as well as along the lower lid and outer corner of the lid.
  3. I applied Sugarpill Elevate to the inner lid and Sugarpill Retrograde to the middle lid and did the same thing on the lower lid.
  4. I layered Sigma Belle of the Ball at the inner lid.
  5. With a damp brush I applied Sigma Shakespeare to the outer lid and outer lower lash line.
  6. Using another damp brush I applied Black Moon Harvest to the middle of the lid and lower lid.
  7. I used a tiny fluffy brush to deepen the outer corner with Black Moon Black.
  8. With a liner brush, I applied Danessa Myricks Blackout as liner to the upper lash line and winged it out, as well as at the outer lower lash line.
  9. Then I used an angled brush to apply Black Moon Black on top of Danessa Myricks Blackout to slightly smoke the liner.
  10. I used a bit of Cozzette C1 Powder to blend out the edges of Sugarpill Side Eye & lined the lower waterline with LA Girl Super Bright pencil.
  11. Finally, with a tiny brush, I applied a bit of Milani Strobe Light Liquid in After Glow under the brows to highlight.
  12. I finished my lashes with Eyeko Lash Alert Mascara.

To Create My Face

Milani Porcelain Foundation Stick, Green Goddess Primer, Rosa Romatica Blush, and After Glow Liquid Strobe Light

Sigma Cor-de-Rosa Look

  1. I applied Milani Green Goddess Face Primer and let that sink in for about 5 minutes.
  2. With my Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush, I buffed the Milani Foundation Stick in Porcelain into my skin.
  3. Using the Sigma F03 Brush, I blended Milani Strobe Light Liquid in After Glow in a C shape around my eye and dusted a bit on the tip of my nose and at the center of my forehead.
  4. I used a small blush brush to apply Milani Rosa Romantica to sculpt my cheeks.
  5. I used a tiny bit of Cozzette C1 Powder to set under my eyes.

Milani Cosmetics makes my cruelty-free favorite drugstore face primer, favorite drugstore foundation, favorite drugstore blush, and favorite drugstore liquid highlighter. In fact, Milani Strobe Light Liquid in After Glow is the best liquid highlighter I’ve ever found for my fair skin tone. It’s gorgeous!

To Create My Lips

Melt Lips Melt Lips

  1. I outlined my lips and filled them in with Melt Santeria pencil.
  2. I applied a thin layer of Melt Cherried lipstick to my lips.
  3. Using my ring finger, I dabbed a bit of Melt Mary Jane at the center of my lips.

Melt Cosmetics currently makes my favorite lip pencils. They make almost every essential color in my collection. I also adore my bullet lipsticks from them, especially Cherried and Mary Jane. They’re a great combo. I love the multidimensional finish of Mary Jane and Mota.

I’ve been so impressed with everything I’ve tried from Milani over the past year or two. I’m so glad they FINALLY understood how to make a fair foundation to match a skin tone like mine. I had just about given up on that ever happening after I kept buying their ‘lightest shade’ which was still dreadfully orange.

I love the way that Milani Strobe Light Liquid in After Glow blends seamlessly into my skin. If only it came in an ethereal blue-violet and incandescent green.

What do you think of the Black Moon Harvest Look Tutorial that I put together? Do you like peach, orange, red and black mixed to create a Fall inspired look? What shades are you wearing right now?

PUR Trolls World Tour Techno Palette

Hey friends, I wanted to share my swatches of the PUR Trolls World Tour Techno Palette with you. This is my favorite PUR eyeshadow palette and the first one I’ve really enjoyed. It’s a cute little edit of hues, perfect for travel. For those of you who don’t know, PUR is a cruelty-free beauty brand. Just so you know, I did these swatches at the same time I swatched the BareMinerals Gen Nude Floral Utopia Palette, so you will see it in here.

