Favorite Cruelty Free and Vegan Brands

Reader request! Today I’m sharing my favorite cruelty free and vegan brands with you. This is a list of current favorites. For a more comprehensive list, see my cruelty free brand list. On my cruelty free brand list I list cruelty free brands, brands with parent companies that are not cruelty free, Leaping Bunny certified brands, grey area brands and non-cruelty free brands.

Favorite Cruelty Free and Vegan Brands

In this video I’m wearing no makeup (aside from Bite Beauty Agave Lip Mask in Champagne and my glasses. It was filmed late at night.

Thursday night before I filmed this video I dyed my hair with Pravana Chromasilk Vivids in Vivid Violet (mixed 50% with Cocoa Pink Argan Therapy Creme in Black Chocolate Raspberries) for the top half of my hair. For the bottom half I used Pravana Chromasilk Vivids in Wild Orchid. I dyed a single lock of hair with Pravana Chromasilk Vivid in Green mixed with a little bit of Ion Color Brilliance in Aqua. I hadn’t bleached my hair or dyed my roots in 10 to 12 weeks, which was pretty impressive.

Like I said in my video, my cruelty free list reflects my beliefs on cruelty free. You have to do what you feel is best for you. By the way, several of you hve emailed me to tell me I should reconsider Lorac as cruelty free considering how brutally honest their email to me was. I’m still thinking about how I feel about Lorac, but I am listening. I always love hearing from you!

What are your favorite cruelty free and vegan brands?

    1. I only said Pravana was cruelty free. I did not claim Pravana was vegan. If you look at Manic Panic, I DID claim MP was vegan. I put it in parenthesis.

  1. Thanks for all of the great recommendations! I went cruelty-free last year and my favorite brands so far are Urban Decay, IT Cosmetics and NYX. (Although I remember reading that NYX got bought by L’Oreal and their CF status was up in the air? Any knowledge about that?) I also like a couple of Tarte products.

    1. Oh, and forgot to add that my favorite hair products are Paul Mitchell! I’ve used them for forever, before I consciously went cruelty-free.

        1. Yes, and I was so happy I didn’t have to switch. 🙂 Thanks for the info about NYX, glad they have stayed cruelty-free.

    2. Nyx is still cruelty free even though their parent company L’Oreal is not.
Urban Decay is cruelty free and Leaping Bunny Certified even though their parent company L’Oreal is not.

  2. I love Cover FX. I just started using their Natural Finish Oil Free Foundation, which gets a bad rap because it says “oilfree” but it is NOT for oily skin. It is best for dry/normal skin. Excellent for rosacea like mine that is dry as well as sensitive. It is satin finish so it is not matte unless set this setting powder.

I also love Urban Decay although their shiny shadows are not the best for older eyelids. Great lipsticks and eyeliners.

As always I adore Paula’s Choice. Their Skin Recovery line is a savior for my skin.

Love when you post about cruelty free lines:)

    Thanks,
    Rebecca

  3. So many great brands here. With al of the technology available to us today there’s no excuse for testing on animals. OCC and Too Faced are two of my faves.

  4. Most of the brands you’ve listed are also one of my top favorites. I LOVE Illamasqua, Urban Decay and INGLOT. These 3 are my TOP 3 😀
BTW Recently I checked an EcoTools set in a local store and it said “Made in China”, which lead me to believe that it is tested on animals? I’ve read that in China they have no laws against animal testing.. But I may be wrong as well.

    1. Products can be made in China but not sold in China and still be cruelty free. Products can be sold exclusively in Hong Kong and be cruely free. EcoTools is cruelty free.

  5. Meow Cosmetics and Fyrinnae are two of my favorite shadow brands. And OCC, I’m obsessed with Lip Tars! Great list.