  • Mermaid Tails – midnight blue with blue sparkles
  • Drop the Beat – metallic olive gold
  • Underwater Harmony – bright turquoise blue shimmer
  • Peace & Love – teal green matte
  • It’s Electric! – lime green matte
  • King Trollex – deep brown matte

I picked up the Trolls World Tour Techno Palette on a whim because I hadn’t ever tried anything colorful from PUR that I could recall. I was pleased and impressed with the formula, especially for the price!

It’s very easy to come up with color combos with the Trolls World Tour Techno Palette. I really like using It’s Electric! as a fun pop at the inner corner. I also love how It’s Electric! looks when applied to the lid and crease, with Drop the Beat layered on top. Underwater Harmony is lovely layered on top of Peace & Love. Mermaid Tails is gorgeous as a liner, layered on top of a black pencil.

Because I was so impressed with the Trolls World Tour Techno Palette, I wanted to buy the PUR x RBK palette, but the site unfortunately never worked when I tried to buy it. I also couldn’t snag it from Ulta, even though I had signed up to be notified by email when it came out. So I’m definitely disappointed I couldn’t snag that palette.

Anyway, if you’ve tried PUR before, what’s your favorite product by them? What do you think of this cute little palette?

BareMinerals Gen Nude Floral Utopia Palette

BareMinerals Gen Nude Floral Utopia Palette

I just wanted to share my BareMinerals Gen Nude Floral Utopia Palette swatches and thoughts with you. Just so you know, I swatched this palette at the same time that I swatched the PUR Trolls World Tour Techno Palette. BareMinerals is a cruelty-free beauty brand that’s probably best known for their mineral makeup. However, I’m a huge fan of their Gen Nude line in general.

Price
$29

Where to Buy
BareMineralsUlta

The BareMinerals Gen Nude Floral Utopia collection launched in 2019, if I remember correctly. I stumbled upon it this year when I bought both of the Gen Nude Floral Utopia Highlighter Sticks in Indigo Girl (pale iridescent pink) and Orange Blossom (coral peach).  You know I’m obsessed with stick makeup. I love to use these as highlighters and blush toppers. You can currently pick these up in a highlighter set for $20. I also bought the Gen Nude Floral Utopia I’m Freesia blush, a beautiful cool pink shade. The Gen Nude blush formula is wonderful. It applies smoothly and lasts all day.

Swatches from top to bottom:

  • daisy & confused – a golden peach matte
  • sweet cherry blossom – a golden pink shimmer
  • stay golden poppy – a warm pink shimmer
  • red red roses – a cool muted red matte
  • dusty violet – a metallic smoky purple taupe
  • dark dahlia – a deep plum brown matte

I adore the color story of the BareMinerals Gen Nude Floral Utopia Palette. It’s a beautiful set of shades that are easy to wear together. You can create a quick halo eye with Dusty Violet layered on top of Dark Dahlia. Sweet Cherry Blossom looks amazing on the lid with Red Red Roses in the crease. Daisy & Confused is nice as a transition or for blending out other shades. Stay Golden Poppy is pretty in the middle of the lid with Daisy & Confused at the inner lid and Red Red Roses at the outer lid.

I do wish the eyeshadow formula had a bit more pigment, though it is quite buildable. The only shade I’m really not into is Dark Dahlia. I think these colors compliment my skin tone and eye color nicely.

If you’re looking to add these sorts of hues to your collection, it looks like most, if not all of BareMinerals Gen Nude Floral Utopia is on sale.

Green Halo Eye Tutorial

Hey friends, happy Caturday! Today I’m sharing my green halo eye tutorial with you. I was feeling nostalgic for the 90s/early 2000s goth scene, so I put on one of my favorite shirts and a shiny pair of goggles to complete this look.

Some products purchased by me. Some products sent for consideration. All opinions are my own.

  1. I applied Urban Decay Eden eyeshadow primer and set it with a light dusting of Cozzette Beauty Essential Powder in C1.
  2. I used Natasha Denona Lodge (from the Mini Gold palette) as a transition color through the crease.
  3. I blended Makeup Geek Mint to Be on top of Lodge to add more of a soft green hue to the transition shade.
  4. I used Melt Space Queen at the inner V, outer V, and lower lash line.
  5. I applied a tiny bit of Melt Mean Green to the edges of Space Queen on the mobile lid.
  6. I layered Fyrinnae Flawless on the lower lashline on top of Space Queen.
  7. With a damp brush I applied JD Glow Prismatic to the center of the lid and the center of the lower lid.
  8. I lined the upper lashline with Smashbox Fishnet pencil and the lower lashline with Melt 420 pencil.
  9. I brushed my brows upwards and then applied Elizabeth Mott Queen of the Fill Black Brow Gel.
  10. I curled my lashes and then applied Eyeko Lash Alert Mascara. I REALLY miss my lash lifts.

  3. I used Urban Decay Concealer in 10NN under my eyes, which unfortunately made me look a little crepey.
  4. With a powder brush, I dusted a light layer of Fenty Pro Filt’r Powder in Lavender all over my face.
  5. I dotted Milani Liquid Strobe Light in After Glow on my cheekbones in a C shape around my eyes and blended them with a Sigma highlighter brush and my finger.
  6. I sculpted my cheeks with theBalm Balm Beach blush.

The new Makeup Geek soft color eyeshadow collection is awesome! It’s made up of Mint to Be, Code Blue, Lavender Dreams (wish this was more purple than pink), Pretty in Pink, Cotton Candy, Bellini and Peach Smoothie. These shades are all excellent transition colors for my fair skin tone. I will try to have looks and a review up soon for all the new shades. I love the formula’s blendability.

I’ve been experimenting with the other concealers in my collection. I’m not happy with how crepey my under eyes look with the Urban Decay concealer. I feel like it emphasized all the fine lines in my eye area to the extreme. I still prefer my Milk Makeup concealer.

The Milani Green Goddess primer is nice so far, but I don’t know how well it works for longevity. It does make my foundation apply smoothly.

I’m still hooked on green makeup looks. Do you like the green halo eye tutorial? Green makeup is so much fun and I’ve got so many great greens to work with. What is your makeup color obsession right now? Does it ever change? I promise a purple look soon!

I've Changed My Mind

I’ve Changed My Mind

I’ve changed my mind About PETA & Cruelty-Free Beauty. When I’m presented with new information (facts), and it contradicts a belief I held in the past, I change my mind. It’s what we should do as adults. Many people will avoid admitting they were wrong, but I think it shows growth to admit you were wrong and you’ve changed you mind based on new information. So today I’m talking about PETA, that I think I actually trust them, and which brands are truly cruelty-free. I now believe most, if not all, of the brands on PETA’s list are cruelty-free. Obviously, I still prefer Leaping Bunny, but with the changes that have happened in China over the past few years, I feel that more brands are cruelty-free.

To Be Clear, I support PETA’s Beauty Without Bunnies program, not all of PETA or their initiatives, which I do not agree with. I do not agree with their agendas against pitbulls, the mass euthanizing of animals, or that we should not have pets. I’m a responsible pet owner who always gets my pets spayed / neutered, and have never had my animals accidentally get pregnant.

I’ve Changed My Mind Video

Watch the Video on YouTube for Closed Captioning in English and Spanish.

Cruelty-Free Resources

As you know, Jen from My Beauty Bunny is one of my besties. She has a call scheduled today with PETA to try to clear up some misconceptions with them. Jen also wrote a great article about animal testing bans in the USA. She also wrote about how she is adding First Aid Beauty, Physicians Formula, Wet n’ Wild and More to her cruelty free list.

Changing Your Mind

I believe it’s critical to our lives to be willing to be flexible and change our minds when presented with new information instead of doubling down on a long held belief. It’s especially important if you are presented with new facts to be able to think about them critically and adjust your beliefs accordingly. With all of the new information presented to me about animal testing in China, how it is about as likely in China as it now is in the USA, I’ve changed my mind. I consider PETA’s cruelty-free list to be accurate for most, if not all brands. And that’s a huge change from my beliefs, especially from when I first went cruelty-free in 2012.

I’m not perfect. I don’t claim to be. I’ve grown a lot over the past decade, which is a good thing! It’s important to keep growing, keep learning, and change your mind when presented with new information.

So tell me, what’s something you’ve changed your mind about recently? What do you think about PETA?

Do I Have Hooded Eyes?

Do I Have Hooded Eyes?

I get asked this question from time to time, do I have hooded eyes? People know that I have them, so they want me to tell them whether or not they also have them. On the chart above, I have a quick reference for basic eye shapes. There are six basic eye shapes – round eyes, monolid eyes, hooded eyes, downturned eyes, upturned eyes, and almond eyes. There are also a lot of descriptors with eyes like close set eyes, wide set eyes, asymmetrical eyes, asymmetrical hooded eyes, big eyes, small eyes, and deepset eyes.

Do you have a crease? If you answer no to this, then you likely have monolids. If you answer yes, is your crease hidden beneath a curtain of skin? If you answer yes, then congratulations, you have hooded eyes! If you answer yes, draw a horizontal line across your eyes to see if your outer corners pull upwards or downwards. If your eyes turn down, they are downturned, and if they turn up, they are upturned.

Hooded Eyes Video

I added this video component because it includes over 50 different hooded eye shapes from the lovely ladies of the PhyrraNyx Facebook Group. Thank you so much to everyone who included a photo!

What Are Hooded Eyes?

They are eyes that have excess skin from the browbone to the lash line, which hides the crease and mobile eyelids space. If you’re like me, and you’ve struggled for years to follow makeup tutorials on YouTube, magazines or blogs, you might have hooded eyes. Most makeup tutorials are for almond or protruding eyes.

My Hooded Eyes

If you are looking straight ahead into a mirror, does excess skin between your eyebrows and eyelashes obscure your crease? If you are unsure, look at the photo of my eyes above. I have excess skin that hides my crease, thus they are hooded. They’re also a tad deepset and downturned. By deepset I mean that my eyebrow protrudes slightly past my eyeball. By downturned I mean the outer corner of my eye shape is pulled down by excess skin. In my case, the excess curtain of skin, especially at the outer 3/4 of my eyelid, is hidden by my hooded eyes.

Do I Have Hooded Eyes?

do i have deep set

For the image above I drew a straight horizontal line across my pupils to determine if my outer corners turn up or down. My outer corners turn slightly down. My outer corners are also slightly deepset, which you can see by the way the excess hooded eye skin covers the outer corner of my eyes. If your eyes look like mine, congrats! They are hooded, slightly deepset, and slightly downturned.

Even if they don’t look exactly like mine, your eyes may still be. There are different shapes of hooded eyes. Youtuber Alissa Ashley has hoodies and I think they look quite different from my 42 year old eyes.

The usual giveaway for hoodies is that the mobile lid (the part by the lash line) is partially or fully obscured by excess skin draping over it from the browbone.

Other Ways to Tell You Have Hooded Eyes

Does your eye makeup crease, fade, or wear away during the day? Does your eyeliner smear easily? You could have hooded eyes like me. Because the excess skin rubs together in my eye area every time I blink, my makeup wears away unless I use eyeshadow primer, set with setting powder, and then apply eye makeup. Seriously, it’s gone in 20 minutes or less and then I wonder why I spent an hour doing my makeup, unless I wear primer.

Do I Have Deep Set or Downturned or Hooded Eyes?

How to Tell If You Have Hoodies

do i have deep set or hooded eyes?

This image is a really great visual to show you the difference between Deep Set and Protruding eyes. My mobile eyes are the opposite of protruding. You can tell my eyes are slightly deepset and downturned from the side, as well as hooded, because you can literally see a curtain of skin over the outer half of my eyes.

Celebrities with Hooded Eyes

Some of the most beautiful celebrities in the world have our eyes! Blake Lively, Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Swift, Claudia Schiffer, Kate Hudson, and Emma Stone all have them! I think my eyes look most similar to Kate Hudson or Emma Stone.

This Cat Eyes for Hooded Lids is the best cat eye liner tutorial that I’ve found to date. I wish my hoods were shaped like hers!

For my particular shape, I find that if I create my winged liner from the lower lid first, I end up with the correct angle for my face. It’s quite literally all about working your best angles.

Why do I have Hooded Eyes?

I was born with them. I’ve had them my entire life. Some people are born with them. Other people develop them with age. Other reasons you can have them can be health related, so if you are concerned, talk to your eye doctor.

Do Hooded Eyes Affect Eyesight?

Yes they can affect eyesight. In my 20s I had no issues from my hoods. At 42, I’ve noticed that the hood over the outer part of my eyes is starting to mess with my vision. If you notice things like blurry vision, difficulty reading, loss of peripheral vision, definitely talk to your doctor. Because I’ve had them my entire life, the sag is only getting worse and will interfere with my vision, I will probably have blepharoplasty surgery in my future.

Do Hooded Eyes go Away With Weight Loss?

Because I lost 40 lbs two years ago, I have actually had people ask me if I expected my hoods to go away. The answer is no, because I was born with them. The only way my hoodies will go away is if I change the shape with surgery.

Do Irish Have Hooded Eyes?

The fact that this question has been posed made me laugh a bit because I don’t think any one race has identical eye shapes. So while I’m about 50% Irish (thanks to 23 and me’s ancestry test) and I do have them, I don’t think everyone who is Irish has them.

Do Scandinavians Have Hooded Eyes?

Surprisingly, people also ask do Scandinavians have hooded eyes? Much like my thoughts on the Irish above, I don’t think every Scandinavian has them.

Do Hooded Eyes Make You Look Tired?

The truth is, they can. My eyes definitely did not make me look tired in my 20s but in my 40s I feel like they’re starting to.

Do Hooded Eyes Make You Look Older?

In my opinion, where my eyes are concerned, they can. I often feel like the only tell-tale sign of my age is my eyes.

Do Hooded Eyes Go Away?

If you’re born with them, like me, I sincerely doubt they will ever go away. If you are born with hooded eyes, those are your eyes. If you ended up getting hooded eyes because of your weight and then you lose weight, you may end up with less hooded eyes. However, the only way I know of to make hooded eyes go away permanently is to have blepharoplasty surgery. Surgery isn’t something I would decide to do lightly on a whim, but if it’s something you really want, make sure you do your research.

Can I Change My Hooded Eyes?

I get asked how to change hooded eyes frequently. As I mentioned before, you can take drastic measures and have blepharoplasty surgery to permanently change your eyes. However, there are much less invasive ways to alter your appearance.

eyelid tape vs no tape

Lid correcting strips, such as the ones from Contours RX or other eyelid tape brands on Amazon can truly, dramatically change your appearance. They do take a bit of practice to get used to. I’ve never really been able to get makeup to look right on top of them either, but I love how they change my eye shape. In the photo above I’m wear 7mm lid correcting strips to change the shape of my hooded eyes.

Hooded Eyes Makeup Manual

If you have eyes like I do and you struggle with makeup, my book Hooded Eyes Makeup Manual is for you! I wrote it at the request of my Phyrra Family and published it last year. So many of you asked for a collection of my tutorials in a book, so I included many different step-by-step eye makeup tutorials. I also filled it with all the tips and tricks I’ve learned from my makeup artist friends over the past 12 years, such as Mickey Fitzpatrick, Norah SalazarDanessa Myricks, and James Vincent. As I mention in the book, and on this blog, you can always turn to the web and Youtube to find hooded eye makeup tutorials. I just put a bunch of things together all in one place to make things easy for you.

My Book also has a brush guide to help you find the best brushes for our eye shape and all the tutorials list generic color terms so you can recreate any of the tutorials within it with what you have on hand. You do NOT need to buy the brands I mention in the book unless you want to. You just need to look for similar shapes for brushes and similar hues for makeup. The Book is available in both print and digital format.

So tell me, do you have hooded eyes?

Witchy Nails

Witchy Nails

I created this quick little witchy nails manicure last week! Sometimes it’s hard to beat the simplicity of a good one coat black nail polish and some rose gold holographic nail art stickers. I despise water slide decals, so I usually just use stickers or occasionally I will try stamping for designs.

Sadly there was no sun out when I took photos of my Witchy Nails. This was the best I could do for natural light.

What I Used

It’s really hard to find a true one coat black. A lot of brands claim to be 1 coat but they still look best in two. Holo Taco One Coat Black is truly one coat. Another great option is KBShimmer Eclipse. Aside from those two, I’ve used my hoarded bottles of Cult Nails Nevermore (discontinued, brand went out of business) for years.

These particular decals are really gorgeous but thicker than I expected and you have to bend them with tweezers to get them around the nail. I think next time I use them I will try to encapsulate them in my gel top coat. Still, using decals like these make it easy to create witchy nails in a snap.

As I mentioned above, I despise water slide decals. They’re a pain in the ass to use and they often rip in half, in my experience, when I’ve tried to use them. This is why I gave up on ever using water slide decals and just use stickers. The store that I got these decals from had many great options available and I love the designs. I’m looking for other etsy sellers who sell witchy gothic designs that are stickers, as Wytchcraft is in Australia and currently on vacation.

I’ve been nail obsessed lately! I haven’t worn much other makeup because of being depressed, but I’ve been playing with my nails a lot. I keep practicing to improve my technique with application of Orly Builder in a Bottle and Apres Short Stiletto Nails tips.

If you want to know the easiest way to get witchy nails, just pick up a one coat black nail polish and some cute nail decals. Paint the one coat black on. Paint on a quick dry topcoat. Apply your stickers. Apply a super shiny top coat (like you use for glitters or textured polish) and you’re set!

Baroness X Mermaid Madness Mani

I wanted to share my new Baroness X Mermaid Madness Mani with you. I had one of my nails (my thumb) pop off, so decided I needed to redo all my nails. I shot a video on how I use Orly Builder in a Bottle with my favorite Apres Natural Short Stiletto Tips. I will get that edited and share it with you this week.

This is my fourth full set with the Orly Builder in a Bottle plus Apres Natural Short Stiletto Tips. Check out my step-by-step guide to how I use Orly Builder in a Bottle.

What I Used

I found these Wytchcraft decals to be slightly easier to bend and shape compared to the previous ones I used.

Baroness X Mermaid Madness is a gorgeous light seafoam teal blue base with lots of pretty turquoise shimmer and glitter. It has gold and teal micro glitter with turquoise metallic dots, navy and gold holo sprinkled throughout it. It’s so pretty! It looks so good in two coats. Mermaid Madness reminds me a bit of Deborah Lippman Mermaid Dream.

I Love Hue is a multichrome shifting glitter that shifts from green to blue to purple to magenta and a hint of gold. It looks awesome on top of royal blue, teal blue and black. It’s definitely fun on top of Mermaid Madness.

If you’re looking for new awesome indie nail polish, check out Baroness X! I’m in love with their fluid art nail polishes, along with their regular polish. You can also find their nail polish at the Polish Pickup every month. Baroness X is proudly cruelty-free.

What’s on your nails right now? Have you been spending more time on nails than other types of makeup right now?
